The Sun newspaper will no longer feature topless women on Page Three, the Times has reported.

The Times, which has the same publisher as the Sun, said it understood Friday's edition of the Sun was the last which would carry images of topless women, although they would continue online.

Page Three has been a Sun feature for 44 years but has been criticised for being sexist and outdated.

The Sun's press office would neither confirm nor deny the reports.

Dylan Sharpe, the Sun's head of public relations tweeted: "Page 3 will be in the Sun tomorrow in the same place it's always been - between page 2 and page 4."

'Right direction'

The Sun had already stopped carrying topless images at weekends, and sometimes did the same during the week.

Page Three of the Sun featured model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in lingerie on Monday and Hollyoaks actresses Jennifer Metcalfe and Gemma Merna appeared in bikinis on a beach on Tuesday.

The Times, which is a News UK title, said the paper had decided to quietly drop the feature. It reported that News Corp executive chairman Rupert Murdoch is understood to have signed off the decision.

The topless images have long drawn protests from campaigners, with an online petition attracting more than 215,000 signatures.

So the Sun have finally succumbed to a load of insecure women.

There was not a man on this planet who wanted it gone.

Most Sun readers are men.

Makes no sense.

They never had to read the paper.

According to Sky, they still have it Online anyway.

I picked up a copy of The Sun in the hairdressers a few months ago and was surprised to still see a topless woman on page 3.

Seemed such a strange, old-fashioned thing to see in a supposedly family newspaper.

I haven't read this rag since I sat on the train on the way to college a few years ago, but to bow down to pressure after so long to lorry load of feminists is disappointing. Was reading one of the campaigners aged 35 today blaming her insecurities all her life on her own breasts (being small) on the effect of page 3.Crazy

Newspaper circulation I would imagine is dwindling anyway, they will probably all fold in the next 10 years in the paper form and move online soley. Will have to make do with the Metro only and it's mildly amusing love column "lady with the blonde hair and pencil skirt on the 7.46 train to London Bridge, caught my eye as you were getting off, fancy a coffee sometime?"....how about you ask her instead of emailing a newspaper ffsLaugh

To do this they are subtly changing men's view through the media.

If modern men do not eventually want to go the same way as the dinosaurs they need to be seeing this

Remove the vote from women
, that should now be men's aim.
Also although it goes against the grain, men must reduce the importance of sex in our society
because this is where all women's power come from. They have nothing else.

Very good point EO the hypocrisy here is incredible

I would also suggest the way women dress and behave especially when they are drunk at night is far more likely cause
of sexual offences than looking at a pair of boobs in the Sun
Not that it justifies sexual offences of course

If they consider women are being degrading, I would suggest this is only the women who have voluntarily
agreed to appear in these pictures and are well paid...no other women are degraded ..if that is what they are?

Of course women do not like their husbands and boyfriends looking at these pictures,
in case they compare unfavourably, this is all that is going on here.
But they have no right to expect this other men..because basically this has nothing to do with women

As I have said before, modern men need to stop listening to women so much, they are just trying to control everything men do
