I didnt read much about the stafford stuff clunge. Like I say, I doubt the motives of people(and I like Gervais)who moan about the NHS... Do they want it to improve or do they just want rid of it? Means attacking th NHS can be an easy target for the left and right strains of the media.

You are so wedded to your prejudices(nicked that line from my local tory MP youll be pleased to know) that you are unable to look at a programme like this rationally... That kevin bloke character is needless and doesnt help his point at all.

Gervais kept slipping out of the character's voice. No real story. Very poor.
I think he did ok in other shows because he was more or less being himself |

Only 8 minutes in and I'd agree it isn't joke a minute funny. Intriguing though, and he's no need whatsoever to make a show like this.

I'm a fan of Ricky,just watched 15 minutes of it and have to say I switched over.Uncomfortable viewing and ffs his pal Karl was just being himself who I find very unfunny anyway so a big NO for me.

Finished watching the first episode. There are multiple points made, but the most original, to me, was that odd, anti-social people, aren't necessarily the annoyance they appear to be. I know a guy, who for three years annoyed the hell out of me. I'd run a promotional stall and, perhaps sensing I couldn't walk away, he'd come and talk at me, very, very slowly, for ages and ages, no matter how little interest I showed. I genuinely used to dread seeing him. Over time though, his relentless good will broke me, and he's now a good mate (I just make sure I'm a bit drunk when I'm with him). His boss's boss used to be Ricky Gervais's boss, and he told me how awkward Gervais was around people. The end of that first episode, it looks to me like someone socially awkward coming back to fight for his team, rather than mocking them from on high.
Will watch the second one now, found the first very moving. |

watched it for the first time last night, not comfortable viewing, bit depressing, but have to say I thought it was rather good.

Only seen trailers but looks exactly the same unfunny Gervais character to me, just a different haircut. As you can tell, I'm not a fan of the emperor's new clothes, so I won't be watching. OTOH, I have heard that there are some genuinely funny moments in An Idiot Abroad, so I need to check that out sometime.

Taking a bit more interest in this than i normally would, as ironically my Dad went into a private rest home
in the same week as the 1st episode was shown. Just watched the 2nd one, and agree Gervais is pretty poor, but overall its OK, and will watch again. Its a TV comedy(sort of), so i expect a fair bit of poetic licence, but from what ive seen of my Dads home so far, most can barely walk, let alone dance, and the drunk bloke wouldnt be allowed within a mile of the place. |

Gervais is not the main star in this his role is fairly perriphial seeing as the series is named after his character.
I enjoyed Lifes Too Short,thought Warwick Davies was v good,again Gervais only a minor character in that as well. He's never gonna recreate another office but id say he performs at a good 7/10 most of the time and thats miles ahead of any other of our comedy people imo (coogan aside) |

Its not a documentary. Its either funny or not. It is in parts and not in others, If you like it carry on watching it, if not go to the pub or watch something else, RG couldna give a toss.

it could be far better with another actor playing the Gervais role. He is very unconvincing in his portrayal of the role he's attempting.

Just watched the first two episodes on 4OD - think it is excellent and well observed. I have met someone like Derek( brother of a friend ) who ended up in a home were my sister was a care assistant. Like Derek he didn't have a sense of humour but his behaviour and manerisms were sometimes funny. He was obsessive and could remember everything but outside of a home very vulnerable.
Anyone who takes it all literally and says such and such a thing would never happen is lacking in imagination IMO. The end of the party where the residents were all dancing to music was funny and moving at the same time. Inside all old people is trapped a person who is forever sixteen and I thought that came across at the end. As DONMYLOT says if you don't like it don't watch it. I'll be tuning in for the rest of the series. |

 RG portrayl of a social outcast,who by no means stupid has no concept of humour etc is an excellent one i'd say.True you don't see as many "semi loons" out and about these days but it's a v moving show imo. |

He's on in a few minutes. I'm not entirely convinced of his portrayal of someone with a learning disability but I am enjoying it. |

Karl should be sacked for taking peoples belongings from their rooms and sending them to the jumble sale, without them knowing. It's called theft!

Very moving episode ...Gervais deserves all the acclaim going for writing this outstanding drama...anyone with ageing parents cannot fail to be moved .
