Perhaps they get killed on the way to the sales

I think most people time it badly, they don't spend it because they think they might need it 'some day'. And by the time they realise they have more than enough to see them through they are too old to be able to enjoy it.
The person who drops dead the day after spending the last penny is a very wise bird indeed. |

Probably a good idea to buy everything off the duty-free trolley then, imo.
By:
Perhaps they have kids. . .
By:
that's no excuse
By:
OK, I'll get this started for you...
Why would they need an excuse? Thank me after 200. |
By:
In primary school we had a lad that always asked stupid questions.
By:
was he racist and pro death penalty?
By:
Are you racist as well?
By:
i'm not aware we have anything in common...
By:
Thats rather improbable dont you think?
By:
no
By:
Great reply.
By:
ive spent all my money. do i just have to hang about skint till i die now? :(
By:
or you could earn some more
By:
too much effort
By:
canaryboy. I have decided that I quite like you. You remind me of when I was young and stupid.
By:
and now you're old and stupid right
bless |
By:
anyway, the premise of the thread was, why are old people with plenty of money, so careful with it
By:
see these old folk who live like paupers, then die and leave £5million to a cats home or an art gallery? jeez, makes me mad.
By:
it brings a tear to my eye when i hear old people say that their money is for the kids when they are gone but it makes me seeth when i hear the children say we don't need to save because when our parents are gone we'll be loaded
By:
i have an agreement im not going unless i can take it with me ...so feck the thread
By:
If only I knew when!!
I would be in debt up to my armpits with 1/2 doz jealous husbands chasing |
By:
my dad has just informed me he's managed to lower his cholesterol
am seething |
By:
What a surprise.
By:
i was surprised too!
it only took him 2 days is that possible? |
By:
Depending on how you define "lower" of course it is.
By:
However, my reference to surprise had nothing to do with your fathers lipids.
By:
from over 5 to around 2
By:
Clearly not.
By:
so how do you explain it?
By:
senility wouldn't be so bad
By:
What should I do with my money?
I'm 50+ and still working and earn about 50thou a year. I,sorry we,have about 130thou in the bank and I have a decent pension to take when I'm 60. What's the formula? How much should I spend now? I don't like the thought of being old and the thought of being old and skint terrifies me. |
By:
Its quite simple to explain it. If somebody tells you one day they have a cholesterol level in excess of 5 and 2 days later they have a cholesterol level of 2 there are various scenarios. They could be mistaken, the readings could be incorrect or they may not be telling you the truth.
By:
you can send me some gene
yeah kev, well he wouldn't lie and is adamant the reading matched what the docs had told him before he tested again. and since a 2 day diet he keeps getting this new figure |
By:
but if he is going senile, it means i have a decent shout at the cash without the grief
the perfect scenario |

Eddie Reid was perhaps more notable as a recluse than a hermit, but when The Scotsman reported the death of the 84 year old retired farmer in 2002, it described him as The £17m hermit, after revealing he had left a £27 million fortune in his will
