Looks more and more likely that his legacy will be the break up of the country he was PM for.

He agreed to give Scotland a YES/NO referendum only.

If it was YES/NO/More devolved powers, more than likely that either No, or at worst for him more devolved powers would have won as vote would be split.

Given now that in the event of a No vote he has already agreed to give Scottish parliament more powers, this must go down as one of the biggest bloopers ever by a British PM ever regardless of the result of the referendum. (And that takes some doing)

The black gold belongs to whoever makes the investment to extract it. Sovereign governments collect licence fees and royalties which are a small percentage of the market value.
Should there be a Yes vote in the referendum then the UK treasury will lose the royalties and the Scottish government will gain them. If, as will probably happen, they find that this income is insufficient to cover their election promises they can consider increasing the royalty rates. This will work in the short term but when it comes to investing in new offshore fields the oil companies might then decide that it's no longer a worthwhile investment.
What would Scotland then do with "its" oil.

Report themightymac September 7, 2014 5:58 PM BST
England is not our enemy and the only blackmail going on at the moment is all the scaremongering in the media regards Scottish Independence, i.e. job losses, currency, bankruptcy, etc. Sad thing is that a lot of the "thickos" up here actually believe what they read in the papers. If you look at the state of the middle east and the 100,000s dead and the instability that may last for many more decades, it's got to be Blair. Also any break up of the union was of course set in motion by Blair trying to engineer a permanent Labour kingdom in Scotland and it going off in his face, Cameron is dealing with the consquences.

To try and compare the "bedroom tax" to the misery Blair has helped unleash on the world shows a bit of a lack of perspective. Nobody outside the UK give a sh*t about it, try bleating about it to a yazidi who has lost their entire family.

The strange thing is I don't think Blair is a genuinely nasty politician and meant well in a way, unlike real pieces of work like Griffin or Salmond.

One man's "better at running the economy" is another man's "attacking the poor again"

A better way to run the economy is to go after tax evaders/avoiders which costs the country more than twice what the welfare state does, Cameron would rather given his millionaire mates tax breaks instead, there is precisely zero logic in trying to save money in one place when you can save so much more in another. If Cameron was also so good at running the economy he would not have had IDS as head of the DWP, who wasted how many millions trying to implement 'Universal credit'. As for Thatcher, she may well have allowed people to buy their homes but at the same time she never replaced the housing stock needed for the growing population that included immigrants her party opened the door tooWink
