The one that always sticks out in my mind, partly because you wouldn't expect it to be so high, is the Chelsea v Leeds FA Cup replay in 1970 which is no. 6

I dont know how they went about measuring it, but i can imagine that everyone, whether they had a tv or not, made an effort to watch it.  Dunno if they showed it in pubs or did people that didnt have tvs all go round a neighbours house who did have tv?

Really? I actually thought that might be 3 or 4 (due to smaller population and possible less widespread TV ownership)

I watched that till the 90 min was up & my mum sent me to bed Cry

For the 66 final I still don't know to this day if I watched it or not, do not remember but that does not mean I did not watch it.

Remember, in those days most working class people couldn't think of owning a tv, so renting them was very popular and widespread by '66.

JR shot is 16th on the programme but presumably much lower when you include sporting and royal events.  Tenth on the "events" list is the news broadcast of JFKs death.  That was fifty years ago, I thought tv was very rare back then so I would really like to know how they counted these figures up.

This is still unanswered:

A very random question

The first televised nine-dart finish at the World Championship was in 1990 by Paul Lim.who was his opponent?

NO GOOGLING

It isn't Keith Deller or Leighton Reese

My latest guess is Dave Whitcombe

Would have thought England v W Ger 1970 and Liverpool v Bayern Munich (EC Final 1977) might be high up

Great stuff, Roy.

If you're interested, they did a bit of a tribute to Jocky Wilson and Sid Waddell onn BBC2 darts this afternoon.

Scroll across to 1:20:00 - it's on for about 10 mins or so:

Ha! Sorry Rob, I was going to save it for my next 'Mr Nibbs Extravaganza' for the horsey chaps, but I'll think of another one for then (it's still a work in progress, by the way - although it hasn't progressed for about 2 months!)

Which 'town' won the 1873 Derby?
By:
Tommy Toes
When: 09 Jan 13 20:41
Well done Colly! I remember thinking he must be the 'bet of the season for the Leger' after his Derby run, but didn't back him at 6/4 (I think he was on the day) as the odds were too short for me.
By:
collywobble
When: 09 Jan 13 20:43
Yes Tommy, wasn't much to brag about, but it was the best horse in the race, couldn't see it getting beat and for once I was right.
By:
Tommy Toes
When: 09 Jan 13 20:46
Nor me, Colly (couldn't see him being beat) and in hindsight I should have backed him - even though he was so short.
Still, hindsight is a wonderful thing, eh?!
