psst (2)...It wasn't the French, the US open, the Australian Open or Wimbeldon and therefore it wasn't a Slam and therefore no one cares..

Andy Muzza has won the Shanghai masters this morning against a guy generally considered the best ever player.

The Sibaronis of the world can't even find it in them to acknowledge that as being a pretty decent think to do.
Back to slagging the guy off within hours of him winning one of the ten or so most respected tournaments in the world.

Nothing but poison in the souls of some..

How did All the Englishmen do in the Shnghai Masters? oh sorry I remembered they only pick people to play in the competition if your in the top 100 and it would be absurd to believe that there are any Englishmen in the world's top 100.

I think Andy Murray was competing this week in Shanghai, your all such tennis experts on here so how did he do?

You say your players peak in the big tournaments, which competitions do your players actually qualify for? Are you talking about the Bognor Open, Sibaroni?

Journeyman and no moves must have gone through some tissues this morning watching Andy Murray...they wouldn't have been using them to wipe the tears from their eyes for once either.

For what it's worth I agree with DFMS.

I do apologise if I upset anybody earlier who is English by mentioning the word, tennis, I know it is a cause for  national disgrace in your country, I'd like to make it clear there was no offence intended by using this term.

To be fair I'm not too comfortable myself with this turning into a full on Scottish/English thing.
It stumbled along for a year and a half without turning down that alley.

It's more of an achievement vs envy thing. The poison that fuels Sibaroni isn't drawn from racial prejudice but from the well of personal failure.

My point is Journeyman that it was always was an anti Scottish thread although it may not have expicitly been stated as such.  Its my bet that 99% of the contributors on here are English, why should they pick specifically on Andy Murray rather than Nadal, Federer or a thousand other players?
By:
Journeyman
When: 17 Oct 10 14:00
I'm not denying that some pretty disspiritting racial stuff has raised its head throughout the thread, but I'm pretty sure that the original poster started it effectively as a wee dig at canaryboy, a passionate Murray fan who is English.

It took a turn for the worse when people started mentioning the Paraguay incident that never actually happened.

Now it's got to a point when folk are actually tumbling out of their Budweisser stained beds after hearing Murray has won an important tournament to belittle him as fast as possible on here.
I mean when was the last time a Brit won the Shanghai Masters? It's a great achievement. And for some reason people cannot bear that.

I don't like him Journeyman.  I support many a sportsman far wealthier than me - I am hardly in competition with them after all.  It is not a question of anything other than this,  his petulant and brattish behaviour is distasteful - he doesn't represent me.  He is a poor loser (despite practise at it). And I do take a certain pleasure from his failure in Grand Slams.

Sibaroni is pretty much spot on......
Murray comes across as a very poor loser with a morbid attitute who plays under a "flag of convenience" when it suits him.
The only people who raise the english/scottish thing are usually the bairn and no moves......probably a throw back from their football teams, both international (4,6,0 Laugh) and domestic, being hopeless.

Anyway as FFT would say.....this is not a discusion thread just a tally of Murray Slams which is currently NIL

Colin Hendry is Scottish and was outstanding as a sportsman.
He played with his heart on his sleave and never showed any arrogance or petulance despite his fame, fortune and ability.
He has conducted himself as a true gent even after retiring depite a turn of horrible circumstances in his private life.
In my eyes a TRUE legend!

Kilmurry is a great horse who's paid for my beer and pot noodles all weekend.

Murray is a marginally above average tennis player who's a sore loser a behaves like a 5 year old.

Colin Mongomery won the Ryder Cup for Europe, which is one of the great moments in sport, if not the great moment, this year.  Decent call for Sportsman of the Year, and would have my vote thus far.  And Journeyman, I am very comfortable with the fact he is far richer than I am.

A true gent with a 2.2m gambling addiction, who welched on a debt with a friend and whose daughter threatened said friend? Oh well, we've all been there I suppose.
