Stone Roses - The Stone Roses = absolutely superb, ground-breaking, inspirational, exciting album :D
Stone Roses - The Second Coming = abysmal, droning, plodding effort, as if recorded by a completely different group :( |

Elbow - Leaders of the free world

Big fan of Ther Beatles, but their 12th and final album LET IT BE was a patched-up and messy collection.
Even Phil Spector - who 'reproduced' the tracks - only improved it slightly with his overdubs. Only 3 stand-out tracks, Let It Be, Long and Winding Road, Get Back, the rest of the material needed more than a remix. |

i also think second coming gets a bad rap. ten story love song is a class tune, one of their best, and a few very good songs on that album. i think it's one of those albums people put down because they think they should.

CJ180 - it's just one of those albums that, however hard I tried to/wanted to get into, I couldn't. Think the fact it came out after Fool's Gold, which I thought was their finest moment at the time, didn't help either. |

it's wierd, i got into the stone roses when i was about 14 and heard the second coming first, it was only later i heard their masterpiece, maybe that's why i really like second coming

Fair do's Dave. It was the opposite way around for me. I was studying in Manchester at the time, so they kind of came along & took over for a year or two. Everyone eagerly awaited The Second Coming, which seemed to take forever to make, and when it came out a lot of people who'd loved the first album we're massively disappointed. I just felt it was an exercise in John Squire proving how technicall good he was at playing the guitar. I'll give it another listen later as I haven't listened to it for years!

i always heard people talking about the stone roses so decieded to try them out and second coming was on sale at 4'99 at the time so i picked it up, think that was 2000 or 2001, i was only getting into music at the time, were my socks blown off when i heard the stone roses (album)

The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses imo.

To be fair Dave, and Old Bean, there are very few bands, imho, whose last few albums are better than their first. The Cure is a good example but the same could be said of The Rolling Stones, New Order, U2, REM etc etc
|

i think the beatles are one of the few bands where they got better and better, and album after album was pure quality, until the masterpiece that was abbey road, let it be wasn't great, the oppisite side to that has to be oasis, just get worse and worse as the years go by, their latest album was a disgrace

Agreed that the Happy Mondays worst album is Yes Please.
I can understand you guys who were hugely disappointed by the Stone Roses' Second Coming. HOwever have another listen and another and it'll grow on you like nobody's business. Just fast forward the first 4 minutes and 20 seconds of the first track which is just self - indulgent shiite and let it work it's magic on you. Good Times is a great track. |

Second Coming is an amazing album...by any other band would be regarded as a classic
And Be Here Now is far from Oasis' worst album (second best in my eyes) |
|
By:
I agree Second Coming is a great album which still sounds good 15 or so years later.
Be Here Now was terribly overhyped and a poor album, unlistenable all these years later......... |

Didn't say it was good ;)

Send Away The Tigers, is just plain awful.
And niceone is right Metal Machine, is pretty bad but I think that was rather deliberate on Lou's part! Don't Believe The Truth is the worst album done by the Gallagher brothers. Scott Walker's The Drift. One avant-garde step too far for me. Echo & The Bunnymen. Evergreen is such a laboured effort, except for that marvellous hit 'Nothing Lasts Forever.' Every solo album by Phil Collins. Hope he vanishes completely, after next April. |
