I know what you mean! I wouldn't expect a man in his sixties to stroll around with 'JW' over all his clothes, but they do have some very nice quality shirts though. |

Middle Aged Mans Clothes....simple...keep it simple
Shoes (with socks), smart straight jeans (no rips, big logos, fancy needlework) plus Polo shirt (no phrases/images or big logos) or long sleeved shirt (tucked in) with nice belt (no big buckles). Add a jumper in Winter. Basically nothing too tight or too loose, nothing pretentious. |

Fortunately, the days have gone when anyone over 35 needed to be worried about wearing decent fashionable clobber and was destined to spend Saturday afternoons being dragged round Mark's and Spencer's with the wife to buy a nice pair of 'slacks'.

Yeah, forgot about Debenham's! The one at the "White Rose Centre".
Enter at ground level, splash on some "smellies", then upstairs for a really good selection for pretty much all age groups. I, as with aging "Rockers", refuse to dress like a boring old git! If you want "High Waisters", preferably in beige, to match all your other beige jackets, shirts and knitwear, "Greenwoods" was the place though I think they may have shut shop for not recognising that today,s older men don't want to dress like V!ctor Meldrew. |

If the average life expectancy is around 80, shouldn't middle aged be 40? ___________________ that's a good point - but i think mid life is better for that term. middle aged is used as one of 3 brackets - working age >65 ,middle aged 65-80 and 80 plus (old aged ?) it's because the signs of ageing aren't really that apparent until some time after the early 60s ,and a natural deterioration after 80 for most men . a bit like a wealth scale of 3 stratas ,the rich would only be in the top 5% of the population |

although those men who go downhoill early -ie around 50 could also be called middle aged imo - humans are like cars ,all ageing at differing rates

As someone else or two has said on here...Monterey at Debenhams excellent choice.
White Rose store far better option than the Harrogate branch. Also House of Frasier in Huddersfield very good. |

can we back up a few comments? I didn't realize there was a rule about keeping shirts tucked in once you're past 40
 Is that right? I don't like to tuck shirts in (outside working hours) cos it accentuates my beer gut |

Another stats related comment - an average life expectancy of 80 WOULD BE AT BIRTH, and would take into account infant mortality and early death. Your life expectancy if you reach 60 will way above 80, and possibly as high as or even or higher than 90. These are round numbers of course but you get the point

Primark, Asda, Sainsburys etc. I hate trying on clothes nothing seems to fit so when I find something that does I wear it to distruction. Have got some stuff from Amazon and Ebay thats pretty good, for trainers I don't look anywhere else. I suppose Im a bit of a scruff bag but as I lose my looks I don't give a fuck and it shows!
