HOW AMERICAN RE-MAKES IN THE LAST 6 SONGS? Do you mean how MANY of the previous 6 number ones were remakes of songs that were originally written in USA? performed in USA? charted in USA? Not that simple, and I probably don't know the answer anyway, I don't claim to be a music expert. |

I thought The Kinks, Manfredd Mann, The Honeycombes and Herman's Hermits songs were originals I could of course be wrong. Roy Orbison has had a few number ones in amongst it all just recently too.
|
|
By:

|
|
By:
I didn't know Do Wah Diddy was a remake I admittedly

You really got me - The Kinks 10th Sept for 2 weeks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvyDWGF290M&feature=related Superb stuff from the excellent Kinks, penned by Ray Davies. I saw him doing a solo gig about 10 years ago and he was awesome. Always rumoured that Jimmy Page played lead guitar on the studio version when he was a session musician. Been credited as the first ever "rock" song :) |

Oh Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison
12 Nov 1 week (Wot UTI said) Baby Love - The Supremes 19th November for 2 weeks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23UkIkwy5ZM Suprisingly the Supremes only UK No 1 (They had 12 in the States) Great Motown production written by Holland-Dozier-Holland Originally called The Primettes, The Supremes had 30+ top 40 UK singles and comprised Diana Ross, Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard (d 1976), and were the most succesful of the Motown groups. |

Little Red Rooster - The Rolling Stones
3rd Dec for 1 week http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfJVeHKVcE8&feature=related Old blues standard written by Willie Dixon, and a previous hit for Howlin' Wolf, shows the Stones returning to their Blues roots. Suprised it reached No 1 as it sounds untypical of the general Pop stuff around at the time. Vid shows Brian at his best playing slide guitar, and was a major influence on the Stones at the time. |

I feel fine - The Beatles
10th Dec for 5 weeks (Xmas No 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlpMs_R3P6U&feature=related My fav early Beatles chart topper, with a great opening hook. 28th best selling single in UK. |

It's All Over Now - co-written by Soul Survivor Bobby Womack with the Valentinos - he's still touring, saw him in Manchester a couple of years ago - a legend.

Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames "Yeh Yeh"
14 January 1965 2 weeks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZTh9Hy5x5o I like songs like this because I didn't know the song from the title, but I knew it when I heard it. So I've learned something, I can put a name to the sound. A bit of a klunky, rough round the edges, version. A good song, not a great song imo. A lancastrian taking a latino number who'd've thought. Could only have happened in the sixties. A standard looking video - young Englishmen in suits looking relatively inoffensive. Not bad |

Heres another..... shame he went so early http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xd29j_thin-lizzy-whiskey-in-the-jar_music Brilliant. Saw them live - best live act i ever saw( bar Led Zeppelin). Refused to play WITHJ ! On a trip to Ireland went to see his grave. Very special moment. Site was covered in mementos ,objects, letters, plectrons, beads etc etc ( from all over the world). His mother regularly tidy's the grave and takes the fans gifts back to her house where his bedroom has been turned into a shrine. Apparently, if you're there at he grave when she's there you get invited back to the house. When I was there , Dublin were trying to raise enough money top have a statue of him made. Not sure whether that's happened. |

The Moody Blues "Go Now" 28 January 1965 1 week
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmYo0ZRpOgo Singer looks like the spit of Eric Idle to me, another dull video - were they all the same at the time. A good late night tune when you're p.ssed up down the pub. This is a great song mind, indicative of how many different English bands there were at the time all taking music their own way, whichever way that might be. Moody Blues still going strong today apparently. |

Righteous Brothers "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" 4 February 1965 2 weeks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8hjtFq3vE0 Now I'm no fan of love songs, but this is certanly one of the best. A crying shame therefore to see the Paul Shane classic massacred by these two halfwits. It is only fair therefore to post the far superior original Pebble Mill version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJvGdOC6D1Y Baby BaBEEE |

Singer looks like the spit of Eric Idle to me, another dull video - were they all the same at the time.
they were not made as videos, they are "live performances" if you believe the beatles the first promo video was for Paperback Writer/Rain. which they made because they could no longer be arsed appearing on all the various shows to promote their new songs |
|
By:
Yep Fair point. I didn't really mean video in the sense of a music video you get these days though.
|
|
By:
i know what you mean :)
those days they sold the music, these days they sell the video and their bodies, music is definately not a top priority |
