Do you think winkle you could leave this thread alone, just this one, from your only obsession.  There are so many other threads you feel are relevant to your sole concern in life.

Forty-love, (love)
Oh, eases Fed's mind
Muzza needs a line shout
Someone to call OUT!

His mama said, "You can't hurry, love
No, you'll just have to wait"
She said, "Slams don't come easy
But it's a game when you give breaks

No Grand Slams Murray (love)
No, you'll just have to wait
Just don't miss the base line
No matter how long it takes

How many heartaches must he stand
Before he finds the slam to let him smile again
Right now the only thing that keeps him hanging on
Is his super serve, oh, even that has gone

But remember mama said, "You can't hurry, love
No, you'll just have to wait"
She said, "Slams don't come easy
But it's a game when you give breaks

How long must he wait
How much more must he take
Being trophiless
Will cause his heart, heart to break

And Federer, beats him up 3-1
He grows impatient for a win, at Wimbledon
But when he feels that he, he can't go on
He gets precious support, from Betfair's Journeyman

And remember mama said, "You can't hurry, love

could very well still be NIL this time next year really

has not done well at USO since making the final in 2008 and I doubt entirely he can win this year
extremely unlikely to ever win the French

so that leaves the Oz where he has made two finals and Wimby where he's made 1

yes so not expecting the thread to close in the next 12 months really

In the past the insane pressure that is heaped on Murray at Wimbledon (the Fred Perry and Bunny Austin ghosts etc) have menat he wasn't best prepared for the US open, but I think that this is where Lendl can really earn his money.

After all Murray played some great stuff at Wimbledon and if Ivan can make sure he keeps the momentum throughout the Olympics and onto Flushing Meadow that might be the rusty key that opens the box of dreams.

the key is raising performance, or even just maintaining, at the crucial moments in the big match

that means, by sheer will, converting one of the two break points at 4-4 or holding serve from 30-0 up

had he done that and won that set this thread would read ONE in all probability

it's in his mind where the barriers lie else he would not drop his first serve percentage so much

You can't win these points by sheer will. The Swiss bloke on the other side of the net is a factor as well

nadal does it lots of times

it's about creating a state within your mind, relaxing, visualising, producing your very best when it is most needed

murray can't do that - he tightens up and under performs. Also did it in the SF vs Djoko at the Oz Open, had break points at 2-3 in the 4th set and could not convert

it is a pattern of behaviour that has persisted for a long time and is the real reason he has failed so often

of course, no one has to believe or agree with me but I wrote this same argument nearly 5 years ago on both the old BBC tennis forum and Andy Murrays own forum - that this pattern would continue

And I still predict that it will unless he manages to face a player of lower calibre in a slam final

you probably think this is just mumbo jumbo and that's fair enough if you do but for me it explains it perfectly

or indeed he could just be facing superior players (that he has beaten in other matches)

I still predict that he will continue to fail in the big matches, as I did in 2009, and he will remain slamless

judorick - this tightening up thing is exactly right.  I have a theory that he may win one late on in his career though.

A number of British tennis players had remarkable purple patches once they turned 30; John Lloyd and Jeremy Bates being a couple.  (I do not, for a minute by the way, put them any where near Murray's class in case journeyman comes after me).

I suspect it was because they loosened up, enjoyed their tenis a bit more and let the racket fly with a bit more fun about them.  I am certain Murray's problem is that he gets tight when it matters.

Growing older might help that, perhaps a marriage or a child as well to add perspective.  Tennis is at the end of the day, a game.  And a bit more distance from his mum would be good - I am certain she is a hindrance.

Oh, and the answer currently is:

Arise, oh People, your splendid sword
That strikes with sparkles of God,
There is no middle ground between free or slave
And an abyss divides the two.
In the gentle breezes the Hymn resounds,
Repeating with triumphal echo:
For the free, renowned glory!
For the Fatherland, immortal laur-NIL!
