Anyone know what Penge is like?

Its not as much of a sh1thole as Annerly. The Bridge is a decent Gastro pub but that is about it for drinkers; the other pubs are pretty horrible. There is some quite nice housing and it is more affordable than other places in SE London. Rough around the edges would be a fair description. I live up the road, btw.

Not a bad place. Most places South of the A205 are not bad apart from Norwood and Croydon as Stevie says.

For my money, he would have been a lot better off moving towards the more extreme SE, like Petts Wood, Orpington or Bexley. Prices round Bexley are quite decent in relation to Penge and the area is a lot nicer. It's where I live and I don't want to move.

Pratts bottom has to be the best placed name in the country

Penge is better than Newham.

Then again, so is Stoke.

Not been to penge for a long time, lucky me whooo hooo.

Penge used to an horrendous place but because folks can't pay the silly money for a decent house in places like nearby Beckenham now it has upped its game quite a lot. It's not the dreadful place it used to be in the early 80's and I wouldn't put your mate off from moving there. Sydenham would be a better choice though for me if say Dulwich or Beckenham is not on his list in that area of South London.

boxingthefox, gadzooks man there are much worse places to live near my manor believe me. I take it you haven't been to Deptford or Peckham recently?
