It can be, Foinavon, but It also denotes hatred.
Islamaphobia is merely one example of its use in this regard. |

Britain should consider becoming the first democracy to ban religion, indeed outlaw it and close down all churches and mosques, although I would make an exception during the Christmas period as Christmas carols are very beautiful...certainly any party that would introduce this would get my vote.

In view of all the killing Muslims are doing around the world, isn't Islamaphobia ( fear of Islam or Muslims) a natural, even healthy response.

I am always against hatred orioles and am strongly in favour of laws against racism. The right to criticise ideas is enshrined in our culture and has been hard won over centuries. I don't want to see it eroded.
|
|
By:
How can you ban religion our laws, culture and inherent belief in doing the right thing are based on christian tenets.
And even being a devout athiest like myself i still see it as the fibre that holds society together. Multiculturalism/multifaith works nowhere in the world eventually when the levels get to great friction occurs and the shiite hits the fan. |

By:
And what happens then sunni jim?
|

By:
I think that's an interesting point, Flush, but you might find you have your atheist cards cancelled if you keep taking that line!

Too many puns, by the looks of things :)

"intolerant to a religion" that's rich, when we're talking about the most intolerant religion on the planet, by a mile.

Boxingthefox's extensive list is of course very racist and hopefully Milliband will wack him over the head with his feather duster..
I simply cannot believe how far removed Labour are from their core, historic vote. The fact they are due to hold onto countless northern seats among voters who are proud Englishmen/women is truly staggering. Do these people not realise what Labour have become???? I say this with no pleasure or glee at all. Labour used to be proud of Britain..FYI Ed, we don't want Islam here. PostScript (Make A Donation) Our New Blog ! WINSTON CHURCHILL’S COMMENTS ON ISLAM Picture [ Forenote: Sir Winston Churchill has been recognized as one of the greatest men of the late nineteenth and of the twentieth century. He was an extraordinary war leader to whom the Western World must be forever in debt. He was a prophet in his own time as this quotation, written well over 100 years ago, demonstrates.] "How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step, and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it (Islam) has vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.” [ Postnotes: (1) Sir Winston, as an officer of the British Army, served in the Sudan and in the Crimean War; in both instances against the Muslims. These experiences gave him ample opportunity to observe the structure of Islamic society. (2) Churchill’s quotes were taken from the volume: Sir Winston Churchill; “The River War”, first edition, Volume II, pages 248-250, published by Longmans, Green & Company, 1899. (3) If Sir Winston were alive today, it is doubtful that a person in Great Britain criticizing Islam publicly could be arrested, and then fined or jailed, and even more doubtful that any Muslims would be sitting in the English Parliament! ] |

A c&p from a rabid anti-Islam website gives me no pleasure either, Injera.
Churchill was a fine war leader, a great man in that respect, but was not the deepest thinker and his reputation has been considerably burnished since the war. Not for nothing the Tories failed in '45. The fact you post this on the centenary of Gallipoli is a terrible irony. My grandfather served there during the terrible adventure and never allowed Churchill's name to be mentioned in his home. So that opening bold assertion is problematic. As to the (now infamous passage) it was written by an angry Churchill who was pissed off at the Muslim driver of his train back from the Sudan who he felt was not making a sufficient effort to get the train moving after it broke down. The passage was removed from the next edition of the book and has, in any case, been judiciously edited. A section has been removed. 'Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die; but ...' Churchill was many things, but I doubt even his ego would approve of his description as a prophet. |

Apologies Boxing - it was Flush's list and of course I was being flippant.
Orioles - I have no argument with you about Churchill's weaknesses. But I do assert he spoke profoundly about the dangers of Islam. What positives do you believe Islam gives this world? |

Or even more pertinently to the Democratic and Christian country of Great Britain in 2015 ?

A c&p from a rabid anti-Islam website gives me no pleasure either, Injera. What part of the list is untrue? |
|
By:
good question injera.
All I see is this country being very tolerant to a group of people who are the most intolerant in the world. |
|
By:
when they have tipped the balance they will ban the Labour party too
gays are in for it as are anyone who is not a muslim convert or die |
|
By:
the majority of peace loving muslims will follow what their leaders will tell them
|
|
By:
ps labour are simply after votes for a 5 year term
has any party got a long term (say 30 year) plan for UK plc most are out just to get the lecture circuit and book deals sorted and their membership of quangos, companies and the house of lords |
|
By:
when you find out the small (relatively) number who believe in violence then turns out to be millions (as a percentage) don't you just feel nice and safe in Notting Hill land!!??
|

By:
gays are in for it
As will anyone having sex with someone who is not their wife or husband. None of the above will be the concern of forumites of course. ![]() |
|
By:
ps
it is not a religion the geezer who started it all was a warmonger he used islam as a religion to justify his actions it is more a political movement we will all be dead by the time they take over but take over they will have you checked out the demographic |
|
By:
How can you ban islamophobia? Really, I mean quite apart from defining what exactly islamophobia is in order to prove someone is guilty of it all that will happen is that anyone who gets prosecuted will go straight to the EU court who will say that one man's rights can no longer trump another man's rights so both of you go away and learn to get along. The CPS will never EVER secure a conviction for Islamophobia!!Ethically speaking though I think its totally wrong to 'ban' it. Freedom of opinion is a core british value and whilst I hate some of the things you atheists write on these threads, I'd absolutely defend your right to say them! |
|
By:
It has the potential to disappear up its own arse too. If someone said that it is highly unlikely that the Quran was dictated by God.
That's not only an atheistic belief but is also the belief of Sikhs, Hindus, Christians, Jews, and ex-Muslims, etc., then: i) What is being said is true. ii) Appalled Moslems will describe this truth as ‘Islamophobia’. iii) The new law would've made ‘Islamophobia’ illegal. iv) Ed will have made the truth illegal. ![]() |

it would be interesting to hear the "british muslims" views on the persecution of non muslims in muslim countries.
And what are they doing about it, putting pressure on governments or sending charitable donations to those suffering. |
|
By:
It is an indication of how far we have gone and how it is so too late!!!
If a mainstream party is serious about it!!! All far too late. 10 percent of the population by 2050 but don't believe any official figures.(probably a lot more) Especially with our friends coming across the Med at the moment. A million illegals here already for starters (how many are muslim?) Anyway, the demographic is against you (eventually) |
|
By:
What you guys aren't getting is it doesn't matter if it makes no sense or that it will be difficult to prosecute. Put yourself in the minds of the Labour party seeking to instill terror in you. A widely drawn unclear law is all the better to terrorise you to behave how they want you to, just in case. Job done.

I am more worried about Harman still being there with a finger in every PIE!!!

as soon as there is a population of over 25% muslims that's it.
All will vote for whatever political party they create. That's enough to win a general election. in certain seats will be hardly any muslims living. other areas will only require 30% of the population to get the seat. If the turnout is say 80% in a general election, 100% will turn out for the muslim party. The other votes split between tories, labour, lib dems, ukip, gives them the seat. |

Muslim areas will smell

If the turnout is say 80% in a general election, 100% will turn out for the muslim party. You forget we have postal voting now so I've corrected it for you: If the turnout is say 80% in a general election, 120% will turn out for the muslim party. |

By:
sorry eo, you are of course right.
and any skulduggery oe election rigging will have to be swept under the carpet as don't want to be accused of racism. The muslim party will of course win fair and square and will be no problems if people convert. If not then its only fair that non believers pay higher tax and carnt claim any benefits as is often the case in muslim governments. |

Lol. Only Chit Chat could go from a pledge to make religious hatred an aggravated offence to a complete takeover of the country in a few posts!
Although gems like 'Islam TV/BBC' and 'Islamic promoting Guardian' make it all worthwhile :)) |
