not everyone cares about getting on ,that's evident in the school years if EVERYONE was competitive life would be truly awful |

...just reminds me of a funny time at school when i had a physics test - really couldn't be bothered ,didn't care and was pretty rubbish at it anyway (like most subjects) -so simply put down any letter A-E in the Muti choice boxes and spent the rest of the test time in a daydream
 somehow managed to still score somewhere around 35% (from memory) and didn't even come bottom  |

Agreed. Now what has that got to do with getting 50% of each generation to go to university and get limited degrees? |

I was referring to the continued deregulation of sectors which is a tory ideology.
Old polytechnicis charging fees for s hitty degrees arguably helped nobody and indebted the individual |

If you want deeper clarification;
The economy it's self is the major winner of having well educated individuals and so could be argued that should be state funded. Passing the cost on to the individual and minimising state interference is indeed a tory ideology, in fact pre Blair the tories were indeed planning to do just that, just they lost the election. So that answers your question as to how I came to such a conclusion. Creating environments with watered down degrees and indebtedness doesnt exactly help those from less privileged backgrounds. They come out with naff degrees and struggle just as they would have without going, except now have the luxury of having to pay for the privileged once they start earning over a given salary, which is far from certain. |

Talk to most of the lads in a workmen's club and they would say bring back work camps but they live alongside the shirkers unlike most of the Labour party handwringers.
