If poverty causes crime, and there are twice as many immigrants as English whites, why doesnt the ethnicity of criminals in Newham reflect that in the number of crimes ?

It's quite a simple question, Sparky.
Yourself, among others, reckon that poverty is a major cause of crime. In areas like Newham, one of the poorest, if not the poorest, borough in London, crime takes place more than in Kensington. Caused by poverty you see, comparison of poor borough, rich borough. If there are twice as many Immigrants as there are White English, and everybody is poor, should it not follow that for every 3 crimes committed, one is committed by a White English criminal, while the other two are committed by immigrants ? A 1:2 ratio. Won't be back for a while as racing is about to start. |

No, as not everyone in the borough is poor. When I researched this (well over a decade ago), amongst the poor the crime rates were substantially higher for white people in poverty than for non-whites, which is entirely understandable as a white person would feel far more desperate in such circumstances than a recent immigrant.
That's not to say gang/gun culture isn't also a factor today. |

It's a familiar refrain, but unfortunately, BC, your logic relies upon a false syllogism.
The link between crime and poverty has been well recognised for a long time, but you need to be precise about your definition of key terms and apply them with a degree of intellectual rigour. A good example of the pitfalls of the lax use of language would be the misuse of the term 'luvvies' on this thread - it has a very specific meaning that has no place here. So, sharpen it all up, otherwise you might look like a daft old racist, and that would never do. |

The market was open yesterday, only 13 traders traded, in the end aisle a bloke selling toys, his was the only shop open in that isle, he challenged three youths who stole some toys, he chased them off, six came back & attacked him with an iron bar, he is in hospital, welcome to the sh!thole that is Newham.

And the last word from 'sap' to me, on a different thread, was that he wasn't surprised that Griffin was going to go for the Barking seat against Hodge, as Barking is, and I quote, 'infested with BNP supporters'.
I informed him that the population of Barking, despite ie being next door to Newham, is 78% white, and that the BNP are 7/2 to get in, and that he have his life savings on if he is so sure. To the best of my knowledge, there has been no reply. |

Stoke, Chester, Winchester or Carlisle perhaps. From what I read on here these are 4 places where supporters of mass immigration tend to live. You can guess how many of the population are immigrants. SO19, the old C019, are the 550 strong armed response police for London, and they reported the other week on the BBC programme, that victims of gun crime in London are 50% black, and that the perpetrators are 70% black. Operation Trident, along with S019, must cost the taxpayers a fortune. I assume in this instance, and from reading, that black means black, not asians. You don't get these sort of crimes in the 4 places named above. |

I know Malaysia pretty well.
Malaysian citizens are worried about burglaries and street crime - and blame the higher instances of this - quite rightly- on the poorer Indonesians who have come across en masse to work as labourers and have lost their jobs due to the building recession . At one time there were an estimated 500,000 illegal indonisian immigrants in Malaysia - a not dissimilar total population to the UK - 55million . UK is not an isolated example. |
