By:
off 80s album but released as single in 90s
|
|
By:
Yes,I've just checked on wiki. It wasn't released as a single until 1997 so Debaser qualifies.
The two people who said their lists were in no particular order, each single will be given 5 points. |

By:
should be 5½ points each

I've deliberately set it below the average as a punishment for not putting them in order.

fine work anubis - very well done mate
![]() some fantastic tracks in this 40 and impeccable taste from the 'chatters' , surprising results at the top though - 2 clear favourites ? i don't understand how this could ever be so in such a great decade ...and Smells like teen spirit at 2 ? I would hesitate to even enter it in a Nirvana top 40 ![]() Look forward to the 00s |

massive respect/thanks to anubis as always

Smells like teen spirit at 2 ?
I would hesitate to even enter it in a Nirvana top 40 did they have 40 singles ? |
|
By:
A high quality top 40. I thought that Smells Like Teen Spirit would catch Unfinished Sympathy but it kept getting votes and finished well ahead. It was actually released under the shortened name Massive due to the Gulf War taking place at the time.
The Radiohead and Oasis votes were split across several songs which might be part of the reason there was a gap between the top 2 and the rest. |
|
By:
Well done Anubis, personally good to see a great track like Enjoy The Silence get such a strong vote as Depeche Mode don't get the recognition I think they deserve.
|
|
By:
Degs , no - but they notched up more than 40 tracks which are all arguably better than SLTS
![]() Charts like this can be in danger of becoming 'cliched' of course |
|
By:
not that i have a particular problem with Joy Division or the Stone Roses

Maybe, maybe not, but these polls were about singles. I think many of the selections were actually peoples favourite album tracks, hoping they'd been released as singles. And I'd own up to being guilty of that myself. Regardless, great work again Anubis7 |
|
By:
Thanks. The final poll will cover 2000-2014 and will start a week on Saturday.

Degs ,i'd say Definitely maybe

I was surprised i was the only one to vote for The KLF
I know it's hard to get their music anymore because they deleted it all..but i really think those first 3 singles stand the test of time. and as for their TOTP performances... HAVE IT ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
What Time is Love by the KLF was a killer tune, but the best version was probably the original 80s release.
Great to see Massive Attack score more than the two Gallagher singles combined. Well played Chit Chat and Good work Anubis. |
|
By:
I heard Sade's - 'Diamond Life' for the first time in ages tonight.
Out of curiosity (and if it's not a hassle?) did she get any votes for anything in the 80s or 90s polls, Anubis7? |

I've thrown the 80s poll figures out Poppy,so I don't know if Sade got any votes but I don't remember her getting any. No one voted for her in the 90s but female singers as a whole don't do well in these polls.
I was surprised Blur performed badly. Just 3 points for To The End and 5 points for Coffee and TV. No votes at all for Song 2 or Parklife or anything else. |
