I saw them clinch the Division 1 (Premiership) title in '70 at Anfield by holding out for a 0-0. The reception they got at the Kop end was unbeleivably generous.

Without wishing to boast, with the fortune I made today laying Chelsea, I can at least surely achieve my lifetime's ambition. I can finally invite Mandy Rice Davies out for a slap-up dinner at Claridges, and take the precaution of booking a room too.

Someone had 44k at 1.01 on Chelsea apparently.

Assume they backed it back at 1.0x at 2-1 ?

That Bradford game gave me  a real feelgood feeling, did not just win but were 2-0 down to the best team in the land & then score 4 goals, unreal, BUT it really annoyed me having that poll after asking is this the biggest cup upset of all time, & getting a 74% yes from so called voters all of whom were probably under 30 years of age.
I could post several bigger shocks but will just post Hereford non league part timers beating top division Newcastle.
Having polls like that really is mickey mouse TV imo, anyway rant over & not to take anything away from Bradford they were brilliant.

Good night

Yes pumpy, Chelsea made 9 changes but still fielded a team with massive first team experience. However the Ronnie Radford goal instantly sprang to mind in that great Hereford win and that team performance was better imo. If you look back in history the Bradford win would probably just sneak in the top 10 upsets.

Colchester 3, Leeds 2, as mentioned above was probably a greater upset. 3 divisions apart and Leeds fielding their top strength side if memory serves.

you're probably right pumps ,a lot of under 30s swaying the votes

however -

recently non league Luton beat top flight Norwich away, although a makeshift Norwich team. - so in terms of league difference that eclipses yesterday . But that doesn't account for a lot .

I think most folks reasoning is that Chelsea are way beyond average Premier league ,material - they're like Premier league plus  - also, the Chelsea team of today would wipe the floor with the old 70s Leeds side ,possibly by 3 or 4-0  , teams are MUCH more professional now and sourced from wider afield ,whereas lower league teams are still working on pretty much the old framework  .
Plus as Canny/Tommy  mentioned , they scored 4 after being 2 down .

So yes, yesterdays result was  the biggest ever  and probably by some distance - the only thging that takes the shine off it though is commitment .

were Chelsea commited enough in the same way Leeds ,Coventry or Newcastle  might have been all those years ago  ?

As for Wimbledon v Liverpool ,what the fook are BBC on ?  Wimbledon were a decent top flight team ,not a non league side . Angry

We have to agree to disagree on this one Coach.
Take Leeds in 1971 best team in the land without a doubt, winners in 72 finalists in 70 beaten by a 4th Division team, sorry that beats Chelsea second team I agree a very decent second team being beaten by  a team two leagues lower & I wont go into Hereford a team over 100 places lower than Newcastle all of who worked outside football for a living, but that's my opinion others will surely disagree.

Be lucky

total goals in the three cup games today lay 8 or more at odds on, all look cagey to me & perhaps a shortage of goals Silly

Words fail me when I keep hearing year-after-year, decade-after-decade, that the Wimbledon 1988 FA Cup Final win was one of the biggest acts of giant-killing of all time.

Memo to cretinous football media pundits : Wimbledon finished 7th in the First Division that season. They weren't even a lower division side, like when Sunderland beat Leeds in '73, or West Ham beating Arsenal in 1980. The 1988 result WASN'T any real shock.

Please end this tedious nonsense.  And please STOP the lies that the Wimbledon team of that era were a laugh-a-minute, cheery, cuddly, loveable 'men of the people' sorts. They weren't, as the recent BT Sport documentary revealed, lest anyone had forgotten. (Personally I'd have crossed the road to avoid some/most of them). The documentary is free  on Youtube if anyone needs a reminder.

West Ham beating Arsenal in 1980.
____________

that West Ham team was probably the 3rd or 4th best in the land even though they were a second division team - it wasn't a great shock when they won the final - a little bit like the Boro league cup final team in 98 with Merson etc plying their trade in the second flight .

Pumpy lad -  no disrespect to the 70s teams they were very good , but the bar has been raised a lot since then.

Bear in mind that it was pretty much a UK domiciled league in that era ,these days the best 200 or so UK players play outside the top flight anyway - they have no choice .

Then add the extra levels of skill -it was a more physical game years ago i believe  . So that very good Leeds side would probably be battling it out in the Championship  today .

Same level as what Coach, Hereford could not even be class as a 5th division side no conference then the Southern league was on a par with the Northern Premier League.
Also you cannot compare a side from 40 years ago to how they would perform playing a team of today, its like saying would the 1936 Derby winner beat the 2014 Derby winner, probably not due to  improved breeding & training techniques nothing to do with ability at that given time.

It's always contentious comparing old with new esp with sport .

A bit like comparing a new car with one from 1974  - one would expect improvements  as time goes on in performance ,fuel economy ,safety, comfort etc as money is spent on research etc , and with all the money in todays football the game has changed out of all recognition.

Its more than just a sport now -  millions spent on  fitness gurus, trainers , psycologysts ,counselling  - training breaks in feckin Abu dhabi or wherever.

I still remember the time when preparation for some players was a trip to the bookies Laugh

it's not an ability thing ,it's simply as stated above .

Money has changed the game -it's not even the English premier league really -  that's been added as a glamourpuss league .

The top English league really is the Championship or bottom 6 of the EPL .

Really enjoyed watching Bradford & Boro  on MOTD

You do wonder though , is it the Premier League pampered superstars & clubs are not interested in the FA Cup or is it the lower league players showing that week in week out they fail miserably to perform within a million miles of yesterday ....no idea what is the answer.

Two seasons ago my team Oldham  (17th in div 1) beat Liverpool , Suarez , Sturridge & Sterling . We had been awful all season , yet  come the superstars & tv cameras & hey presto we looked like a Premier League Team ....

you have to use a bit of psychology with this lot

players are like children  - they love showing off , look ta me type personality in the main so cameras play a huge part for one ,as do big crowds
