Good luck, The Bhoys. I've got a mate who's a natural p*sshead (and the rest), and he's brought his drinking down considerably over the last few years, partly due to periods of abstinence. He still goes on bénders, but not with anywhere near the same frequency.
Er, be prepared for the fact that life isn't all that great when you're sober either, and it certainly won't become so automatically. In your case, I'd definitely suggest doing even more exercise (I know you play football), as endorphins do make you feel good. Then, if this goes OK, you can maybe try a longer period of abstinence next year training up for a half marathon or something. |

The bhoys youve found an excuse to stop drinking and you will find a reason to start drinking. ive red your posts over the years and you need help youve not a chance of doing it on your own yove crossed the line where you can drink like normal people ,and likes been said its far from hunky doory when your sober you need to work on yourself, which is the part that i wont do so i am still a dry drunk, lifes not nice to me now but its better than it was when i was drinking at the end.i know exactly where you are because ive been there cant live with the alcohol and cant live without it ,i promise you ,100% you will drink again if you dont seek help, and you think its bad now it only gets worse,im not having a go at you believe me ,its just what it does to you when youve crossed the line and your well past it

the price you pay for living in the west is excess
mainly corporate sorts that encourage 'freedoms' while hiding behind 'responsible use' slogans for the regulators. the bottom line is its everywhere, you go to the cinema its on tap, you go bowling its on tap you go to the supermarket thats open all hours everyday its always on offer. the profiteers play lip service to regulators but no funker cares really, the culture is to get drunk. |

Good luck Bhoys - you've been mentally building up to this for a few weeks now and it's been good to see how you've resisted the temptation to get Barlowed with the other lads on that thread. It will probably be a good thing if you keep posting on there just to remind yourself how bad things get given the state they seem to be in ( no disrespect to those guys ) by the way - their time will come to get sorted. Given that by your own account you have been to the lowest point I think Do Wa Diddy is right about getting help.
I was sorry to hear that you didn't get that job last week but you seem to have got some confidence from the the interview. Keep trying but maybe avoid jobs where they are likely to do a police check. It's a difficult dilemma about whether to declare your past. Tell the truth and they won't give you the job or don't declare and they give you the job. If they subsequently find out it can be grounds for dismissal but maybe by that time you have proved yourself and they will keep you on. It's a difficult decision but everyone deserves a chance at some stage. |

Good luck with your mission, Bhoys. I've been off it a week and intend to stay off it for good. Easy said but just take it one day at a time. Sage advice, Do Wah.

I almost went 12 hours, then Leicester beat Man Utd 5-3. I haven't stopped since then.
Which will last longer my Liver or Leicester in the Premier League. |

Jason Vales book "Kick the drink easily" is a terrific read and the equivalent of Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking book.

I'm sure I saw 'the bhoys' post a similar thread about 4 years ago when I was 'cruising the archives' a few days ago.
You wouldn't sit there hitting yourself over the head with a facking hammer, which is definitely no good for you. Don't cut down, don't promise yourself 'next week'. Just...****g...stop. |
