Report sfc1976 • January 7, 2010 12:26 PM GMT
Isn't supper an additonal meal, usually later than dinner?
Report Bamboo • January 7, 2010 12:26 PM GMT
I suppose they call the toilet the toilet aswell instead of calling it a lavatory or a loo like posh people do
Report Big Charlie • January 7, 2010 12:29 PM GMT
breakfast - first meal of the day

lunch - second meal of the day

I'm posh and it's DINNER
Report naydam • January 7, 2010 1:30 PM GMT
Beeing a bit (?) older than most on here, I can enlighten you. There correct sequence is Breakfast, Dinner (around mid-day) and Supper. Supper was the main meal of the day and usually eaten before dark while you could still see.
There should be no 'Luncheon' or 'Tea'. People didn't have the time or the food for such frivolous fancies. They were created by idle upper cl;ass women who had to fit in too many Dinnerr appointments into their Oh-so-busy lifestyle!
Report naydam • January 7, 2010 1:31 PM GMT
The not 'there'.
Report orioles • January 7, 2010 1:37 PM GMT
No tea? :(

Good God, man, DID THE EMPIRE MEAN NOTHING?

I breakfast and take lunch, tea and dinner. If I anticipate a little meal in the evening with close friends, then I invite them for some supper.

No tea indeed .... FIRE!

I would guess that the mighty O is closely related the ladies mentioned! :D

The memsahib insists I'm a layabout who lunches.

Pah.
Report Lux capacitor • January 7, 2010 1:53 PM GMT
If you were a true Prole then the correct sequence would be breakfast , dinner and then tea .

This is all pretentious showboating from people on this thread.

I have it on good authority that all meals in the Orioles household are referred to as 'scran'
Report Paulie Walnuts • January 7, 2010 2:12 PM GMT
I agree with Charlie.
I don't like all this Dinnertime being about 1pm and teatime being 5ish.
It's lunch and then dinner.
Report macarony • January 7, 2010 2:16 PM GMT
posh people in my office keeping saying "supper" it's DINNER

Chances are they are inbred. most middle class people are.

Well most people call it supper now, only now and again do people have full blown dinner parties which go on all evening until somtimes after midnight, breakfast anytime you like lunch should be at noon, tea which is say somthing like tea cakes and tea to drink,at 4pm, now we say supper anytime from 7/8pm.We no longer live in the good old days. This is how it was, as when I was a child we had a butler and housekeeper.
Report Bamboo • January 7, 2010 3:19 PM GMT
i think any meal should be called "Nose-Bag"
Report Bamboo • January 7, 2010 3:21 PM GMT
I knew this posh chap who had tea everyday with cakes and sandwiches etc but the white bread for the cucmber sandwiches had to be rolled out as thin as you can get it with a rolling pin .fussy git
