I only live in a small End terrace with a slate roof, its peeing it down outside, and the roof is leaking quite bad, Ideally i need a new roof, i am currently out of work, so i can't afford one, whats the best way to get one out of the insurance company?

Yeah, but ideally i want to claim for the full roof, not just patching the leak up

I'm no expert but if you put in a big claim you'll have a loss adjuster round. I'm sure he'll spot the wear and tear which might give you probs.

POP,

You will need an "insured peril" to have occured to have a succesful claim.

Rain won't be enough to satisfy your Insurers that you have a valid claim.

Water ingress can fall under the storm danage peril if you can prove that the roof covering ( assuming it is not a flat felt roof - you'll modt likely be fecked if this is the case) has been damaged by "STORM" .

Therfore get your roofer to confirm that the tiles/slates have become loose due to high winds, storm conditions etc.

Cheers carv, im hoping the roofer is a smart cookie
Report carvoeiro • November 29, 2009 8:49 PM GMT
No problem.

You may find the roof covered for storm damage on your buildings policy, but any damage to carpets/furniture will be contents policy. It's another way to get you to pay excess on both claims!

Burn the house down, claim insurance, move somewhere else, imho.
