Gents.
I am after some advice again from many wise sages on here........
Got this lawn, its full of weeds and dandy lions, bought this weedol stuff(various places said it was the best) and have hand watered this stuff in 15ml per 5 ltr water... *10sqm........its a lot of grass(no thinly veiled I am not Rich!!) anyway it took ages and it does not seem to be working
I have weeded out some of the bigger ones but I am leaving holes everywhere!!!!!
Do you have any advice?

Selective weedkillers take 4 weeks or more to work. When did you apply it?

How long ago did you do this? you often have to wait 10 days before you see much difference . If you have access to a sprayer its better than a watering can.Dont know anything about weedol but SBK brushwood killer is the dogs b***ocks,it kills everything apart from grass.

What you need to do now is put a cup of whiskey in a full watering can. DoneWink

Foinavon is correct!  In addition most selective and/or systemic weedkiller rely on the plant being in active growth, so you may have been a little early which would delay the impact.  Be patient!

Thanks for the replies gents, much appreciated............patience it seems though the blurb on the packet did say see results in 3 days.......put iton 4 days ago,i know its early but there seem to be more.
The 15ml per 5ltr is what it said to use so i stuck to it pretty much until i just lost the will to live and started pouring it in the can!!!
Hector i will try that brushwood if this does not do the job

fox...........you serious about the whiskey?

think i will dig a few more biguns out tomorrow tryingto nick a few quid on the darts rightnow, was slating barney when he lost throw at 4-4 but he brought me some cash in the end!
thanks again

Forgive meBlush it's a very old joke, "How will whiskey help" it will save you a lot of hard work as the grass comes up half cut. Plain

I'll get me strimmer.Sad

neworder69 - You did use Weedol Lawn Weedkiller, didn't you?  Not just straight Weedol?  If the former, you wont have a problem increasing the dosage, the grass will just die nearly as fast as the weeds.

nb SBK Brushwood killer is NOT designed for lawns, and in any event you wouldn't use it anywhere this early in the season anyway. Some smart minds on hereCrazy.

Can you get your tape measure out and go and measure it again please, 10m2 isn't a very big area and you say "it's a lot of grass", you could weed that in no time.

when the weeds are gone and you like green grass piss in a watering can for a week then spinkle on lawn grass will go brown then lovely green grass will come this is true
By:
blackbarn
When: 23 Apr 15 21:57
mad dog man - This is NOT true.  Urine is useful but not undiluted on lawns and after a week in the can the ammonia would kill nearly anthing.  Bloody good for compost mind.

it will kill grass but then lovly green grass will grow promise

I know you are not being entirely serious but to take you at your word, you are saying that the residual fertilising effect of the urine would result in lush growth arising from dormant grass seed in the soil. There is an element of truth in this but dormant weed seeds will  of course experience the same benefitWink  You will end up back where you started.

1. Urine as Fertilizer

Did you know that human urine is chock full of nitrogen? Okay, maybe you did, but you might be wondering why that’s a good thing, and what it has to do with your garden. Well, plants generally need more nitrogen than any other element, as it’s used to synthesize amino acids, enzymes, proteins, and chlorophyll, and some plants suck up far more than others do.

Boxingthefox - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but to cut to the chase.  Neat human urine will kill lawns. Of course it has a high nitrogen content but you need to get it to a state in which it can be used by plants - via very heavy dilution and or recyling by combining with composting. You'll note that NOT ONE of the "eight reasons" in your suggested thread suggest putting it neat on a lawn.

blackburn,  I did not Drink deep, ( a little knowledge is a dangerous thing)or taste  Pierian spring.

I put that up as a matter of interest to the OP. I have no knowledge of peeing on lawns and it's effect.

Sorry boxing, I had mistakenly assumed that you had read the thread and were following the discussion as it moved from weedkiller to fertiliser. Odd that you ended up at urine tooLaugh

Laugh No problem blackburn, that 10.23 post does look as if i'm saying it instead of it being a piece from the article. Wink

I always put urine on the compost heap, it speeds up decomposition no end. Don't save it up thoughCrazy just use what is produced while working there.
By:

When: 23 Apr 15 22:59
mad dog - the high levels of nitrogen and ammonia kills the grass (less in dogs than bitches). The urine spreads and is diluted by exposure to the air and spread through the soil, such that it can be safely absorbed by the plant; which is why you get those bright green "bitch rings" on your lawn.

Anyway, I've tried; If you want to treat your lawn with neat urine, then just go ahead and good luck.

Foinavon - we are in violent agreement!   How is your veg garden (I recall you are in the midlands).  Funny spring here (Sussex) - average temps (particularly at night) in nearly every respect, except we have had lots of sunshine and virtually no rain for the last five weeks.

Very dry on top here too Blackbarn. Some rain expected at the weekend though.
The cold nights in the Midlands mean it's too early for planting or sowing most things yet but we have a flush of weed seedlings which I've been busy hoeing off.
Excellent crop of Rhubarb which is flourishing in the warm daytime weather and the garlic is growing well and promising a bumper crop in June.

Nitrogen in neat dog urine kills gras. As blackbarn states, the diluted version, ( outer ring of the edges of the pool ) goes greener and lush. ) that's ok, but you still have dead brown grass( inc roots) in the middle.

water the urine down  and water grass, results in lush grass growth, as someone stated the nitrogen boosts chlorophyll, greener grass Happy

Kenbo........no mate theres about well I dont know loads of grass maybe nearly hectre? that was 15ml of solution per 10m2.
Probably not helped by being out in the sticks next to a farm, very open and catches the wind(niceviews though!)
Anyway you are all very definatley wanting a lawn update as you will no doubt be thinking about it!!!!:)
Weeds are dying as we speak,Dandylions are looking very unhappy:) but its all the weeds mixed up in the grass I am after shifting so I will do as you all have advised and be patient.
The whiskey thing  was funny showed it to my wife.......I did not know if it was being serious but would have been willing to try it!!!! how stupid am I:)
