a very interesting and yet, difficult question, ovalman. Depends on what u mean by literal, as there are songs, parables, books such as revelation which many of us havent yet been given the key to truly understand, BUT, I do believe the bible is the God-inspired word of truth, God himself has been at its heart if u like, by his spirit.
You have to remember that the OT was written with Jesus in mind...numerous prophecies and descriptions of the coming messiah... I dont want to get into a historical accuracy argument, but Id say if God actually wanted to communicate his words of truth to mankind, then placing the old and new testament together seems a logical idea...remember also that Jesus fulfilled the laws as written in the ot, yet also provided a new way of living only made possible because of his death and resurrection. |

Damn sight easier if god appeared in the sky all over the world tomorra - and said a few words of warning in our respective languages. A whole lot more convincing than ancient novels I reckon.

Tony Broke
Should I green up now in the Top UK Temperature market? I'm currently red on the temperature reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and green on the rest. When the world turns (literally) upside down, will the UK be near the equator or the pole? (Oh, and by the way, I do believe every word written in the book of Revelation - but I also believe that almost every word on this thread is total nonsense, but am willing to be proven wrong). |

i know ;)

of course im a looney what do u take me for? hmm weinland was actually on james whale the other night...v. interesting listening too.
I still believe something's going to happen...israel for eg. have already stated that they 'need' iran's so called nuclear build up stopped before u s election in november...so what would happen if its allowed to continue? Iran have already stated they want israel wiped off the map.... anyway, if democrats get in they are more or less against Israel and their foreign policies...with ref to usa this would then make their position worse still as they wouldn no longer be allies...i also feel the country as a whole are rebelling against everything God says in the bible hence the coming judgment.....one way or another they WILL become a 2nd rate minor power...economy is already on the way out now. The main thing u should gain from everything which happens in the forseeable future is the fact that man has had long enough and if he refuses to repent (yes an old fashioned word i know) then God will step in...and thats in the bible not just in weinland's book. Tribualtion is just around the corner, but then u will only realise this as it happens...just wait and see eh. |
|
By:
Tribualtion?
Just round the corner ... or perhaps just around the bend? I can't wait for God to step in (there's an interesting theological idea) I've got a few things I want to say to the bloke. |

j2 can i ask u something?
i still dont know if i believe 'everything' weinland says as i dont agree with certain points he makes ie heaven ...but suppose his predictions occur when he said...what will be your own stance then? I like the things he says about easter, christmas, sunday sabbath etc...all make sense yet he appears to be off the mark on certain other things which are equally important... I wouldnt judge your beliefs on what any person says tho because u can study God's word for urself...as i do!! T C |
|
By:
like what orioles? like try to blame him for giving man free will...the free will we have abused since the creation?
|
|
By:
God loves you all...u can find out how much if ud only study the gospels with an open mind.

I haven't kept up with all of this thread but am I correct in thinking that it began with a prediction of 'the fall' of the USA and a nuclear attack on them before June.
The last post now seems that this prediction is being downgraded to include the possibility of it actually being just an economic downturn. Seems a bit of a cop out if true, although I admit I may have missed something in the middle of the thread. |

This is strange, that message is timed @ 11.56, I have been on the soccer forum/Betfair exchanges since about 8am and I choose to look in on Chit chat @ 11.57. A lot of stuff like that happens to me...
Anyway back to the point, I don't know to be honest, i'm expecting him to claim America has fallen if anything happens or not. I think he will provide the economy as proving him. If something happens to literally destroy a third of America then I will probably accept his word and pray lol. His book says some people will refuse to come under God. My stance is i'm not sure if their is a God, but i'm leaning towards yes (I know I have said leaning towards atheism recently). It depends on whether I am happy or not. When i'm happy I tend to believe their is a God, when i'm depressed I tend to think their isn't or blame him for things if there is, however I realised the other day I am responsible 99% of the time for me being depressed and need to take responsibility for my actions. I hope it isn't true but if it is I will happy turn to God. How about you? |

they keep postponing the second coming too - well maybe next century?

there isn't*
|
|
By:
i am depressed a lot of the time j2 as far as weinland's predictions go i have no idea as i still dont think hes right on certain issues....i would carry on repenting anyway as im already a christian ..albeit a very poor one...
btw i also agree with him on all he says about the catholic church...a complete nonsense imo...misleading (catholic doctrine that is) millions for years. LF i havent copped out..america is still liable to be destroyed... |

'Free will', or the schoolboy theologian's 'get out of jail free' card.
Okey dokey; He (and I use that as a non-gender specific personal pronoun, obviously) gave us free will, but will damn us for eternity if we exercise that free will to deny his existence. A strange position for an endlessly forgiving and compassionate omniscient supreme being. And so it goes .... |

I'm more concerned about 2012. It seems like there are so many predictions for this period. I do wonder if people are just trying to cash in on the Mayans. Different psychics and prophets have all picked December 21st 2012 as the day something will happen. A link was posted on the soccer forum recently with ' Master Nashwan'* predicting the same date. Now this means one of 3 things IMO, either it's all going down on that day and we will have multiple disasters, alien invasions, deadly diseases, asteroids hitting us, OR one disaster/life changing event OR nothing will happen and it's all down to people trying to cash in. I wish I believed the last point but I think something has to happen. The only comfort is a Mayan priest saying that it was a great celebration getting to the end of a long count.

I guess that's why it's called 'faith'. Not easy to be faithful when theories like this make so much sense. |
|
By:
'Faith' is a much more interesting conversation; religion is just a political construct.
Wish I could be bothered, but I've discovered a foolproof racing system :) |
