Players who instinctively you would class him with in terms of ability, interestingly.
By:
agassi lost his first 3 slams finals
and didn't have to play perhaps the greatest ever slam ducks broken against fed- phillippoussis nadal- puerta djokovic- tsonga LOL |
By:
tho the 1 slam final agassi did end up playing fed, he lost
By:
meanwhile the count is still
ZERO |

And Agassi was how old? Don't worry, Fed won't go on for ever canary, and Nadal has a dodgy knee. Murray needs a lot of luck if a truly talented player isn't to come along in the mean time to keep Murray in the side lines.
By:
actually sib, i'd say phillippousis had more ability in his little finger than murray has in his whole pale body... ;)
By:
well yeah sib but nadal and cilic are talented players and he beat them
fed is a true one off and pretty much nothing came through from 2001 until nadal |
By:
apart from fed obviously
By:
just goes to show your knowledge of the sport then
By:
that was to lies
By:
roddick was prob the best alternative
not great was it |
By:
No, fed isn't. Sampras ruled supreme before him. There's always a true great about, and Cilic and Nadal aren't in that class. He needs a couple of lean years in tennis after Fed. They are rare periods though.
Take Henman, he had one realistic chance, the year between Smapras and Fed. He lost to Ivanisovic. Murray will probably get one or two chances like that, but will have to take them. He will never dominate. |
By:
thanks andy - i thought the ;) signified i was exaggerating a little...
p.s. the reason i posted here was to show that murray baggers now only have 2 options left....either he never makes a slam final again, or he may well end up with quite a few and make this thread look pretty silly.... sorry for the input - won't bother next time... |
By:
nadal was great before the injury
that's why he beat fed on 3 different surfaces in slam finals |
By:
True enough, and if he gets his knee right, Murray has a career long problem.
By:
i think he'll win slams but people will downplay it because fed was near the end of his career
as if every player had fed to contend with |
By:
his knees will never be right again imo
By:
They didn't have Fed to contend with, they had Sampras. Before that Agassi. Before that a greater all round talent pool than there is today. This is not a tough era. The standard is always being cranked up, with greater fitness levels etc, but in terms of talent, this is not a stronger era than any other particularly.
By:
lol when agassi and sampras were around, loads of others were winning slams too
since fed arrived, it's been basically him and rafa |
By:
yeah they were good
but not near fed's level |
By:
I don't know, there was perhaps more competition then, not just the one. We will see, Fed will go one day and I think you are right about Nadal's knee.
