I thought after the Irish Arkle that if the festival Arkle was strongly run and FV finally got to experience that for the first time his stamina might give him a big chance. However, after Sunday I think that Mullins might be finally forced to up him in trip because I don't see another race that GW could run in other than the Arkle itself because they just can't risk him over the longer trip for fear that if he's the same as the other day he'll have absolutely no chance.
As it was a match it's deceptive but he went quick, they were miles in front of the later race over the same trip and coupled with how he was before the race and the race itself he just blew himself out. |
By:
They were miles in front through the race which the final 3 seconds quicker time didn't really do justice too as the winner was heavily eased to the line.

I thought the horse cannot go left-handed as he's a strong tendency to hang left. He ought to have won the Fred Winter at Cheltenham in 2022; he again hung right in the Ballymore last Cheltenham too.
I hope he runs in The Stayers as I've several trebles with him as the last leg. But, I doubt it very much. I'd see the horse skipping Cheltenham and probably wait for Aintree (maybe not with Impaire Et Passe) or Punchestown again. |
By:
Er……Aintree is left handed
|
By:
And why did you have “several trebles” if you considered” Gaelic Warrior “cannot go left-handed”?
|
By:
I meant right-handed.
My trebles were from the beginning of the season with City of Troy and Galpin Des Champs in anticipation of his running in the Stayers. Then redirected (more expense) to The JLT. I'm almost certain the stakes have gone down the swanny on these; only salvation would be a 'lay' to salvage some capital. The horse hugely underperforms going left-handed. Aintree or Punchestown and Kempton will be his next port of call, I'd imagine. |
By:
If he can't go left-handed or right-handed maybe they should probably just lay him out for the Cambridgshire
|
By:
Thanks everyone. I also had a bet on him for the Stayers well aware of the tendency to wander. My thoughts of him going back to hurdles is that Paul Townsend may be able to settle him near the back in a bigger field.
Turning to the Ankle - I think that the pressure of running at pace fro 2 2miles would exaggerate the jumping to the left whereas 3 miles where the first 2 are run at a relatively slower pace would be easier on the horse (especially over hurdles). Anyway, I sure Willie and the owner will have the best interest of the horse in their mind and do whatever they believe is best. Regards Forty |
By:
I think The JLT was deemed the most likely instead of RSA or Arkle was because the race would be run on the old course, I think Mr Mullins ought to reconsider 3m - either the Stayers or RSA.
|
By:
impossible 123
The JLT (Turners) is run on the NEW course. Do you deliberately get things wrong? |
By:
Was entered in stayers hurdle. Been withdrawn recently. WOuldnt be surprised if he skipped Cheltenham and go straight to Punchestown.
His best hope of a big prize is a King George. Take nothing away from his conquerer Fact To File . Carrying 23lb more than Heartwood ran overall time 3 seconds quicker despite being eased substantially . |
By:
Personally couldn't have him for longer trips now, I think his jumping out to the right is exaggerated as he begins to tire, it was like that the other day at the last fence, his best chance IMO is the Arkle where he can just be gunned and hopefully last it out on the one breath so to speak while he's still racing within himself. I think it's shaping up to be GW + IET Arkle, FV Turners and FTF, Brown Advisory now.
|
By:
The Turners was the preferred race (shortest in the betting) was because the track was lesser sharp being run on (old or new course) I cannot remember which for sure, according to Mr P Mullins. Then with the disappointing runs of Facile Vega in The Arkle trials GW was considered a viable substitute by Mr Mullins as reflected in the market, but chickened out of the contest against Marine Nationale last weekend.
But, I do not think he'll run at Cheltenham instead rerouted to either Aintree or Punchestown. I think backers for Cheltenham have lost their money on him. |
By:
Walsh and hyslop both were of the view that it should go for the Turners
|
By:
I thought Walsh was leaning Arkle, I think he said it at one point.
|
By:
They both agreed on the Turners for FTF although Walsh was in no doubt he would stay the longer trip, when asked about GW, Walsh said he would not be surprised if he dropped in trip, neither went any further with a particular preference.
|
By:
Walsh was talking down the chance of Galopin Des Champs in the Gold Cup even before his 1st defeat this season citing his mega exertion in last year's triumphant effort in the Gold Cup; his defeat at Punchestown post Cheltenham; Bravemansgame performances this season.
How wrong he was! |
By:
It beggars belief that people quote Hislop and Walsh as if it is somehow a definitive opinion. Hislop's tipping record is worse than dire, and Paddy Power's poster boy is only good for analysis after the race. The same goes for Dineen and Jennings. If they were judged by results neither would have returned.
As for the original question, Mullins had described Gaelic Warrior as the 'perfect fit' for the Stayers. He was then backed down to favourite for the Stayers. Of course he then changed his mind and sent him over fences. Had he stayed over hurdles he would probably have remained favourite for a shocking renewal. No chance of him being supplemented as I doubt the trainer likes to look a fool. |
By:
Now it's this race hence connections did not want to go for the Irish Arkle trial. Mr Mullins: "We'll try and get him right for The Turners. We are where we are now and he still has all the options. We'll see what happens."
|
By:
DD, who sound like someone who had backed GW for the Stayers?
|
By:
It's not a secret. I would have taken exactly the same view had I not backed it.
|
By:
From 2.32 to 5/1 is a tempting one if (a big IF) he shows up. I always take the trainer's assertion with more than a pinch of salt. I'll wait for the day given I've sufficient at 5/2 antepost singles and accas.
|
By:
You can bet 5/1 NRNB - no brainer for me.
|
By:
I lied - already been cut! Was 5/1 this morning when I looked.
|
By:
4/1 nrnb is still a good price. The nemesis is the nature of the course eg left-handed; he's a tendency to jump right. Cheltenham is not his track either from previous outings.
Personally, I think he'd be saved for either Aintree and/or Punchestown. |
By:
Aintree is also left handed.
Though he does jump right, he has not been disgraced at either of his two festival runs. |
By:
The Mildmay chase track is also particularly tight. In any case Mullins doesn't run many at that meeting except in the National/Topham, though I suppose he might be chasing the GB training championship this year.
|
By:
Going to run in Arkle. I think it’s the best move and might just about get away with it against that field.
|
By:
fav foe arkle now at 5.5 . i got on at 9.8 so happy with that.
makes up for some of the others ante post bets that have gone west |
By:
I hate seeing horses falling from pure exhaustion and that;s how his fall looked to me last time. That has to leave a mark on a horse. Personally he's a watch for me now.
|
By:
If I FOUND A FIFTY I would not be putting it on GAEIC WARRIOR in The Arkle!
|
By:
Hard horse to fancy after his last run, that's for sure.
But being the one P.Townend has chasing makes him interesting. |
By:
Chosen
|
By:
A 3-miler running in The Arkle. A sacrificial lamb for Facile Vega? I'd be blown away if he wins The Arkle.
|
By:
Being backed like losing out the question
Found nifty 15/2 now at its leg fallen off |
By:
Only race they could possibly have run in, he's the class horse in the field, his jumping out to the right is a factor when he tires, think that over 2 miles he has a chance to blow them away, of course his behaviour pre race is also a factor to consider.
On the face of it the price coupled with what we've seen from the horse and it looks all wrong, but he has the pace to blow this lot away. |
By:
Kudos to twister for running a couple here,,,
|
By:
Definitely has not looked a 3-miler this season.
P.Townend was able to keep him wide at Leopardstown so his jumping right was not exaggerated. Be interesting to see how he copes tomorrow. Definitely has the pace and class if his jumping holds together. |
