Anyway Facts, it wasn't poor taste at all.
I was making a point.

I tend to respond to any crass statement

Then what about this:

Facts in a tizzy straight away.

there wasn't a distress call from the plane according to the press conference, and it never levelled off, it dropped until it hit the mountain

Seen this on the TV like most people today.
Im no expert but have noticed something about the tv pictures which has got me thinking.
The Helicopters have been sending pictures back from the crash scene.
these are getting sent back within a few hours of the crash.
Nothing is burning or no signs of ny smoke.
Could it have run out of fuel ?

But it's up a mountain side in winter which appeared remarkably snow free, which may indicate the snow was burned off?

1830 perhaps you are right.

The pilots did not send a distress signal, so you would say they thought they had it under control. The descent was only twice the normal descent speed so the plane would have been in the pilots grip up until about 6,000ft when it lost contact with air traffic controllers. Then it dropped.

They may have thought a fuel blockage may correct itself but would it really be running on empty?
By:

When: 24 Mar 15 22:13
Would have had to have been a pretty horrendous miscalculation for fuel to have run out less than halfway through a flight.
By:
Angel Gabrial
When: 24 Mar 15 22:18
Perhaps it was losing fuel in flight?
By:
Marcce
When: 24 Mar 15 22:28
Pilots wouldn't just take it upon themselves to descend without letting ground authorities know what they were up to though. There's other air traffic to think about.

If there was an issue with fuel meaning they needed to gradually bring the plane down they'd have asked for details of the nearest airport or something.

The apparent lack of communication suggests hypoxia as the most likely reason but it's all speculation right now.
By:
Angel Gabrial
When: 24 Mar 15 22:40
Hypoxia was my first guess but was just adding to the fuel theory Marcce.

They have found the black box, so the tale should be revealed
By:

When: 24 Mar 15 22:53
Whatever the cause I hope they find out pretty sharpish.

I fly in that direction quite frequently. While people around me are oohing and ahhing about how pretty it is flying over the Alps I'm always thinking just hurry up and get the feck over the things in the knowledge that any emergency descent won't leave much room to spare over the peaks of some of them.

also reports (unconfirmed ) that there was a military jet escorting flight  ,seems it had just reached its max cruise altitude 38k ft  when it started descent .
Flight was delayed for 1/2 hr and it seems no satisfactory explanation has been forthcoming ,also plane was grounded yesterday with a defective door .
All pointing to a decompression incident imo

Elise ..yea a misread the data ,was looking at the flight graphs and it appears level when in fact it was the end of the flight Cry

there was some confusion about whether a mayday or distress call or transponder  had been flicked to emergency was made ,there was another flight which was shifted by air traffic control as they were getting no replies and a jet would have been scrambled ,it squawked when it was moving and the jet was squawking as well ,i also believe there was other military aircraft in the air and this was  all standard procedure ,they knew there was a problem early quickly
Black box will confirm if a decompression was the cause ,of course it could be other things ,a decompress followed by o2 equipment failure malfunction ,fire ,smoke ,ect ect ect
of course nothing will be ruled out ,not sure but a think the box recovered  earlier was the cvr (voice recorder) ,so unsure if they now have the FDR yet but i would think they will and we will know the facts shortly .

there are still a few probs with the theories but all will become clear soon ,hopefully .

Absolutely horrendous.. Having previously flown a lot on business it was always ones worst nightmare. Unimaginable scenes on board before crash. Poor poor people. RIP.

at 38k feet it would be over very quickly Facts ,although something doesn't quite seem right as they had a controlled decent but maybe just had time to set a altitude and nothing else ,unsure not a pilot but below is a rapid high altitude rapid decompress  simulation ,all hap very quick

i agree it feels like a decompression, they got on oxygen, started a decent but maybe as in that greek crash they passed out and just flew on into the hill in a steady descent

if you watch the heading from when they cross the coast there are no turns, if it were engine failure or fuel they would have gone for the coast rather than heading towards the alps

i guess someone could have done it on purpose either one of the crew or a passenger as an alternative
By:

When: 24 Mar 15 23:45
just to add it's about 80 miles from when they start the drop until impact on the same heading

BBC newsman said after radio contact was broken it all went wrong in just 8 minutes.

Perhaps he hasn't worked out that 8 minutes at roughly 500 mph is 70 miles.

There are no signs a German plane crash in France was the result of terrorism, the White House said Tuesday.

There are no signs a German plane crash in France was the result of poor maintenance, I said Wednesday.

Strange the worlds media reported the first statement ?

So would there have had to have been an explosion on board to cause a hole in the fuselage ?

When: 25 Mar 15 13:19
doesn't have to be an explosion, could have been something like a window failure especially cockpit window, at 38000ft the temp and decompression would disable the flight crew in seconds, they may never have got on oxygen even if it worked, might have told autopilot to dive, passed out, autopilot dropped plane held course with an unconscious flight crew
By:

When: 25 Mar 15 13:25
The plane had just reached its peak cruise alt when it started a controlled descent suggesting that if there was a structural weakness this is when it would fail.
suspicions this is what has happened here ,although its just speculation but by now they will know if o2 masks were deployed ,were on the dead ,whether they were on the flight crew and pilot .TBH seems like a windscreen failure is being looked at ,pilot only a chance to turn alt dial way down .Only thing is this plane should have leveled off before  terrain was encountered ,but pilot needed to do a couple more things ,because it did not do so the speculation is that there was an event in the cockpit rather then elsewhere.
very sad and tragic events ,150 dead RIP .

If there was main body damage i suspect the plane would have disintegrated and wreckage would have been strewn over much further.
Reports of a severely damaged FDR .

A think we will know the full tragic details shortly

The Sun, in its infinite wisdom, reports that the plane broke up into 'two million pieces'.

An astounding piece of counting imo.
By:

When: 25 Mar 15 15:26
was typing as you posted elise ,did not see your post .

pilot had time to turn alt dial down ,prob just as much as he could ,if it was windshield temp would have been below -50 ,400mph wind ,no chance imo ,although i think they are unlucky because although incapacitated they could have regained capacity at lower alt ,how long that would have took though ? , the plane although on auto pilot should have leveled and some of these planes do have the ability to avoid terrain and some can even auto land although controls have to be set ,not sure if a plane could predict a mountain peak anyway
There is a possibility this  could have been oh so diff if it had happened a few mins later  and they had cleared the mountains.

of course everything is just conjecture and maybe pointless

It shows that flying is not quite as risk free as we think, and neither is life

They were plucked out of life and that's it, very sad

One would hope the passengers were not aware of the danger and were all killed on impact, which would seem likely
most humane result
