Perhaps planes need a dead mans handle.
Say every 5 minutes they just have to press a button on the yoke and if they don't within 2 minutes, an autopilot kicks in and directs them towards the nearest large airport at a safe height, and unlocks the ability for a remote controlled landing. Would have solved that greek one a few years ago, and possibly this? |

So we have some info and its not looking good at all .
from the very start the first pilots name and credentials were available ,many thousands of hours of flying experience and a huge amount on type involved but there was no mention of his co pilot ,not a dicky .....hmmm Some flyers insist on two in cockpit at all times but unsure about this flyer ,others allow one but he must put on oxygen mask in case of a decompression . For the door to remain locked there must be a conscious person in cockpit ,as already stated the pilot can be heard knocking lightly and then banging and trying to break the door down . scenarios : he has went to toilet or been distracted/lured out of the cockpit or someone has got into cockpit when he was out ,or the co pilot has locked door . |

whats the chances the person knocking is not shouting as well and calling out A name ?
from what i understand of the A320 seating layout most of the passengers will have been watching events unfold  looks like an attempt to gain access to cockpit can only be denied by manually overriding request from inside (electric deadlock on door ) but not 100% sure ,but sounds about right ,in otherwards if the request was not physically denied by a switch in cockpit access would be granted (basically a deadmans switch ) |

It sounds as if the story about the locked cockpit door was leaked to a New York paper without the investigators' permission. I wonder if somebody on the inside was determined that the truth wouldn't be supressed?

i don't think it would have been hidden, just prob wanting the other flight recorder and to investigate / talk to family & friends of both pilots before going public
doesn't help them if speculation turns out to be incorrect |

call me a cynic, and I know the circumstances appear to be inexplicable, but I predicted to a colleague earlier today that they would blame the pilot and definitely not the plane...on the basis that Airbus´three main partners are France, Germany and Spain.
The prosecutor said that the pilot could still be heard ´breathing´ indicating that he was still conscious - do people not breathe when they´re unconscious then? |
