I have read two books that were recommended from this forum and now i am looking for a third.

Book 1: Masters of Death: The SS-Einsatzgruppen and the Invention of the Holocaust Richard Rhodes

A chilling book but well worth a read.

Book 2: Inside The Third Reich Albert Speer

Man seven hundred pages. Once you get through the early parts about architecture this book is very good. Some of Hitler's quotes and comments are classic.

For book three i'm looking for a decent account of the eastern front. Any suggestions?

If you haven`t read it before, you must read The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich by William L Shirer, if you are interested in the period.

Shirer a top choice , also his Berlin Diaries ..... read about his commentary from Compiegne at the French surrender , despite no foreign journalists being allowed.

Hitlers Table Talk is fascinating - Martin Boorman arranged for a stenographer to be present after dinner during the war when Hitler would sit and chat with his generals about all sorts of things - very interesting stuff

He's a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

Nowhere Man please listen,
You don't know what you're missing,
Nowhere Man,the world is at your command!

(lead guitar)

He's as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?

Nowhere Man, don't worry,
Take your time, don't hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
lends you a hand!

Doesn't have a point of view,
Knows not where he's going to,
Isn't he a bit like you and me?

Nowhere Man please listen,
you don't know what you're missing
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command!

He's a real Nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans

This is the place where I sit
This is the part where I love you too much
This is as hard as it gets
'Cause I'm getting tired or pretending I'm tough
I'm here if you want me
I'm yours you can hold me
I'm empty and taking and tumbling and braking

[Chorus] :
'Cause you don't see me
And you don't need me
And you don't love me
The way I wish you would
The way I know you could

I dream a world where you understand
That I dream a million sleepless nights
But I dream a fire when you're touching my hand
But it twists into smoke when I turn on the lights

Just rediscovered it.  The Invisible Flag by Peter Bamm.  German army doctor on the eastern front.  Slight antidote to the utter horror.  Essential reading for those who think there is still some hope for the human race.

Len Deighton's Blood, Tears and Folly is the most eye-opening history book I have ever read about the period.

It restricts itself generally to the 1939-41 period, and the events of the preceding decades and centuries which led men all over the planet to act with such stupidity 70 years ago.

Every single page provides a revelation or some new insight which makes you think, "I never knew that," or "that puts a different slant on things."

Shirer, as mentioned earlier. Guderian an interesting read given what we know now about blitzkrieg. I haven't read ' Mein Kampf'.. but according to those that have it's  virtualy unreadable.

Not about the Eastern Front and you've probably read this already, but am currently reading "Agent Zigzag" by Ben MacIntyre. An enthralling read, even though I have seen elements of the story before on TV.

Book 4:Joseph Goebbels: Life and Death

I did read this book but it was a tough read and just about worth it. You have to be a fan of WWII to get into this though. Was it really nearly three years since i ordered this. Fecking A. I think it took me nearly six months to read after some stop starting.

Book 5 :Mein Kampf - The Official 1939 Edition (Third Reich from Original Sources)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1908538694?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

I've just ordered this book and i eagerly await its delivery. As a huge fan of the Fuhrer it is a must that i read this book and i regret not doing so earlier in my life. I look forward to the hilarious quotes and summing up that only Hitler can do. It seems that there are one or two versions of Mein Kampf but this edition is supposed to be one of the better English translations.

I will post my thought on reading this book.
