My Uncle is the richest person I've ever known and he would cross the road to pick up a penny. He is also the most odious git on the planet, even his own children hate him. I can't abide meaness, I don't associate with such people.

Kindness is looking after a sick relative, helping out an elderly neighbour, or reading a book to your young son, not splashing out on fillet steak and champagne imho.
|
|
By:
^ cheapskate
pick the free stuff eh? |
|
By:
WTF have fillet and steak got to do with kindness?
|
|
By:
Tight people are not nice because they are very selfish and only think of themselves.
|
|
By:
They say the Queen's tight with money.
Probably true because she never sends me a Christmas card - mind you I don't send her one, the miserable old codger. |
|
By:
Tight people know what people today are like, if you are lucky to have some money make sure nobody
finds out, they will do their outmost to get it off you and will hate you forit |
|
By:
^ The above post is very true
|
|
By:
I'd much rather splash the cash than look after a sick relative, but I know what I consider the bigger act of kindness is and it isn't splashing the cash.

Diogenes smashed the wooden eating dish he owned when he saw a child eating with his hands.
What would the daily mail readers make of that today I wonder? 'Tramp too daft to understand tableware' no doubt. |

I find it the opposite. The kinder and more generous they are, the bigger miserable ***** they are. Sometimes I think that they think that if they are generous, people will forgive their nastiness and possibly like them.

My old man really did place sauce bottles on top of each other to get all the dregs out.
Had to tip toe around the place unless they smashed. Accountant through and through plus he sellotaped string to his money |

Mean people often propel the image of being kind & caring , imo
I remember when i was young we often went to our cousins , they'd usually do a nice meal for us as guests , the one time i was only about 7 yrs old but they said they weren't cooking & the adults would all put £10 & we'd get a huge chinese between us all , my parents were good people but quite poor & fuffled about , they barely had £10 petrol money to get back home , but put their £10 in no bother , there was another couple there who were next , no kids but simply said sorry they hadn't got a penny ..... As all their money was tied up in Bonds !! (this was £10 for a chinese) anyway they didn't put a penny but ate half the chinese which us kids got the leftovers of & a few prawn crackers I just remember feeling my parents hurt as a 7 year old that people would act like this & put good people on the spot , while they hoarded everything they owned in Bonds I guess little things like this have affected me to this day |

My mate, who is a millionaire invited me to go racing with him. He arrived in his flash Jaguar and before I had even put the seat belt on he said, "We`ll go £20 each for the petrol".

wow really Mac
![]() Yep i wasn't gonna post that story , but is one of those that sticks with you from a young age , bare in mind we lived 25 miles away on a council estate & was 30 years ago, my parents were genuinely poor with me & my sister £10 was a lot to them , my mom would always cook a big meal if ever they came to u it's what they did , you can't hide those emotions of hurt at a young age , people don't think you know what's going on but i read everybody like a book |

My dads millionaire brother would just send us all £20 in a card (prob like £100 now) but could honestly never give a fck about us , he ripped my dad off for working for him when we were poor & needy

They're not. I know a bloke who won't spend a penny unless he has to, but makes generous donations to charity.
|
|
By:
Yes eternal he did.
In fact he did many things purposefully against what others wished of him, that was his point. I laugh at the story of when he saw everyone working in the market he would pointlessly roll his barrel around instead of helping |

"Roll his barrel around" ??? Any chance of a bit more detail?

Had to look him up. Did Sciences at school not Classics - had to choose one route at 15.
From Wikipedia ... "He declared himself a cosmopolitan. There are many tales about him dogging Antisthenes' footsteps and becoming his "faithful hound".[3] Diogenes made a virtue of poverty. He begged for a living and slept in a large ceramic jar[4] in the marketplace. He became notorious for his philosophical stunts such as carrying a lamp in the daytime, claiming to be looking for an honest man." Like the bit about him dogging ... until I read on. |
|
By:
It was a ceramic jar, but basically a barrel that he lived in.
He refused to work and made fools of the like of Alexander the Great. Told people to debase the currency and spat in people's faces, calling civilisation degenerate....then asked if they had any change hahaha |

My maternal grandfather.
Had all his teeth out due to them being rotten because of his only extravagance - he was a chain smoker, 80 Embassy a day was no problem. Did he buy false teeth? Did he bollocks. He spent the last 15+ years of his life living on corned beef mashed potatoes, with apple crumble for dessert. They lived in Canning Town, but he would walk to Stratford Fruit and Vegetable market for the shopping, then carry it all home. That was a 7 mile slog to save about two shillings (10p) Every Sunday he'd walk to Petticoat Lane market and buy big bars of Cadbury's Dairy Milk chocolate as it was fourpence cheaper than the corner shop. He worked at Fords in Dagenham all his life, so probably had a decent pension. He was just a miserable, tight, bastard. |

My grandad had his own polo pony, regularly played golf and ate out, lived at exclusive addresses, paid for a nanny and a personal tutor for my dad before paying for his private education, but I was lucky if I got a pound in a christmas card from him. He'd blown the lot by then.

the bloke who used the nutcrackers in above post , he wanted a campervan but didn't want to splash out on campervan prices so he bought a ford transit van for peanuts ,and thought he would convert it himself ,when it came to cutting out the windows he phoned a hire company for a quote on an angle grinder/cutter and didn't like the quote and said he would do it himself ,I saw him a few days later and his knuckles on his hands looked like they had been through a mincer! turned out he had bought a dozen or so of those old fashioned kitchen hand tin openers and cut out the windows with them ffs

The one earlier about the chinese ..It was one of the kids birthdays a few years back , had a bit of a party at ours and had the family around and all decided to get an indian takeaway . There were 14 adults so we decided to go £5 each , so we would have £70 to get a load of food , 2 of my mates who brought no beer didnt put in cos they were skint so we had £60 .
When the food came , THERE WAS LOADS , i put it all in the kitchen with spoons in each of the currys , opened the rice , pappadums , sauces etc and left it to others and i was gonna get some later . I noticed them all coming in with plates piled up and thought bloody hell take it easy . About 15 minutes later i noticed my sisters boyfriend { a proper tight tw@t} come back in with ANOTHER plate piled sky-high and then another 2 fellas who were also there . What do these foukurs want for a fiver . To be honest every one that got an extra plate are horrible TIGHT penny pinchers anyway . As i stated earlier , i know of no tight people that are good people , THEY ARE ALL HORRIBLE . |
