One of the most important speeches I have heard in my lifetime
but unfortunately it came at the wrong time 1968 was all about peace and love to all, the Beatles and their maharishis, flowers in your hair, etc did not go down that well |

God damn hippies!
The most self centered hypocrites ever to walk the planet. Free love was all about doing what you want and sod the consequencies. The punks where the real carers of society. |
|
By:
It is perfectly right we hang on to our British tradition, it is our identity
Of course we are also a tolerant society, so we allow other ways of life and religion but this does not mean we have to change our own traditions in any way |

I am never totally sure either way. A great deal of my friends are from all sorts of nations. But many from decades ago. Many were very westernised in all sorts of ways but some still kept a deal of their cultural heritage. So I was cool about it as they say.
My parties, dinners and socials looked more like the United Nations!!!Muslims, Hindus, guys on the run from B.O.S.S, Chinese, Sri Lankan, East africans and so on and so on. It is the people who seem to decline involving themselves in many of our customs and laws who I am somewhat concerned about. |

Ah Angel..but the hippies were so much less aggressive that the punks

You sound a decent chap moisok, who tries to be fair...in fact most of us do
The problem is your last line, this is what Enoch Powell foresaw, integration may not in fact be possible My problem was not so much immigration, as so much the numbers..one has to keep things in proportion |

AG, your clearly getting into the Larry mould twisting statements.
I quite clearly didn't say you shouldn't or couldn't just enquired why you would want to? Silly cheap points just make you, like Larry look like a t***! |
|
By:
Already answered that question with the word Education. I am now educated on the BNP broadcast, without viewing it i would be ignorant to the BNP broadcast.
Now then are you going to ask me me what effect it had my political persuasion or just march around like one of Kim Jong-uns demon barbers? Have you listened to Enochs Rivers of Blood speech NLad? If so, why would you want to? One rule for you NLad. |
|
By:
Actually I read about it in the press.
The BNP are complaining that UKip have stolen their members- BNP down from 6% in previous EU elections to 0%. Also that they had stolen their slogans. May have watched it if I had known it was on for amusement purposes but enquired as to why you as a converted UKip supporter would watch it? The fact UKip is an updated, more voter friendly progression of the National Front and BNP is not news to anyone. Like their predecessors just racist scum! |
|
By:
Like their predecessors just racist scum! that sounds like a reasonable argument Lad ![]() |

I am intrigued by many things NLad. The human psyche is one of them.

Is it so wrong, that people want our British traditional society back?
They do not want change strange people, strange values, etc This is a very human reaction... Still I doubt we can go back I just don't want things to be made any worse that is all |

Did you celebrate St Georges day?
No you didn't? On the 23rd I asked two of my English employees- "Do you know what day it is?" "Tues...Wed???...na!" "It's St Georges Day!" " O I woundered why I saw a couple of flags..." said one. ![]() ![]() Good grief! |

A mass variety of food and music though ebulgery, that i like.
It`s just the numbers of foreign workers that are challenging the British low skilled for vacancies. It used to be the case that if you was on a low wage you could grab some overtime at a better rate. Less chance now of that as there is an abundance supply of labour out there for employers. This benefits business but not the low skilled Brit, and this was Labours biggest crime in my eyes. Jack Straw now tells us that Labour under estimated 10xfold. Oh well, so the low skilled are scraping around with the foreign workers now for factory jobs. Great, super smashing. Look what you could have won! But lets not discuss this because it`s racist. |

![]() I don't think any of our governments do us any favours tbh It is amazing how hard we human beings find it, to get someone capable of governing us... I suppose that is why heredity hung on for so long We can find people good at just about everything, but good leaders?, this is so hard, even though no special skill is required our voting system does not guarantee it, it seems pot luck ![]() |

By:
Obviously AG you must be very young.
The battle was lost in the 80's. Thatcher smashing industry in an ideological war to destroy the unions and anti union legislation led us to this point by the 90's. No powerful industries. No powerful unions. The only remaining powerful unions remained in the public sector and people like Bob Crow could bring the Capital to a standstill. Public sector workers maintained descent levels of pay pensions etc. Those left in the private sector are too fragmented, too small, too private for their cry of- "We can't live on this minimumum wage zero hours contracts!" Like the Tories give a ****!People like you are an absolute phucking disgrace blaming immigrants and used by extreme right wingers. As they did blaming union memebership for all Britains ills in the 80's. Idiots like you fell for it and sucked it up in the 80's destroying the working mans bargaining power. Germany and France still have their industries and strong unions and as a result a much higher standard of living. Go vote for ex Tory extremist nutters like Farage and Hamilton and in power see how high they place your concerns about the cost of living. With their one third reduction on tax for the super rich. And after the immigrants, who wouldn't come here to a fascist **** to save their lives. |
|
By:
Oh dear you are back defending the unions again Northern Lad
destroyed my faith in socialism they did, they spent most of their time blackmailing the rest of us have you any idea of the disruption they caused..no power, no trains, no petrol, no papers, no telly, no milk, no anything all at regular intervals...and they crippled our industry |
|
By:
it was the unions brought Thatcher into power, people had had enough
|
|
By:
For all that I was sorry that the miners lost, destroyed a whole way of life
but you see it was a battle who was the most powerful in the land... Thatcher or Scargill??????? whoever won we were going to lose....sad no compromise could be reached ![]() |
|
By:
No the Tories and right wing media had had enough.
"Bodies are not being buried" [/i[i]]"There is so much rubbish in the streets" They shrieked. Well you go and bury them and clean up, or pay a descent phecking wage for others to do it! eG your just a total brain dead Tory establishment arse wipe! |
|
By:
I voted for Jim Callaghan in 1980
It was not just the Tory press, we all had to live through the 'winter of discontent' it did happen..the government could not afford to pay them Lad, the unions should have accepted that??????? I bet you was a union member lad , printers union at a guess, who knows????your last line, you have let yourself down again ![]() I shall await my opportunity to take the p.... out of you again, never fear ![]() |
|
By:
"it did happen..the government could not afford to pay them Lad, the unions should have accepted that???????"
Course they couldn't eG. They could afford Trident and 10% of GDP to the Americans for defence capability, not to mention relief to India, Pakistan nuclear powers etc, to big it up on the world stage, but not to workers a descent wage to bury the dead and clean our streets. Problem with the proletariat Karl - so many phecking ignorant arse wipes! |
|
By:
"I had to live through the winter of discontent!"
![]() ![]() ![]() Poor you! If UKip ever came to power unproductive people like you will have to live and die in their new Auschwitz! |
|
By:
Northern lad is so correct. In his 2.33 post.
I was born in the 50's - I've grown up through the following decades . Some of us were there and saw at first hand what happened during the Thatcher years.. And here we are today with the Tories once again destroying the fabric of our society by their divisive tactics. Creating an ever widening gap between the haves and the have nots. The issues and the problems are not benefit cheaters or immigration, this is all smoke and mirrors. Look up to see what's happening, not down. Don't fall for the Tory/UKIP propaganda |
|
By:
the gap between the haves and have nots has been getting bigger consistently for years regardless of government... pretty much everywhere in the world.
The only difference I see between Labour and Tories is where the safety net is for those who are less financially well off. |
|
By:
Even though Labour through Jack Straw admits there was an over supply of immigrants by 10 x fold he fails to admit this, and this is where he puts up his own brick wall of denial.
Thatcher handed over public assets to private investors. Blair/Brown brought in an influx of foreign competition for the low-skilled vacancies. The working man sold down the swanny/The low skilled - worker sold down the swanny. I acknowledge both. There Are you suggesting that Jack Straw is talking nonsense? Even though the Labour politicians would all admit the Party made mistakes on immigration NOBODY is allowed to mention it because THATCHER destroyed the unions? walofs Blinded by your tribalness NLad. |
|
By:
Because immigration can be a good thing, an in some cases necessary to establish
a country does not mean it is always so. If we look at America there are huge problems with legal and illegal immigration. The entire state of California which has been the worlds leader in science and art in the last century is destroying itself and mass immigration is destroying it. Once you invent multi-culturalism and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture history shows that no nation can survive the tension. History also shows that all great nations create suicide. The remarkable success of America in the 19 and 20 century, multi ethnic and multi cultural was achieved not by tolerance but by cultural imperialism. It is most likely that there will never be another scientific or musical/artistic invention to come out of California. |

The BNP have never been a credible force in British politics no matter what the bluster and for a party like UKIP to align themselves with any BNP policy would be absolutely stupid.
BNP's views of 'Britishness' are based on an ill-defined vagueness about racial history (purity) and breeding. UKIP's are based on buying into core values, irrespective of where one was born or ones genetic stamp. Whilst many of what I guess is the Betfair demographic grew up with and are, in general, confident in a multicultural society, it has to be faced that an older generation are, generally, not. Debate the rights and wrongs of this if you like, but these baby-boomers have the numbers and it makes sense for UKIP to address the world they are having to face - and if they can bring along a few dispossessed younger working class voters and the 'generally hacked off with politicians and so haven't voted' brigade too, there's some momentum for you |
|
By:
Facts seem to agree with you Northern Lad...doubt that is a plus
Socialism only works if everybody co operates If you force it on people... you have Communism If nobody co operates you have Capitalism What happened in 70's was not the Tory press..it happened..I was there The Tory arswipes were in fact the Unions and people like you N.Lad who thought socialism meant you grab what you like, f u to everybody else as I said I still wanted the miners to win..but they had managed to get themselves such a good wage it was cheaper to import coal than to dig it out of the ground ourselves but in that strike I was on their side...I knew Thatcher would have too much power if she won I have always voted Labour |
|
By:
It was not only the anti union laws have been used against unions, so have computers
Employers automate everything they can, computers cannot go on strike Which brings us back to immigration, we will need less workers in the future, not more |
|
By:
No wrong again!
Cameron set up his own think tank to look into the immigration question - The Office For Budgetary Responsibility. Did they conclude that Britain would need far fewer immigrants? No! They concluded that Britain would need 7 million more up to 2050. Fact! |
|
By:
yes just to care for our own aging population
they themselves will grow old of course, so we will need even more the question is, how on earth are we going to afford this it will put intolerable burdens on the young we need another solution imo |
|
By:
The 7 million figure was more to do with keeping the National Debt/borrowing at a sustainable level.
7 million more tax payers/more coffers in the Treasury. But where is the finishing line? Exponential growth on a tiny island until thing goes pop? Will the financial elite have colonised Mars by then? waving farewell, so long losers!? ![]() |
