Yes I missed it & hopefully I'll do the same with his undoubted win in the next race also.

I think you have an over-simplified view of the difficulties involved in winning a Grand Prix.
This is just another example of the great ChitChat mindset of 'I don't watch it so it must be rubbish'. The answer is simple isn't it? I don't have any interest in WWF wrestling so I don't watch it. Some people like it and they DO watch it. Each to their own. |

naydam.........youll have a very hard job convincing most people its not a very boring sport...........good luck

Clutch/Brake/Steer
Repeat for 70 laps No different to manoeuvring a shopping trolley, really (apart from the clutch/brake bit) |

I'm only trying to get them to have a better understanding of what they are watching. Or NOT watching, as the case may be.

Clutch/Brake/Steer Repeat for 70 laps No different to manoeuvring a shopping trolley, really (apart from the clutch/brake bit) So what team can we be expecting you to drive for in the near future ? After all you appear to have this all sussed out, they must be queuing up to sign you. |

Over the last 40 years I have drifted in & out of Formula 1 & watched most races during the 1980's, its not that I have no understanding of F1 & maybe its an age thing for me but it just comes over as very unexciting & quite boring in recent years, I think that maybe I also have less empathy with today's drivers which may well have something to do with it.

I got 4th place in Dale Winton's "Supermarket Sweep" in 1993
I would have made the podium but for wobbly front wheels on my shopping cart ![]() |

Some might say it is boring to watch Arkle, Frankel, Sea the Stars, Lochsong, Desert Orchid, Double Trigger or Goldikova et al Going about their business of winning. but, of course, that would be because of their inability to comprehend the difficulties that must be overcome to even reach the starting post.
The object of the exercise in F1 is to reach the chequered flag first. THAT is where the race ends. |

Every sport ultimately has a winner some finds some to their liking more than others, no-one is right or wrong, no opinion is right or wrong it will just differ from someone else's.

The Ferrari's are stepping up to the place and are closing the gap on the Mercs as proven in the last couple of races, with a bit of luck the title may become a 4 way scrap,

Some might also say it's getting more and more difficult to see / hear about Arkle, Frankel, Sea the Stars, Lochsong, Desert Orchid, Double Trigger or Goldikova et al now the BBC has reduced it's coverage to a gnat's c0ck seen through the wrong end of a telescope, well beyond Pluto, in order to switch budgets to buy the Emperors New Clothes the petrolheads want to see.

Not sure how anyone can enjoy the current F1
In the passed you had plenty of boring races but at least the cars were decent 'watched' yesterday race because waiting for motogp All they talk about is tyres and fuel economy ffs. The cars sound dreadful as well (yes I have heard them live at a racetrack) As for DRS!!! The commentators try to spice it up by coming up with ridiculus scenarios. Hamilton was easy winner from lap 2 yesterday. I'm confident anyone at a top level of motorsport could switch to F1 and becompetent at a decent level, hence why there are so many pay drivers |
|
By:
Most people don't like F1 because they don't understand what's going on and why, hence the frustration. Its no surprise really, particularly in the last 5 years its become highly technical and reliant on quite a high level of technical understanding to be able to truely follow the story. Its a big jump from kicking a pig's bladder round a field! Of course for those of us who prefer senseless violence, there's always blood sports like Moto GP!

Spot on naydam.
Every sport becomes boring to some when someone starts to dominate as LH is doing. Rather F1 than cricket but each to their own. BTW TV wrestling isn't a sport. |

FKGMZ. I must confess that, of the two motor sports that you mention, I prefer MotoGP. Sadly, I am reduced to watching whatever is offered on ITV4 since British Telecom bought the broadcasting rights. We live in hope, though, that things may change in the future. Failing that, we'll just have to pay more or develop new interests.

Love the way chit chat can keep having the same old arguments. Of course it is a very technical sport. And if you like top gear and Gerry Clarkson and how many cylinders have you got, how much for the walnut dashboard bla bla boring petrol head gas then of course you will like this. If, when you are short of bog roll, you fish out the motoring section as a replacement then you are gonna think it is pointless. All sports, like art, are ultimately pointless. But there is always someone who is the best. Unless it is F1 and the best is an Englishman and then of course it is just the car.
If we all get our neutral hats on then we would all agree that the money the beeb have spunked on it to the detriment of other sports is obscene. And the way they justify this expense by pushing it on us left right and centre is obscene. |

BTCC is on ITV 4 naydam and Motors TV is a free channel on Sky.

I don't like Top Gear...although I have never complained about it because I am tolerant.
I don't like Jeremy Clarkson (or, at least, his Top Gear persona) although I have never complained about him. Formula One is absolutely NOT pointless...almost ALL of the technological advances that will appear in the family cars of the future will have been born in F1. |
|
By:
Oh my mistake. If it has a point it can't be sport then. Because all sport is pointless.
|
|
By:
All sport is based upon military training.
|
|
By:
Sport encourages people to be active and lead a healthy lifestyle whilst supporting a team and going to games or any sports event is good for social reasons for many, far from pointless. Buying a band aid record to support the third world when most of the money is collected by corrupt third world governments who live in palaces and where the band aid performers are all tax dodgers, is pointless.

I think what I find annoying about F1 is the way it is marketed as exciting and glamorous. The BBC actually had a headline "Hamilton wins exciting Bahrain Grand Prix" and in the video of the race put up by the OP you hear the commentator screaming with what was meant to sound like excitement even though it was the usual dreary procession for lap after lap.
It is however interesting as Naydam points out from a science and technology point of view. I have a mate who is a big F1 fan and a keen photographer and obviously most people can see the appeal of these cutting edge machines. It is more like a faster version of trainspotting but certainly not exciting. |
|
By:
They were lapping faster in 2004 than they are now. Plus with no refuelling and the stupid tyres they are miles from the drivers and cars potential when it comes to race lap times. It's like asking usain bolt to run some 11 second 100m
The cutting edge technology nowadays is ERS and fuel economy. If you find that exciting you are a boring twatt All the drivers are insanely boring and apparently incapable of independent thought which doesn't help either. |
|
By:
2004 season was carried out in accordance with a totally different set of regulations.
The object of the exercise, as with all races, is not to go as fast as you can. It is to complete the race in the shortest possible time that enables you to beat the opposition. Going 'as fast as you can' simply results in no grip, no traction, no fuel, no brakes and no chance of winning. How often would you expect to see a two-mile flat race run at three-furlong speed? It is not the way to win the race. |
|
By:
I may be old fashioned but I always thought that F1 should be about building a car that goes as fast as they can go obviously within the parameters keeping the car on the track and safety of drivers, staff and spectators.
However F1 seems to be now just technological gizmo's but parameters are set that keeps the speed down and certainly numbs the driver ability. Fuel economy in F1 geeez what is the point. They could probably drive the cars via remote control around the track. Therefore im ooooouttttt. |
|
By:
ohhhhh and as fast as they can go that will last the 60 laps or so.
|

What a venal, corrupt soulless 'pseudo-sport' it truly is! |

I've just watched the Argentine MotoGP race. Excellent race. Marquez led comfortably for 80% of the race...but Rossi wore down his lead at the end and took the win. Cal Crutchlow taking third place.
Marquez and Honda should have realised that you can't win the race if you don't look after your tyres. One or two ChitChatters could do with learning that, too!! ![]() ![]() The race ends at the chequered flag. Or the tape. Or the winning post. Or after 90 minutes play. The rest of the race/match/bout counts for aught in most cases. As it should be. |
