The difference is that in over a decade on here I have never resorted to insults about somebody's family unless they start it.

There are a few think I 'meltdown' when I reply, which is rubbish.

I don't do 'meltdown', on here, or in the real world.

There are some who can't post enough insults, so they start on the family members instead, and because the subject doesn't 'bite'm the insults get worse, and if there are still no 'bites', they go into 'meltdown' themselves trying to get one, and get banned.

Asking a man if he's taking his wife dancing on Saturday night, knowing that his wife is in a wheelchair, may be hilarious to keyboard warriors, but I don't find it funny in the slightest.

Referring to a forumite as 'spaz-shagger' because his wife is disabled. And still he wasn't reported. The forumite said he would drive down from Scotland to Lancashire and meet him to 'discuss' it, but of course, the keyboard warrior bottled it, as they all do, and carried on with insults until somebody else reported him, and he got banned.

Like asking a  forumite if he's going running this weekend, when he knows that said forumite lost both his legs in a steel works accident.

I don't see what 'kick' people get out of it.

To paraphrase Johnson, 'when a man is tired of taking the piss out of Each Way, he is tired of life'. As Tommy says, he was utterly horrible, but that rather gave one carte blanche over someone you might otherwise have felt bad about mocking. One of my favourites was when he posted something about another forumite which was both extremely libelous and unpleasant. I cut and pasted it later in the thread to say...this is how out of order you were. He then complained to Betfair about what I had posted, or rather what he had posted. When in answer to their admonishments I pointed out that those weren't actually my words but his, they banned him for a month. My, the tantrum that followed.

CMAT, there is a thing called breeding and manners you can't buy them, you either have them or you don't. Full stop you don't insult a blokes wife or family. There's not many of us left, and we will be all meeting our maker soon and the world will be a worse place for it.
