She holds the power of that there can be no doubt and I for one am glad of that.

no real surprise with wee nicola. She chewed up all the opposition in the referendum debates (one of them even had to be subbed, and she ripped a new one for the sub as well)

The S.N.P. seem to have convinced traditional Labours
that they will be better off with them. The collapse in the Oil price has just been shrugged off. |

Labour Party will be wiped out in Scotland in the General election. It`s a bit ironic that they endorsed the Union to save the Labour Party down south in the Westminster Parliament and have ended up committing political suicide in Scotland. We had a chance to get rid of the Tories for eternity and all the traditional Labour supporters in Scotland who voted YES won`t forget the betrayal and won`t vote Labour again. And that`s a FACT. tmm Reporting from the Crail Bunker.

EO you have always struck me as an intelligent poster, particularly on politics, and it would be interesting to hear your view?

mighty
Sturgeon has crept up on me. I'd never really rated her and thought she rode on Salmond's coat tails but she seems to be bringing a more measured approach and has lost some of her former shrillness. I think she came in under the radar tonight and has surprised a lot of people (myself included) by her performance but she did benefit by the attention not being on her and the fact that she knew the Westminster brief better than the others knew Scotland's and so she got a very easy ride. I don't agree with your central contention. We are all guilty of sometimes substituting what we want to happen for what will happen and convincing ourselves it is therefore a fait accompli. Let's not forget that a pretty big majority of Scots didn't want independence despite the yes group running a really good and positive campaign. That's relevant because people got really carried away with "what was going to happen" and were dumbfounded when it didn't. The silent majority always speaks in the end. My view is that the SNP will send a bigger contingent to Westminster for sure but that Labour and indeed Lib Dem will still send a good number. I certainly don't see any kind of wipe out as per your prediction. |

EO, I never thought that I would ever see the day when one could get 14/1 on the Labour Party to have most seats in Scotland at a General Election and tbh I wouldn`t bet them @ 1000/1. They were canvassing here very recently and got a hostile reception and I think they were generally shocked at the number of traditional and lifetime Labour supporters who informed them that they were switching their vote to the SNP, particularly since this is historically a Labour stronghold and has never ever elected an MP other than a Labour candidate, even with the boundary changes over the years. Assuming that this trend is similar all over the country, then I think they must be extremely worried.

Nicola is a very intelligent debater and a very shrewd cookie and it`s possible that the result would have been very different on the Indy vote if she had been at the helm. Alex Salmond is a good politician and fights tooth and nail for his constituents, but many were put off voting YES due to the dislike of his persona.

Interesting betting market on the number of Labour seats in Scotland. What would your money be on EO?

The forty fivers never got over getting that pasting The 38ers when you look at it as a %age of the electorate. (for Alias) Yes Nicola was very impressive but then again she normally is as she spouts all the 'we will give you this' and 'we will give you that' rubbish. The YES campaigns financial model depended on an oil price of $100+. With this decimated and the oil industry in turmoil Scotland would have went the way of Greece. God knows the mentality of the YES voters who would still seek independence despite this. We'd be living off Tatties and Neeps. |
|
By:
What gets me about Nicola was her claim during the referendum that SNP would "grow the population" as if this would solve all.
|
|
By:
aka,
irrational hatred of the English is all what the YES campaign is about. They'd much prefer to cut of their nose to spite their face. |
|
By:
current collapse in the oil price is irrelevant unless you're prepared to discuss umpteen previous years of massive oil prices, and the billions in revenue that an indep Scotland would have gained from it.
|
|
By:
@Platini
We are talking about independence and the effect that a reduction in oil prices would have had on an independent Scotland. Not only would we have seen a massive black hole in our funding we would have been faced with an industry crying out for investment meaning even more help from the government. Historical revenues are irrelevant to that argument. |
|
By:
@Wesdag
Spot on. The Union has served us well but people go on about the oil revenues since the fields became productive but forget about the hundreds of years prior to that. BETTER TOGETHER |
|
By:
She was given the same easy time as the Greens and Plaid Cymru.
Came across very well but her plan is simply spenidning more on NHS,Welfare and Education by borrowing more |
|
By:
sorry Aka, you can't have your cake and eat it. Current price is irrelevant unless historical price is discussed.
|
|
By:
What would you hope to achieve by discussing historical prices? All you can hope for is a fair share of the national debt.
|
|
By:
Well enlighten me Plat as I can't see what help the historical price of oil would have been to Scotland had the YES campaigners succeeded.
