Upstream Color by Shane Carruth...

"I have to apologize. I was born with a disfigurement where my head is made of the same material as the sun, which makes it impossible for you to look directly at me. It has always been this way"

Impossible to do it justice in a synopsis but suffice to say an incredible film made all the more incredible for the fact that Carruth wrote, directed, starred in, composed the score for and distributed it!

trailer... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDrPsekEwPs

give it a go Cool

I've heard Upstream Color mentioned a few times on here now, I have watched the trailer and it probably doesn't do the film justice. I will watch it this week to see what all the fuss is about.

to be fair its probably me that keeps mentioning it. It's certainly a film to make you think. Been panned a bit on IMDB so obviously not everyone's cup of tea but I loved it. There's elements of David Lynch to it so if you like that kind of movie you'll probably enjoy it. His first film 'Primer' is really worth searching out to..phew that one takes multiple watches to work out though

Last Vegas

1hr 30min‎‎ - Rated 12A‎‎ - Comedy‎‎ - English‎
Director: Jon Turteltaub - Cast: Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Kevin Kline, Mary Steenburgen, Jerry Ferrara, Romany Malco, Roger Bart
Billy, Paddy, Archie, and Sam have been best friends since childhood. So when Billy, the group's sworn bachelor, finally proposes to his thirty-something (of course) girlfriend, the four head to Las Vegas with a plan to stop acting their age and relive their glory days. However, upon arriving , the four quickly realize that the decades have transformed Sin City and tested their friendship in ways they never imagined. The Rat Pack may have once played the Sands and Cirque du Soleil may now rule the Strip, but it's these four who are taking over Vegas.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this and there are plenty of laugh out loud moments.Morgan Freeman has the best funny moment that we all agreed we didn't see coming. It's comedy so I guess some will think it's rubbish but we all enjoyed it.

just watched Spike Jonze's latest "Her" starring the excellent Joaquin Pheonix as a lonely divorcee who falls in love with his Operating System. A really really good film, like all the best science fiction it shines a light on the human condition and everything it entails...can't recommend it enough.

I saw an Icelandic film recently called Angels of the Universe, went into it blind as I hadn't heard anything about it but it was one of the best films I've seen in years, it's from 2000.

I also had the misfortune to be subjected to 'Last Love', starring Michael Caine recently, and it was absolutely torturous.

Lone Survivor ~ Based on a true story, but typical Hollywood makeover makes it pretty much unbelievable at times. A good enough war film once you accept that it is more fiction than fact. 7/10

Inside Llewyn Davis ~ If you like music and films by the  Coen Brothers you will adore this film 9/10

This is the End ~ a comedy from a couple of years ago which I finally got around to watching, The Emma Watson raping scene is hilarious. 8/10

Horrible Bosses ~ an slightly above average American comedy, notable in the fact the Jennifer Anniston plays a sex maniac with a filthy mouth Blush 6/10

Were The Millers ~ an average American comedy, notable in the fact that Jennifer Anniston does a pole dancing routine Blush 5/10

oh yeah

12 Years a Slave ~ too long and didn't really offer anything new to the whole slave film genre. Some uncomfortable and moving scenes but I found myself getting bored at times which is usually a good indicator of an Oscar winning film, 7/10

Must admit it did offer something new to me. I'd never learnt of a trade in kidnapping free blacks from outside the slave states and selling them off to the plantations. Solomon Northup appears to have been quite a figure in the abolitionist movement. Surprised they hadn't made a film about him a long time ago. Thought Fassbender was very good. Reminded me a bit of Fiennes as Amon Goeth.

Woman at place i work went to watch 12 years a slave said it was very emotional.Sat next to her was a black man who she said sobbed throughout a lot of the film.when her and her husband left the cinema she said to her husband "wait here a minute i just want to go and apologise to that black man for the way we have treated him".Needless to say he just pulled her out the cinema before she could say anything Laugh

The Perks of Being A Wallflower- On DVD based on a recommendation and I really enjoyed it. A growing up movie set in America starring Emma Watson. Reminde me of being a teen and watching films like St Elmos Fire.

Saw the Railway Man last week a very good film, certainly makes you think.
