Tommy made it his, Sparky. He was serving on the first page.
(Mind you, the mini-skirted skating raised a few eyebrows, but still...) |
By:
not sure what made me think of this but this is for the old place.

Good evening Tommy : re: songs with tantalising fade-outs, like 'Heroes and Villains'... . I love this song, but Macca was very cruel to fade it when he did

Tommy

I was, as you rightly guessed, emptying the cellar at the time Sparky (B-B was in)!
When he called and said he was from Betfair I was expecting it to be one of those survey things they sometimes do, but no, he said it was about the pub! |

Virgil Caine is the name and I served on the Danville train
'Til Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive By May the tenth, Richmond had fell It's a time I remember, oh so well The night they drove old Dixie down And the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down And the people were singing They went, "La, la, la" Back with my wife in Tennessee, when one day she called to me "Virgil, quick, come see, there go the Robert E.Lee" Now I don't mind choppin' wood, and I don't care if the money's no good Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest But they should never have taken the very best The night they drove old Dixie down And the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down And all the people were singing They went, "La, la, la" Like my father before me, I will work the land And like my brother above me, who took a rebel stand He was just eighteen, proud and brave, but a Yankee laid him in his grave I swear by the mud below my feet You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat The night they drove old Dixie down And the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down And all the people were singing They went, "Na, na, na" The night they drove old Dixie down And all the bells were ringing The night they drove old Dixie down And the people were singing They went, "Na, na, na" |

Goodbye old friend!
Will do Big Charlie. |
By:
All right, Tommy, you can tell us now. How much did you get for it?
By:
Right, I have snapped my favourite pool cue in half, and I would like to keep the chunky half in the rack to be used on the heads of certain gentlemen if they turn up here,

Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered. A sore day... a red day... ere the sun rises."

G'night, Bodil. Dream well.
By:
I don't think so, O.
The chap from Betfair said that the new forum would be starting in either October or November and they were hoping it would hold unlimited posts on the same thread without causing any trouble. |
By:
He's a clever barstard, that Bodil. Don't take his bets.
By:
Goodnight Bodil.
By:
hang on Tommy, so...in theory...it could be resurrected?

We're making history tonight, lads. In years to come, blokes from Bradford will wander in here and say: feck me, it's crashing my rice crispies. Shut it down!
And they will. |
By:
That's a thought, Sparky!
I never asked him about that, but as I said at the time on the original thread, he didn't know whether or not the tech lads would be able to 'lock' it but they'd do their best. So perhaps when the new forum starts we can try and resurrect it and see what happens? |
By:
I'm off to bed.
Goodnight all. |
By:
Goodnight Big Charlie.
By:
It still appears, preserved in aspic, on gubbed
Threads appear on there in the order of their creation, with the most recent at the top You can access it by typing in "First Chit Chat Pub" or "Don Giovani" The second of those will bring up far fewer threads |
By:
Goodnight Charlie
By:
Good work Tomster, seriously they CALLED you...that's WAY impressice!
By:
G'night, Charlie
By:
Oh well. All good things come to an end.
Nostalgia - it's not what it used to be... Let's start afresh. Sparky - How did the industrial refuse disposal go? |
By:
I've just checked to see it myself.
Thanks Betfair. |
