Thinking of getting one of these convertors for my old man's xmas. He's got tons of old records he could get transferred onto CD. I've seen a lot of these convertors being advertised but don't know which is worth buying. Seems to be a massive diffrence in price. Some cost £20, others about £300

Anyone used them, any recommendations?

Download the mp3's.

Converting vinyl to cd is like sticking a mic in front of the tellly to record top of the pops 35 years ago.

Im not sure what you mean by vinyl to cd converters ?

the way i do it was to buy and plug in a usb turntable into your pc and record the sound and save with a free program, you can plug a normal stereo output into the mic input on your pc, so you could do it for nothing.

Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Elite Pro does it faultlessly.
The sound this thing puts out is unreal.

LOL, use to do that - and Pick Of The Pops on a Sunday,
and put the budgie upstairs so you wouldn't get him on the tape,
and make sure no-one pulled the chain if they used the toilet !

For easy use without a pc then a vinyl to cd converter is best way for you, its just a waste of money if you have a pc.

my old man doesn't have a PC and I'm not going to take mine's down and fan.ny about with software etc, so the vinyl to cd converter is what I'm after. Any good ones out there?

thanks. had a look and found an LP to CD convertor (no need for a computer). that's exactly what I'm after. But it's £350 :-(

You can get some nice old-styley record players for 30 quid.
Report Platini • December 6, 2009 2:29 PM GMT
he's got a record player, but he wants to transfer his old records to CD.

I know you can get a USB turntable for under £50 but that only records onto a computer.
I don't want the computer involved. Just a direct transfer, LP to CD.

why do they cost £350 ???? outrageous :-(

Buy him an mp 3 player and a docking station, and use a usb turntable to pc and convert them all for him, ;) keep you out of trouble for a few days/weeks/months dependant on record collection size, took me 3 months on and off , plus side for me was playing all the old vinyl .

he's 66 FFS !

ipod, mp3, computers, laptops ?? no chance LOL :-)
Report Ibrahima Sonko • December 6, 2009 4:33 PM GMT
For the money you might as well buy him a cheap pc & usb turntable, everyone should have a pc not matter what age they are.....
Report clarkson • December 6, 2009 4:34 PM GMT
66 is hardly ancient, ask Big Charlie

If your Dad wants to sell his records, i'm interested. 1950s / 1960s, presumably ?
Report Ivor • December 6, 2009 5:36 PM GMT
I use a Steepletone turntable/cd/radio system (to mp3 or memory stick) - it was a present and probably at the cheap end of the range - but it does the job well.
