People seem to be misisng the point that a woman walking alone in the pitch black at 5am would usually be presumed to be a brass??
Loons are known to historically murder brasses so its not impossible by any means someone has seen her onc eor a few times and thought she's out "working" and made an approach and who knows got nasty or whatever.

FBD , thats a very good point. You dont expect women with normal jobs to be walikng in such areas in the dark. I think her mother/ father should have insisted that she got a taxi . Any parent with half a brain would have been appalled with her walking at that time in the dark.

As far as I know there's no evidence she even attempted to walk to work that morning. Still, let's not let facts get in the way of good wholesome theories.

Thats v true LS,i believe the woman was last presumed in her house sending text messages at about 9pm'ish, and thats the v last she was heard of.
I dont think anyone is putting up daft theories just pointing out that a lady walking alone at 5am in darkness to work (and some distance) is a slightly odd one.

We have been told she normally goes to bed 9 pm. Its highly likely she made the walk next morning. A woman walking there in the dark would come across as a low life character. People with money to spend get taxis bus own car or even ride a pushbike. She made herself look a desperate person and looks like she paid for it.

I think the point about her walking to work a couple of miles at those hours is that a lone woman in that situation is sligtly more vulnerable than a bloke would be.And if that woman then goes missing you can see why that issue becomes a talking point.
I live about a mile from a huge distribution park (Next/Boots and Argos) and they have 6am shift patterns etc and lots of guys walk past my house at 5.30 ish,but then again its a very public road, perhaps the girl in question also had a v "safe" public route? so maybe its not an issue at all.But surely you can see how a lone woman walking along a that time could arouse suspicions,i mean what if a Chit Chatter drove past her at that time!! god forbid!

Is there any evidence she didn't disappear before 5.30 in the morning. Last time I read about this, noone had contact with her from 8.30 pm the previous evening, so how can anyone be sure she even started the walk to work the next morning?

Tish and Pish PoolFC, who cares about facts? The important thing to remember is that a woman is missing and her reputation needs tarnishing by idle speculation.

Could the kidnapper be the same non-existent 'fiend without a face' who, erm, didn't kidnap poor Maddy Macca?
The Claudia Lawrence case is vastly more interesting than the Macca 'Kidnap' but hardly a shred of coverage.

Whereas "Howard" is most likley the murderer here,i don't think anyone has called the lady in question a "lowlife"? It's a totally legitimate argument about a lone female walking a long distance at those hours. As correctly pointed out though i believe she was last heard of about 9pm the night before so while the "walking alone" thing is not out of the question i'ts a big enough time wndow for god knows what to have hapened.
As for Howards claim that as her parents "are churchgoers" it means the woman had no awareness that's an utterly preposterous point, and does in fact point ever more to the forums very own "No 1 suspect"

Pool , cant be sure but she was an avid texter and didnt return one sent at 9-15 pm. Its highly likely she had gone to bed. She hadnt told anyone that she was seeing or doing anything else that night.

I'm Jack. I see you are still having no luck catching me. I have the greatest respect for you, but Lord! You are no nearer catching me now than when I started. I reckon your boys are letting you down. They can't be much good, can they?

middle-class churchgoers would probably be appalled by people in a bookies or this forum never mind thinking about the kind of person that would abduct their daughter. Lots of people live in their own little world. My mother was shocked when i told her there is a lap dancing club in her town ( Harrogate ! )

She was walking through Tang Hall, not the Bronx. You can walk through any part of York at anytime without fear, its probably the safest City in the country.
Its pretty well known round here that she liked to put it about a bit, with married men appearing to be the target of choice. Thats the choice of the her and whoever she gets involved with, but you cant just ignore it when trying to solve such a mystery. Thats the area they'll be looking at i'd have thought. Maybe she threatened to tell one of their wives and they flipped? Maybe a jealous lover? Maybe an irate wife who found out?
One thing I never thought of until someone suggested it on our forum, she worked at the university, wheres theres currently a huge new development ongoing. She wouldn't be the first person to have been buried in the foundations of a building site.
Her past is ropey to say the least, and if you choose to live such a lifestyle then you're going to upset a number of people along the way, but that doesn't mean you deserve to come into harms way. I hope she turns up safe and well, but its not looking likely is it.

Then what would she have to gain by not leaving a note behind for her dad, or having seen the pain hes going through, just sending him a message or a simple phone call to let him know shes alright? You'd have to be a pretty sick and selfish individual not to.

I think she's been murdered and whoever has done it has covered their tracks well. That to me would suggest it has been well planned. If well planned, that rules out an annoyed bloke she was sh@gging and even the wife of someone she was having a fling with. I would suggest a wife has found out she's been with her husband and payed for a contract killer to do the business.

Well done plod, but I cant help thinking your also going to need to find the body at some pointhttp://news.sky.com/story/1260580/man-held-over-claudia-lawrence-disappearance
Lots of TV police activity round here today. Burnholme grove where the arrested man lives is just off Bad Bargain Lane which 1/4 mile up becomes Fourth Avenue. Fourth Avenue joins Melrosegate about a further 1/4 mile, at the Tang Hall playing fields. It has always been though Claudia got into a car in this vicinity. Generally go into the Nags for their Tuesday night quiz night will no doubt be a lot of gossip in there tonight. Claudia lived three doors down and was a regular in the pub it was in the pub she met most of her gentleman friends.

Hmmm just watching the news, the house they are searching is I think a multiple occupancy house 5/6 or six men live there independently, I believe. I know one of them who drinks in the pub next door though he doesnt drive. One thing that hasnt been reported is that Claudias car was in for repair, it was for that reason she was walking to work.

Local man arrested Michael Snelling I know him yikes. He goes into the Walnut Tree which in Heworth Village. Sunday night is his main night does have a Geordie accent as well. Always struck me as a quiet gentle type of guy.

Do know that Claudias car was in for repair at the time of her disappearance. The arrested man was not her type of guy, but could have become infatuated with her. They would drink in the pub at the same time but not together Claudia liked the attention she got, it could be he got jealous. She did use her charms on menand probably had this guy on a string. He stopped using the Nags after she disappeared and started going in the Walnut. Most people are shocked as he seemed so harmless, he was last in two weeks ago.

Possibly she flirted in a light hearted way, and he tried it on. Wouldn't be the first murder committed by a man being spurned. Especially if - as seems the case ? - he is not very worldly. But it's all speculation at present. We will all know soon enough what occurred and why.

Police accusing papers/people who named him of jeopardising the investigation. 1/3 a balls up. I think he was always the suspect but they had no evidence the crimewatch stuff was supposed to give them something but it hasn't, looks like clutching at straws now.

General consensus round here is theres no way its him. He had worked with her and given her lifts from time to time and drunk in the same pub. So they knew each other after that theres nothing, she was an outgoing girl who liked male attention. He was a quite gentle type of guy whose main hobbies are real ales and bowling. There are loads of realistic suspects in this he isnt one of them.

If he knew her and was aware that she was a massive flirt with other men,but he wasn`t one of them. I imagine his inner dialogue would have been ticking as to how this had been the story of his life.
A man devoted to his mother, a man who never settled down with another woman.
He may seem a gentle chap, but imagine if while during a lift he misread the signs as Claudia gave him a hug for his generosity. Would he be the tight to accept the gossip that it would cause if she was to tell others he tried it on.
Did he feel there was no alternative but to silence her. He is an experienced lab worker, this might explain why the police have struggled to find forensics linking him.
Or perhaps he is totally innocent but the quiet shy chap can snap.

the implication seems to be that cos he's never married, had kids and loves his mum then he's the archetypal murderer when i'm certain statistics will show that nearly all murders are committed by men in relationships the victims in the vast majority of cases being their own partners or kids

Ok, so, hmmmm.
I think that we can rule out domestic violence here, unless of course you want to implicate Claudia`s family members. Murder statistics are only relevant when they are relevant if you get my drift. Can we count out domestic murder here? i think so.
The unmarried, childless, strong bond to his mother side was only an attempt to flip the the coin from the `no it couldn`t be him, he seems such a gentle soul` suggestion from someone who knows who he is. I also know from previous experience that it can be hard to be accurately subjective about someone who you know, being accused of murder.

obviously this doesn't look she was murdered by family or friends just trying to point out that just the archetypal loner commits far less murders than family men. that doesn't get headlines though
going slightly off tangent always amazes me that men accused of murdering their wives/partners often seem to turn up with a new squeeze to court. you'd think it would make you slightly wary

Was talking to a couple of guys who know him quite well, general consensus is that hes a million to have done it. Never seemed to show any interest in women devoted to his mother and did volunteer work for both Mind mental health charity and The Samaritans. Police have said they worked together, but over 500 work at York University. So the only evidence against him is he gave Claudia a lift to work which was probably arranged in the pub. If this guy is a million, who is the favourite? There are a few suspects but IMO they will not arrest them due to the implications of making another wrongful arrest. The father is not the most popular in these parts.

I'd be sticking my hard-earned on the police having leaked the name hoping it would flush out other near-victims, as happened with the various Yewtree suspects, and are only now rowing back after no other women reported he'd tried to force himself on them.

Think there is sympathy for the mother who has always behaved with dignity. The father whho knew full well how his daughter was behaving, and what she was doing, did nothing to stop her. Someone encouraged her to seek financial "compensation" from her suitors who was that. If someone was touching either of my daughters up in front of me I wouldnt be happy Claudias father seemed to encourage it. Since her disappearance he has supposedly worked tirelessly to help families of missing people, yes his profile has helped keep focus on the case, but he seems to rather enjoy the profile. There are stories of him going into the local pubs and being shall we say ignored to put it kindly. Even on Thursday when his spokeperson said he was in pieces about events he seemed ok to those who saw him walking around York Racecourse. The accused man has garnered a good deal more sympathy in the last week within the local community, with most everybody believing him to be innocent. Its hard to say how anyone would react given what Claudias father has been through but he should bitterly regret how he behaved in his role pf father/mentor.

I along with most everyone hope that the family can find some closeure, but as Claudias mother says it shouldnt be at the expense of an innocent man. To me and most local people it looks as if it is.

They found a local gobshoite to pin a weirdo tag on a completely innocent man (Michael Snelling) who has had his life wrecked by their incompetence. On a brighter note he is in the process of suing the police who having told Sky TV and BBC they were raiding a house in Burnholme Avenue then blamed the public for naming the occupant. They are still implying the men released today are guilty, Im told the only evidence they supposedly had were their links to Claudia they were her friends FFS.

Back from quiz winners 2 of accused local 3 in. There was no way they were ever going to proceed with charges they had nothing on them. Sad all round investigation now costing £800k and they are no nearer catching the person or persons responsible, local feeling is that by concentrating on the Nags has cost them.
