Ukip are just in the right place at the right time to gather up the enormous and growing swathes of population who despise mainstream politicians. In truth they are a complete rabble (which is strangely part of their appeal) with a totally incoherent set of policies.

bigmo - I totally agree with you. You ask the right question. The fact a young party which emerges from a single issue party with little discipline, a fair share of weirdos in high positions and a fairly random set of policies can get the support it gets says everything about the state of the other parties.

we should be very grateful that we have UKIP.
In the latest general election in Sweden, the Sweden Democrats, who are the equivalent of the BNP, got 13% of the vote because every other mainstream party refused to make commitments about reducing immigration. They turned it into a them or us thing. That's right 1 in 7 people in a country which apparently is the most racially tolerant in the world were prepared to vote for massive dangerous racists because that's how concerned they are about this single issue. In the UK and in Sweden, and other parts of Europe, this is all about registering a vote over a single issue which affects a lot of peoples lives which isn't being addressed by the mainstream parties. People are showing that they don't care too much about the party that carries the issue. We should be grateful that we have a moderate bunch of mild misogynist anachronistic racists representing this issue rather than a motley collection of frothing cross burning loons. but of course, it would be better if the mainstream parties addressed these issues themselves. |

They may be deranged but they aint deluded,deluded is somebody who votes for a party which covered up and swept under the carpet the systematic sexual abuse of underage vulnerable young white girls and boys by an ethnic minority group because they feared it might stir up some trouble.
Through political dogma and the imperious self belief that the good of the party was greater than the welfare of our children ,hang your head in shame if you voted labour. |

Apparently, if Labour had lost that close seat, Red Ed's position would have been untenable. I can't think of would have replaced him but Balls would have been another major disaster.

labour held middleton despite the low turn out. The big threat is to the tories. UKIP will get votes in labour areas but they are unlikely to take many seats. They are more likely to stop tories winning in a number of key marginals and may take some seats off them down south. |

THe UKIP bandwagon will pick up speed by next May. Labour voters will begin to get more exposure to Milipede and despair as Farage talks their language more than Ed could ever do. I wonder if Ed will even be there by May next year.Chukka will increase the UKIP vote even more.
