budd on looking again at yesterdays race i would say the further he goes the better he is backed him at 16s nr no bet for Ryanair as a saver but would love to see soft ground and Gold Cup.

I doubt Pat Kelly expected that much competition against PP when he entered him. There is no standout opponent but having 3 or 4 capable Grade 2 class will make sure he has a race. I'd guess he'll be about 3/1 tomorrow maybe shorter ?
He'll need to run well... at least finish within a few lengths if he is to stay at the head of the market. |

Im not sure what tomorrow will tell us, It is anyones guess how fit the trainer will have him and where he will go after tomorrow. I would be amazed if he could win a gold cup off this prep. I think his RSA win is massively over rated most of the field were rubbish and have done nothing this season. Elegant Escape ran no race that day probably chased too quick a pace. Al Boum Photo fell when most likely beat but may not have finished that far behind and Monalee did the exact same as in the Bartlett the year before he doesn't stay 3M and flattered Percy. Evan in an open year 4/1 is a shocking price imo.

I am too worried about tomorrow so long as he finishes in ok shape, even if he blows up two or three furlongs from home. He will strip fitter for it and then in nearly two months time he will lead home a glorious 1-2-3 for Ireland.

Not much support for any of the opposition against PP so far. South of 2/1 is a bit short for me but should win against this lot if he’s straight enough.

As for PG not expecting much competition, yeah I guess he wouldn't have thought war of attrition, alpha des obeaux , zaidpour and shaneshill wasn't too high level of competition. Don't forget hes running on his best ground either lads ...soft to yielding is exactly what he wants

That was a good performance but worrying how close Killutagh Vic was to him. He was the yardstick I was most interested in seeing the “stone” improvement PP needs to find to challenge the proven contenders in the Gold Cup. At least we know he’s not improved the magical “stone” over hurdles.
Roll on the Red Mills and see him over fences. BTW cutting to 3/1 is bonkers |

Most of the opposition today apart from Limini were chasers. Are there no top class 3 mile hurdlers in Ireland apart from Penhill?

If that was not PP's ground then what is. They won't run him on anything without soft in the going but you say that what looks to me like either very holding or heavy today is not his best. That 2.5 hurdle at 2.25 looked desperate ground to me.

Think the ground there has got very cut up on the inside,they are finishing alright which says the ground is descibed accurate enough imo.
Not sure there are top class staying hurdlers anywhere,Supasundae at a push in Ireland? Agree with the 3/1,books giving nothing there. |

I was very impressed with him today, I'm not bothered by the weights and measures, he travelled with his usual ease and fluency through-out and won, I thought easily in the end, he wasn't doing a tap coming to the last.
I think 3/1 is fair, the GC market isn't looking half as competitive a prospect as it did as they crossed the line in last years race. Both last years 1st and 2nd could be gone and the next 2 in the betting are relative unknowns with question marks over their big win that has elevated them in the market and the next in the market is a non stayer. |

Question marks about the 3/1 fav as well, like no form over fences at senior level.at least some of the others with question marks and at bigger prices have at least won top 3m chases this season.

Yes that's fair, however I'd have thought there would have been more astonishment at him pushing for favouritism over the previous Summer when the race looked a lot stronger than it does at the moment when he also hadn't won a race at senior level and the front two never had questions over them.
Now MB looks gone and NR to a lesser degree has a question mark, the next two need to prove their last wins were to believed and the whole race looks less strong. |

Today's shown he still has 4 working legs, but 3/1 for the Gold Cup? Pull the other one! He beat Bapaume on level who was beaten out-of-sight by Apple's Jade twice - Bapaume clearly does not stay 3m; Killultagh Vic a former smart hurdle now a chaser who was off the track for 714 days until just over a year ago. And, Limini once touted as a serious Champion Hurdle contender, but another doubtful stayer after today's performance, I believe.
At 3/1 only the needy and connected will back him, I firmly believe; Native River and Clan Des Obeaux, and Might Bite if his wind-op works the oracle against him on the day. |

To be honest I thought his price had been mentioned quiet a lot on here since the season started,certainly I have said a few times he's been too short
As for NR,he's totally exposed as a horse that needs at least the Gold cup conditions to be at his best,he ain't had anywhere near that this season but has run as well as I expected in defeat. He's still a big threat to any horse come March imo. |
