and for my t**enn'orth.
1. hagler - hearns 2. holyfield - bowe II 3. duran - leonard I |
By:
Sugar Ray Leonard v Thomas Hearns.
I saw that live at the leicester square odeon at 2am. Excellent bout. Leonard needed a ko and got it in the 14th! |
By:
holyfield - bowe, as well as being a great fight, had the added bonus of the lunatic parachuting into the ring. a five minute delay while the crowd beat the sh!t out of him and then the two went back to war. classic.

amuzual nelson what a pocket dynomo..
ew:) |
By:
singo - first you're wrong, Ali never has, is not now, and will never be, a tool.
second - pre-fight interviews put a.rses on seats. Nobody did it better. He night not win, he might get beat You wanna know first get a ringside seat. My rhyme, not Alis. |
By:
definitely the first leonard-hearns fight was a classic but tommy totally dominated until the sugarman finally caught up with him.
By:
How about Azumah Nelson, his mate ?
By:
what about the grudge match
mark kaylor v forgotten , tgm would of loved the result on that one... ew:) |
By:
Perhaps, as Kaylor was a West Ham boy, TGM was there.
By:
again i agree each way. his first fight with jeff fenech was magnificent. they could have fought in a phone box and never clinched at all.
By:
i knew that one would be written in stone , one of my mates was in brixton nick , he said the tension was unbelievable.....
ew:) |
By:
campo, could be. Are you saying it was all an act to sell tickets? If so, I could put up with that, but just seems odd that he managed to be able to put on that act everytime he was on camera.
By:
i meant azumah nelson. did you know that when he won commonwealth gold (edmonton 1978 - same games a certain finbarr mcguigan came to prominence) his name was nelson azumah??!!
By:

By:

By:
and for older forumites the percy sugden-sam tindall fight was classic.
By:
the two dave boy green & kirkland lang fights stick in my mind ,same result same round i think
By:
easter that sugden tindall tear-up could have been a classic if the ref hadn't been such an old woman
By:
what was the fight with the two little fella's , who ended up 5-4 on knock downs , no three knockdown rule in fight, brilliant scrap...
ew :) |
By:
very true duke. i believe the purse for that fight was outrageous for the time.
By:
for any time I should say easter

the second Saldivar -Winstone fight was terrific in June 67. I broke the news to HW that Saldivar had died and he burst into tears.Howard was a wonderful bloke whom I'd known since I was a schoolboy and he always asked me to be in his dressing room.A man that made boxing a great sport sometimes.
By:
I cant believe Buster Douglas completely caning Mike Tyson hasn`t got a mention so far.
By:
Boyo, Howard died about 5 years ago didn't he? Wasn't that old either I believe.
A tremendous fighter in his prime as I remember. |
By:
Pumphol...I think you will find that the fights you remember were Colin Jones v. Kirkland Laing........Both great fighters , Jones lost to Don Curry for the world title in his final bout and Laing had a decision over the great Roberto Duran....Sadly , Laing finished up as an alcoholic drinking on park benches in Hackney....what a waste...
By:
ninth round each time. Colin had title fight with Milton McCrory. CJ was a real hard nut outside too. First fight he lost was low blow disq to Curtis Ramsey from Portland , Oregon. I worked that fight.
By:
don't nobody remember the two liittle uns...
ew:) |
By:
I'm no expert but I've never seen anything like the Benn McClellan fight. Even on TV you could feel it.
By:
sorry eyeball your quite right must of been best part of 20 years ago now ,seem to remember lang hit him low twice and ( jones ) was in agony on the canvas ,somehow survived the round & stopped him in the next ,amazing fight .

If you like boxing, and haven't seen the Diego Corrales v Jose Luis Castillo fight from earlier this year it thoroughly recommend you trying to get hold of it. It's an absolute war. Trading bombs for the entire fight, and then a huge twist in the 12th round.
It was Mark Kaylor vs Coventry's Errol Christie involved in the press conference brawl...and then an absolute hum-dinger of an actual fight. My first live fight was Benn vs McClellan. Felt very guilty driving home, an awesome fight, which would have been a all time classic had it not been for the tragic ending. My favourite fight...well you cannot beat Hagler vs Tommy Hearns. The best three rounds ever! |
By:
I've always wondered why Hearns laughed all the way to the canvas.
By:
great recommendation on the corrales-castillo fight cj. wasn't the twist in the 10th btw? poor refereeing too imo.
