The value at this stage for me and has been long forgotten is Le Richebourg 40/1....he was a brilliant novice and favourite for the Arkle before injury intervened, they ultimately pulled the plug this year, I think he may have gone into this past season as JP'S number 1 hope for the champion chase but of course DDS had a good season in his own right. His bubble has not been burst yet but he's priced as if it has..40's too big. Hurrah, I've spotted him entered up in the John Durkan in a couple of weeks, run or not he must be getting closer, fascinating to see if he retains all his ability, could be a real live one if he does. |

If Altior puts in a breath-taking performance in the Tingle Creek next saturday could he be another shortie like Epatante or Shishkin? He'd still be the reigning champion but for a foot issue a few days prior last season? I think those out have not posted a championship winning display yet.
By:
So only thing i will take out of the Tingle Creek in relation to this race, is that i expect RV to reverse placings with the first two.
Better ground(hopefully) and Cheltenham will suit him much more than conditions yesterday. Some interesting horses out today, not least CPS. |
By:
not a lot of affection for politi ,one of those that no matter what he beats he will always be underestimated . a lucky winner the fav must have underperformed , how about this theory? maybe nickey was expecting a nice easy stroll round for altior then his memory went back to the 2019cc when polit gave altior a real race ,then nichs says i have politi spot on for this and nicky realised he would have a proper test against a superb jumper and decided fook this lets look at the ground and give this a miss .
By:
Absolutely nothing against the horse, hes very likeable.
I just feel that RV is an improving horse, loves Cheltenham and ground that we normally get at the festival. Was a tad surprised he ran yesterday, they obviously really wanted to get a race into him and considering the ground he ran an ok race i thought. I think hes real value at the prices. |

I wasn’t impressed with CPS today. That didn’t look like a QM winner. Regardless of fitness jumping wasn’t anywhere near championship standard. It’s form against Defi doesn’t look as good as it did at the time and that was when the hype began imo
By:
yes autocue i didnt see his race today but as you say the win over defi is not so hot as it seemed at the time ,also the a plus tard form has taken knocks, throw in the fact he has no cheltenham course form , good effort to beat min but min better over 20f not saying he wont go close if he lines up but still risks attatched all the same .
By:
yeah budd decent price if he gets his going 20/1 each way, good luck
By:
despite suggesting put the kettle on as a selection when looking back at my bets i have only had a token bet on her at 20s and now the price has gone she dosent interest me as much .nothing against her just a price thing . looking elsewhere for cover her stablemate notebook appeals at 16s each way .if hdb can sort the shenanigans at the start out then comes into it on last seasons efforts ,won at naas on seasonal appearance beating fakir d and room for improvement and has a good chase wins to runs ratio. ptko has the mares chase as an option .
By:
Personally dont think the mares chase is an option they will be interested in.
She won the Arkle well enough, and see no reason why she should not be a big threat in the CChase. |
By:
This renewal looks poor eg Altior on the downgrade - his running in snatches last season is a great concern; CPS did not impress at Cork; Politologue a fortuitous 2020 winner.
Put The Kettle On could be the one with the most potential this season. |
By:
All things considered, at 7/1 I think you are being compensated and then some to weigh in with Altior, I think Nicky will be released from the tower with enough time left to get him to the only race that matters
.I don't see what warrants such a big price as that, the horse had the now infamous hard race with Cyrname and people may want to dwell on that but remember he has raced since in the Game Spirit and his trademark kick after the last was all present and correct with no apparent ill effects from the Ascot race on show, he'd have been a short price to beat Politologue in March and since then he has missed his intended start race back and that's it. The opposition, the reigning champion, a solid horse who you can rely on to run his race but not a level to rival Altior and Chacun Pour Soi who looks impressive but I keep getting the niggle that under pressure up the hill he might just be a weak finisher. I can't see where else to look, I think the market is reflecting a suspicion that there just might be something that Nicky isn't telling us about the horse that he's not quite happy with as well as the fact that he is public enemy number 1 and that is being reflected in the price a little. 7/1 is worth chancing with all that in mind, I think. |
By:
Despite winning Altior had run a few races in snatches, and together with his age and no shows in the 2020 Champion Chase and Tingle Creek a lot had to be taken on trust of what Hendo said. As such, the younger generation could be his undoing; 7/1 is tempting but he'll need to prove his well-being prior nevertheless.
By:
If he turns up on the day and you haven’t got him on your side you better hope he is beat before two out whether he has run in snatches or not.
By:
chacan ,notebook .put the kettle on declared for leopardstown .
By:
Kettle could be near Fav soon.
By:
Only one horse has beaten put the kettle on over fences. I would love to see this horse in the champion chase.

Hoping Altior turns up today in fine form
Wanting him v PTKO at the festival..... |
By:
Altior retirement beckons, I'd have thought, after today.
By:
Is he injured then?
By:
Desperate day for me today.
Had Kettle and RV against the field, and Altior is one of my fav horses. Would not completely give up on any of them......Cheltenham in March will be totally different to Kempton or Leop at xmas, but dont look good. CPS looks a real good thing now. |
By:
Put the Kettle and co totally outclassed today. CPS looks a banker now come March.
By:
what stops him being a banker is .....price ,frailtys ,and lack of course form add the 3 together and he is no banker for me at the price .if he turns up fair enough he will be hard to beat but remember this horse has had a handfull of runs in his 8 or so years .good luck if lumping on !
By:
He seems more robust over the last year. Missing Cheltenham due to standing on a stone is a little unfair.
I’m not betting at 6/4 now but I’m sure he’ll make up the majority of patents come Weds. Today was a brutal reality that CPS has probably 10lbs in hand of the Irish and UK horses. Any other winner in March won’t get the credit if he doesn’t turn up. |
By:
Probably seeing something that isn't there but for all the ease with how he put them away today I just don't like the look of him when the jockey asks him on the run in to open up a bit and put a bit of polish on it, he gives me the impression that if something was there alongside him that he'd curl up...bit like what A Plus Tard did to him, I wonder what's under the bonnet.
I'd love to see Cyrname being chucked into this race and told to point and shoot, it wouldn't be the first time a thought of 3 miler dropped back and did it. Love to see it and 33's is worth chancing it with for me. |
By:
well nichs may want a better bit of backup for politi in the champ chase duc de gen dosent look up to much and as ya say one man and marthas son dropped back to good effect so can be done . cyrname emptied after travelling well , would not suprise me if nichs went champ chase with him.
By:
Duffy, I watched today’s race without a bet so no bias. My thoughts were the pace collapsed a mile out which left CPS up front which I’m sure Townsend wouldn’t have wanted. The likes of Kettle were able to track him which I thought would make an exciting finish but the way he travelled all over them was very impressive to my eye.
If Politologue took him to the last fence you could really see something special in March. I’m a lover of National Hunt racing so cheer on champions. |
By:
You're getting the price and although we can't say that the speed he has is 2 mile speed, it certainly would be interesting to see it not blunted for once trying to get a trip.
If Nicholl's is still of a mind that he's a special horse then the Queen Mum rather than the Ryanair would be the place for that narrative to be seen to best effect. Run him in the Game Spirit and let's get a clue. |
By:
Hibre. he was very impressive and like I say, I'm probably seeing stuff that isn't there (as per), I'll put it this way, I think the least impressive part of his race is the run to the line when the reins are shaken at him....I thought it when he beat Min too.
He could be that good but he's another that I think will have to win it on the bridle, if something could hang with him when the hill looms I wouldn't fancy him. |

Hibore, sorry, keyboard is hopeless

It’s just trying to find the one that can go with him

henderson dropping hints about the ryanair for altior
By:
Hendo's beginning to sound and behave like Mr Mullins. As far as Altior is concerned I shall leave him alone until he shows up for a race - distance is the key; if resoundingly beaten up-in-trip or retirement beckons. It's not good for horse racing a once top-notcher is repeatedly annihilated by young-pretendees regardless of trip.
By:
That horse owes nobody nothing and if he goes to festival and blows out he should get the same reception as Istabraq did as we all get old and being at the top for so long no matter how easy it sometimes looked racing at the top takes there toll you can't go on forever
By:
I said it at the time but his last run backed up to a degree that reading between the lines, the reluctance of Henderson to run the horse in the Tingle Creek was that they just aren't happy with him.
Calvin said after talking to Nico in the days before the Tingle Creek (before the withdrawal from the race) that he did not get a level of any confidence coming from the jockey. |
By:
bit of a drift on CPS out to 3.2 on here, hope all is well, they tend to be a bit slow giving details from this stable on horses having setbacks
By:
They ain't slow at all, the protocol is to inform the owner before anyone else.
