For earlier in the thread:
ROCKER Edwyn Collins has spoken publicly for the first time since he was almost killed by two brain haemorrhages. The brave Scot, who is battling back to recovery, said: "I need to get better ... I will get better." And the former Orange Juice frontman paid tribute to his fans for their best wishes, saying: "Thank you all. You're very kind." The 46-year-old - best known for his two-million selling hit A Girl Like You - suffered his first cerebral haemorrhage in February As the acclaimed songwriter began to recover, he caught the superbug MRSA. In August, he was finally able to return to the home he shares with wife and manager Grace and son William, 14. But the singer is suffering from expressive dysphasia, leaving him struggling to find the words he wants to say. Grace told Uncut magazine how reviews of a new album of vintage Orange Juice had broken her heart. Grace said: "When the reviews first appeared, Edwyn was so ill he couldn't take any notice of it. "For me, seeing the pictures of the band when they were so young and all the reminders of those days was almost unbearable. "He doesn't remember much at all of the first six weeks or so. Now he's able to appreciate it more." Edwyn finished recording a new album before he fell ill and hopes to have it ready for release early next year. Grace said: "Edwyn has many hurdles to overcome. He struggles to find the words he wants to say and initially couldn't speak or read at all. "Language was and is vital to Edwyn. He makes constant progress with very hard work. He is very determined. "But he's very Scottish and will not accept praise" |
