I know what you mean, Tommy!

That's the place, Muntz.
They used to hold a big open air market there in the 70s on a Sunday. It was 'the' place to go for quite a while. Sorry the previous post didn't read well: I'm sorry she died and I'm glad you still have her picture on the wall. |
By:
Anyone else since, Muntz?
By:
Thanks Bill.
Don't feel bad about reminding me of her, by the way! |
By:
Somebody since, but it didn't last all that long, though we see each other now and again.
By:
Anyway, Bill, best wishes for tomorrow. Choose your tie with care!
By:
I once lost somebody. Somebody told me you only ever get one chance and that's if you're lucky. Do you believe that?
By:
That's brought back some happy memories for me too, Muntz,
Eccleshall market was where I bought my best mate a tankard for Christmas when we were about 16. I had it inscribed for him. I wonder if he still has it?... |
By:
Or, it might have been for his birthday. I'm afraid it was so long ago, it's in black and white!
By:
No, I don't. I suppose the danger for me is that I will compare someone with Nicola, even if only subconsciously. Nobody would be quite the same, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't be able to make a match.

nite guys :)

The saddest line written is supposed to be:
For sale: Baby shoes. Never worn. The saddest picture painted is supposed to be: An old, thin man sitting on a single bed, facing out into a dark room. On the wall behind him is a painting of a beautiful girl. I think it's called Loneliness but I'm not sure. |

Is Drake Hall still a prison, Tommy?
By:
G'night, GT
By:
goodnight GT - didn't see you there!
By:
Goodnight GT
Glad you won on Nanton - I'm afraid I didn't have a bean on! Great performance from the old 'oss - and Goldie's interview was great too. |
By:
Both are very sad, Bill.
I don't know, Muntz. I haven't been to Eccleshall for years. My dentist used to be there, though, and I remember seeing the sign for Swynnerton many times on my way there and thinking about 'Eccleshall market'. |
By:
It's a lovely little place (Eccleshall) and a lovely drive down the country lanes to it.
There a falcon recue sanctuary there which I've always intended visiting but never have yet. |

By:
Falcons are great. Have you ever seen one poised, just ready to swoop?
By:
My cousin from Stone used to give me a lift to Drake Hall from Stone
railway station to visit Nicola, Tommy. I never got round to asking - what is the connection between Izaak Walton (Compleat Angler) and Stone? |
By:
Time to lighten the mood a bit . . .

By:
Walton's cottage was at Shallowford near Stone
By:
Thanks Bill - are you from that neck of the woods too?
By:
I've seen kestrels and sparrowhawks in the field here do so, Bill.
Falcons are great birds. The people who run the sanctuary used to visit Hanley (the main town here) sometimes with a couple of them when they were fund raising. I never saw them, though. Muntz, I'm just trying to think of the connection. |
By:
That's it, Bill!
There's a restaurant by the same name somewhere near there too, which I once visited. |
By:
Great link, Muntz!
By:
It's really juvenile, isn't it, Tommy? It still makes me laugh, though.
By:
No, Muntz, I'm from wooly Worcestshire. I like a bit of fishing, though. Mind you, I've never tried hanging a dead sheep over the river for a fortnight like old Izaak recommends.
By:
Ah! So the pub is full of Midlanders again!
By:
I'll have you know I'm very nearly Welsh.
By:
I'm partly Welsh (and partly English, and Irish, and Scottish)
By:
Half Irish, for me.

Just come across this on youtube . . .

Will she tell us how she did it next Friday?
By:
She had the machines off me!
By:
I was thinking that, Tommy, but didn't like to say.
By:
Very possibly, Bill, but most of us won't understand her explanation.
By:
G'night, gents. I need my beauty sleep. And how.
By:
Goodnight Bill.
Hope it all goes very, very well tomorrow (later). |
