"Why didn't anyone think of that before? It's so stupid, it's positively brilliant"

Although rob_dylan beat me to it by correctly answering with The Great Escape, might I just add a bit of detail as we are of course talking about my favourite ever film. The line was uttered by Gordon Jackson's character Sandy McDonald after hearing of Hilts' and Ives' (ultimately unsuccessful) escape plan which entailed burrowing under the perimeter wire like a mole, assisted by some sort of spring loaded breathing device. Ironically, despite rebuking the character Haynes for being trapped into speaking English while the potential escapees were practising their roles, it was McDonald himself who was similarly trapped by the Gestapo officer while he (McDonald) and Richard Attenborough's character Bartlett (based on the real life Roger Bushell) were boarding a bus.

No matter how often I watch The Great Escape, I am overwhelmed with sadness for the loss of the lives of the 50 Allied officers who were butchered in cold blood by the Gestapo, SS and their ilk (the Luftwaffe officers running the POW camp from which the escape took place were appalled and correctly disassociated themselves from this outrage). For anyone interested, there is a fascinating biography on the life of "Big X" Roger Bushell, who was one of the 50. Several of those who carried out the atrocity or conspired to do so rightly got theirs at the end of the hangman's rope.
