Are you for or against.

For me i would say yes in certain cases.

The amount it costs to keep the like of Huntly and Brady locked up is a fortune and in my opinion people like this should be disposed of with a bullet to the back of the head. The money saved by not having to keep them in secure prisions could be spent on giving drugs denied by the NHS on the grounds of cost.

2 points on this. Personally I dont think the death penalty is much of a deterrent, after all if these people thought rationally they wouldn't be committing the crime in the first place.

Having said that, why does it need to be? Prison isnt a deterrent either, yet we still imprison people. I think that when there is no doubt and the crime is severe enough (multiple murder, terrorism, supporting ManU) these people should be put to death within 2 years.

Also I feel prison is far too soft. There is a Jeffery Archer short story, (I'm sure based in fact) of a geezer who throws a bin through a window so he can spend 6 months inside the nick over winter, instead of sleeping outside in the cold. He did that a few times, so obviously was happy with 3 hots and a cot each day.

Well sorry but fck that, get them breaking rocks, sawing wood, whatever. Make prison really unpleasant, which I'm sure can be done without infringing some peado's human rights ffs.

I find that many people I speak to are in favour of the death penalty in certain circumstances. While this is hardly a representative sample, I'm sure it at least equates to a significant % of the population who would vote to reinstate it.
Report Six of Clubs • December 29, 2009 10:04 PM GMT
and in case you were wondering, i would vote yes for reinstatement of capital punishment.

Between 1950 and 1957, the number of murders in Britain never rose above 180. The annual average in recent years is over 900.

Overall crime has also shot up since we abolished capital punishment. Since the Fifties, the number of recorded crimes has increased more than tenfold, up from 438,000 in 1955 to 4.8 million in 2008.

This is because the removal of the death penalty has had a downward ratchet effect.

Since murderers could no longer be hanged, sentences for all other crimes had to be lowered commensurately. The result is the near-anarchy we see today, where serial offenders continually escape custody and rates of violent crime soar.

There is nothing barbaric about the death penalty. The real barbarism lies in refusing to punish criminals.

The drug-fuelled, crime-ridden, welfare-dependent, fear-filled inner city housing estate in modern Britain is far more savage than any place of execution in China for a trafficker of human misery.

Two wrongs do not make a right.

Are you ever going to say something original, probably not, tw@t.
Report Gary Binosh • December 30, 2009 3:24 PM GMT
wtf is that about ^^ :(

i agree with Mr Eboue's statement, and am firmly against it

to kill them makes it too easy, people who have sinned badly enough to be killed should be made to suffer
Report canaryboy • December 30, 2009 3:24 PM GMT
oh everything has to be original does it

well the death penalty isn't so you must be against that
Report Mighty Whites 2008 • December 30, 2009 3:25 PM GMT
Gary do you think they do suffer tho? It costs a fortune to keep killers like Brady, Huntly the ripper etc
Report Gary Binosh • December 30, 2009 3:26 PM GMT
i see where you are coming from mate, and if it cost so much, i guess its difficult

all i know is, if someone said to me now, you either have to be killed or spend the next 50 years in jail, for me it would be an easy answer

Re the death penalty in the US - why are they on Death row for up to 20 years?

Can anybody answer that?

They have the trial, all evidance is heard and the verdit reached.

They have the obvious appeal whereby any new evidance is heard and a appeal against the senatance is heard.

Another appeal is pointless as if no new evidance is forthcoming, and the decision not to overturn is made why keep them on death row.

Take them out after the first appeal fails and execute them if that was the verdict.

No need for 56 appeals and 20 years in prision.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 • December 30, 2009 3:29 PM GMT
in the us yes. Not sure that argument would stack up if you remodelled the appeal process.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 • December 30, 2009 3:31 PM GMT
In the US they often spend longer on Death row than they would have got for their sentence in the UK. In the US if you murder someone you get 20 years then are executed. In the Uk if you murder someone you get 20 years and are out in 12
