sorry to hear this kenbo, I hope things do improve for both of you
|
By:
Very sorry to hear that about Mrs kenbo, how long have you been together?
|
By:
Sorry to hear that kembo - hope she gets better soon - how old is she.

keep me informed, I am a Physical Therapist and have plenty of experience treating C4 injuries
have they done an MRI scan? If not, insist on one, this is the best way to know for sure whether the nerve damage is serious if it is a subluxation (movement of vertebrae) and there is metrely pressure on the nerve then manipulation by an Osteopath may be possible to put the joint back in place and remove the pressure if that is the case, and there is no severe damage, then full recovery can be made in 6 to 18 weeks normally, so do not panic staying very still indeed is crucial at this stage wishing you and your wife all the best, rest assured all is not lost watch for the return of movement in the hands, fingers and shoulders, that will be the first sign of healing |

best wishes to you and your missus
|
By:
She's 48 and we've been together for 8 years.
Rick the MRI scan was where they picked the damage up from. He called it something like 'fart?'. I've googled everything to do with spines and different variations of the word fart. Does that mean anything to you? Thanks for the good wishes chaps. |
By:
try to keep strong mate, and give your wife all your support so that she can make a speedy recovery. Really hope things turn out ok - must be an horrendous time
|
By:
Also Rick, she can't move her arms and leg, but she can feel that she is being touched.
|
By:
great, good news, ok so they will be giving her meds now and keeping her still
72 hours from incident is the normal window, stay relaxed til then and keep her calm and still - v.important! she has an excellent chance of making recovery acupunture can be very useful in accelerating nerve healing once she is on the way |
By:
It may be spinal infarction. Not that I know fa just overheard the phrase.
|
By:
yes she still has nerve and skin sensation which is good news, indicates there is an open neural pathway
be reassured the odds are good |
By:
She is on some sort of steroids.
I am constantly dragging her up in her bed so that she can sit up. I will have to stop that then. Thanks Rick, your posts have given me that bit of hope that i was after. |
By:
Having googled that Dobbo you could be right. I hope not though after reading a bit about it.
The Dr did say it was a very rare case. |
By:
Hopefully, S.K, it is just temporary.
I think it could be Spinal Cord Infarction you're looking for (Doctors call it a "farct"). It affects different people in different ways, my fingers are crossed for you. Don't shy away from asking doctors about ANYTHING you're not sure about. I hope she's better soon and you can get back to normal, or at least very near to it. |

Dont scare yourself on the internet. It really is a waste of time. The chances are your wife will recover.good luck to you.

All the best Kenbo.

Kenbo I said dont scare yourself on the web but it can be useful. Three years ago I was diagnosed with a very rare tumour and I was put down for surgery but I was not happy with the surgeon or with anything he said but the condition was so rare I couldn't get a second opinion. I scoured the net looking for experts in the field and emailed them with questions. One particular consultant who was based at the Chelsea hospital actually telephoned me and advised me to find a new surgeon. He emailed me with his detailed opinion of my situation and eventually referred me to a top London consultant who did the job. You can just ask people and most of the time they will respond. If your wifes condition is rare the more info you have the better it will be.
