they dont jump now ,they sit in a leather chair with a grand bottle of brandy and 1000 pound cigar and wait for gideon to trot along with a wheelbarrow with 400 billion in it,if they could they,d instigate a crash they would because they are richer now than the 2008 crash

Call me old-fashioned, but financial advice from someone who is SIX YEARS OUT on the Wall Street Crash AFTER it happened, may not have his finger on the pulse.

There must be a chance of the ECB announcing a surprise round of QE next Thursday - If so, expect stocks to get a boost.

Brassneck.  You clearly know enough to know that there is "wobbling" going on. The thing is though that there is already a lot to wobble about - Terrorism, Commodity demand, Eurozone deflation etc etc. The key question is how much of all this risk is already priced in to the markets.  If you are a worrier, buy a Gold ETF, and buy shares in both big Drug companies and both big Tobacco companies.

nb - I bought back into Gold a week ago.

Yes,im thinking that myself, they would need to print billions .
My guess is that Europe are about to split into two groups,A rich group and a poor group, and they are going to chuck out Greece.
But it looks like we are all heading for a world wide recession.and all countries will be set back 100 years.
its looking bad for England ,as  we will all go into deflation, and spain, portugal ,and Ireland will surely suffer real bad,as they own billions.Italy are in serious troubleas well.Thats my own opinion.

I think that the Euro needs a massive boost,so the powers that be will do something about it next Monday or Tuesday.
its a bit like the gambling on betfair.
So say a guy changes all he has to buy euro's,sits it out for a week or hides behind the sofa and then sells his euro's next week-end for a free 1/4 profit.
But if some other breaking news arrives during the week a guy could end up in the poor house.
Something like bye bye Greece, and division 1 and division 2 in Europe,we could have sky scraper jumping.
But at the moment the BRASSNECK CORPORATION advises to but euro's and sell next week.Laugh

The money men are So Greedy they artificially 'prop up' the markets & artificially avoid the general public getting in on any full blown crash

1 month to today  BP were trading @ 365p  , Tesco 165p , most were too busy looking at Christmas tree's to buy instead

If they didn't Fully crash in 2008 after the banking fiasco , it Never will imo
By:

When: 17 Jan 15 21:23
Not sure if I am the only one Mc Moonbeam, but I do not understand your post. In what way, were Joe Public prevented from buying Tesco shares at their trough of just shy of 165p on December 15th.  Are you saying they were being artificially inflated at not far off half their post 2008 crash price? I'm puzzled.

The reason the Euro and £ are wobbling against the other markets is because their manufacturing has never properly recovered and although the economies have seemingly prospered over Christmas in terms of spending it is clearly because personal borrowing is up massively. Spending power has not increased, people have just whacked the plastic. And the Eurozone is still having to import more and more.

The markets are a different matter, it could go tits up at any stage. Sticking your money in shares is like making a play at Angelina Jolie. You might get your tongue down her throat, get your hands on her baps or if you're lucky you'll get your fingers and tops, but be careful because it's unlikely you'll get your end away and at some stage Brad Pitt is going to come home and chop your nuts off.
By:
Mc Moonbeam
When: 17 Jan 15 21:33
I'm not saying they were prevented blackbarn , just that as soon as any value appears it won't last very long at all as the big traders will simply trade the value upwards , regardless of a true representation of the market/company .

The markets are just Hot Air imo

I mean is BP really worth 10% More than they were last month (they're a huge cash rich company - regardless of the price of oil)
By:
blackbarn
When: 17 Jan 15 21:37
marychain - Your £ vs the Euro non-wobble is a shocking omission - Up on the week, the month, the year, the last two years. Not so much a wobble, more a trend.  French holidays this year!!

Re your "stick your money in shares" view,  What do you suggest for those with a pension and savings?
By:
Mc Moonbeam
When: 17 Jan 15 21:38
I disagree though marychain

I'd rather have my money in markets than sat in a Uk bank (although I haven't) as I just buy & sell Sad

If Banks don't go tits up .. how the hell can the markets ... think about it ffs
By:

Mc Moonbeam.  To answer your question, yes of course they are!!.  Worth is simply what a willing buyer will pay a willing seller. Twas ever thusWink.
By:

When: 17 Jan 15 21:47
you get my point though , 10% is Absolutely Gigantic in terms of a company like BP's net worth (which is all a share price is)

I was meaning more that they prvent any true crash , more than preventing the public from buying (the public buy less than 1% of all shares)
By:
blackbarn
When: 17 Jan 15 21:57
Yes I do Mc. but I dont really agree with the absolute direct link between net worth and share price even though that is how it should work. Share prices these days are a heady mix of loads of different factors.

One of the best pieces of investment advice I was given is that in a market downturn look for big companies that are following the market down but whose business is not affected by that downturn to the same extent as all or most of their competitors. Wouldn't have Tesco or BP in that camp but American Express in 2008 was a good callHappy

I do tbh , that's all it should mean , though you're right , that's the beauty of a free market of course & it'd be impossible to make anything worthwhile otherwise Happy

Just because they own them they probably didn't buy them rob , the banks , pension companies all trade in each others pockets
