hi guys cant see any threads about this fella so i will start one , have not been so focused on the horses for the last few years ,various distractions have took their toll and not put the time in and had my eye off the ball so to speak and this years festival was bit of a blur ,anyway although mite bite is no dark horse and around 2nd fav for the gold cup i think there is still a bit of juice in the price at around 7s on here and 6s in the shops .
my first initial thought when considering him was "is he a bit quirky " after his rsa win when he surrendered a big lead in the final stages veering sharply right and seemingly handing the race to stablemate whisper ,ran out of petrol were my initial thoughts but the jockey straitened him out and he stayed on as brave as a lion and got back up on the line so clearly stamina is not a problem nor attitude . on watching countless reruns of his aintree, rsa and feltham runs what struck me was his amazing cruising speed looking at him leading in his races he does not seem to be going that fast but when you look in behind it becomes apparant that he is taking a lot of the others out of their comfort zone and they are going a stride or two faster than they want to which leads to them making mistakes i.e meeting fences quicker than they are able to deal with while this fella jumps for fun (barring the blip at the last in the feltham )............ last seasons novice chasers look to be a decent bunch both in the staying and 2m departments as recent events have shown ....whisper has franked the rsa and aintree form and come out and giving weight to a ridiculously well handicaped mullins horse total recall and after looking all over the winner just got chinned in a photo in the hennesey so the form looks solid .............reigning champ sizing john has done nothing wrong and will be hard to beat but of the 2 i am with the hendo horse who should have room for plenty of improvement ,and if he wins the king george then his price should shorten,be interesting to see how fellow front runner bristol de mai gets on if as expected these 2 take each other on from the front ......SELECTION MITE BITE 7S ON HERE 6/1 IN SHOPS GOLD CUP ....good luck ............ as ever input and opinions welcome !

have had a bit more on minella rocco ,happy with main bet mite bite but no harm having a few bullets as anything can happen ,as of last season some pretty average runs this season but with these connections what you see is not what you get , last year it seemed he was on the deck more times than lord nelson, but on the day it mattered he ran a stormer in the gold cup finishing like a train to snatch second not beaten far .looks like there will be no shortage of pace with a half a dozen who like to be up or near the front end and no harm to have a closer who stays every yard on your side .......available at 20s nrnb

my final dart in the race .had some on anibale fly a few days ago and some more today on here at around 36 .won a decent handicap easily off a big weight and hopefully he will now be aimed at the gold cup seemed to show big improvement and happy to have him on side at a big price .
More i think of it the more i like Rocco.
As Foyles says the way the race will probably go it may well pay to have a horse like him on your side.
Its entirely possible that any horse taking on Might Bite may well struggle to get home. easily see Rocco placing and if MB struggles to get home,may even win.

rocco is inconsistent but if you respect native river you have to respect rocco , he needs a thorough test and might bite will give him that

harking back to the king george hendo said of mite bite "we held onto him due to the ground " that got me thinking ,mite bites feltham performance fell at the last when well clear, and the rsa well clear when idled and veered right ,could be the horse needs company to keep his concentration and mind on the job and hendo said they will have to make a plan for him in the gold cup after the final fence ,may be they will hold on to him again similar to the king george type race than the trail blazing rsa and feltham performances .

Might want to close your eyes for a few seconds after the last, but open them up again and see how he gets going again right to the line.
Watching that again makes me more confident he will get home fine,and a darn sight better than any horse trying to take him on.......imo.

Might Bite has the credentials to win the Gold Cup with/out the presence of SJ. If he jumps the last infront, and should anything untoward happen c'est la vie - that's horse racing.
I did the same last week Budd & then proceeded to back him outright & in a double with Buveur. That run in last year’s RSA reminded me of Denman, galloping them into submission.

I don't think he would get away with those RSA antics in a Gold Cup but he may be well clear going to the last so the easy solution is to lay off at 1.4 or lower in running. The gate to the paddock will still be before the winning post so beware.
I think Hendo might request a direction arrow ---> to indicate finishing line for MB where the paddock gate is, just in case.
I cannot wait for the Festival to begin, but already had an antepost (Death Duty) knackered prior to event similar to last year with Getabird; the rest will go to post, here's hoping!

Jumped and travelled really well the other day, and will be staying on strong.
Never had him on my mind at all, but have changed that, and now think he could well be suited to this kind of test.

In March 2017 I watched the Brian Ellison runner Definitely Red win the Grimthorpe by 14 lengths at Doncaster over 3m2f - that day I convinced myself that he was more than just an out and out stayer and that i would back him in any top graded chase if at a decent value price.
My confidence was knocked a bit when only coming 3rd in the Charlie Hall - but after some reflection I stuck to my initial thoughts after that Grimthorpe i.e that he would show his best at 3m2f+ on a track that required some getting and run at a faster pace. So i just kept backing him at silly prices for the Gold Cup
His next run at Aintree in the Many Clouds Chase in December was run in atrocious conditions , he made the pace that day and i thought he was cooked 2f out as Cloudy Dream was seemingly travelling all over him .... but he picked up again and went away. For days after that race i was trying to work out if either Definitely Red had just put in a massive Grade 1 class performance in tough staying conditions and making Cloudy Dream & Flying Angel look like a hcappers , or was it simply down to the heavy going. I Just wasnt sure but i just kept backing him for the Gold Cup and to hell the consequences.
His next run in the Cotswold , again in very soft conditions , has now shown his ability at travelling around there and jumping at a fast pace - they were really going some pace from 4 out and he hammered them whilst swishing his tail on the run in . He was backed down to 80s on the exchanges and 50s with the books before the race , and 25s in a place straight after.
So after nearly a year since the Grimthorpe it looks like he will be taking his chance in the Gold Cup - Im now asking myself several questions pertaining to his chances in the Gold Cup.
1.Is he simply reliant on heavy ground to beat assumed classier horses ...or is he the class horse that ive been convincing myself of since the Grimthorpe and is still being underrated ?
I think the majority would say, based on the formbook, that he needs it heavy to have any chance in the Gold Cup - If the ground did come up soft then i am personally convinced that he does not come out of first 3 bar a fall - but my personal view is that he is better than that. Ellison has also come out and said that he thinks Red will be better on good ground - ITV presenter asked him Is soft ground key to him ? Ellison " No, He has won on good ground , i think he will be better on good ground because he is not short of speed you know , as long as its not tacky because he is such a lovely mover, but he can go on heavy ". Im not totally convinced on the suitability of ground - but as i say i think he has progressed into a perfect Gold Cup horse
2.Is there a chance that he could actually stay the trip better than Might Bite and Sizing John , and does he have the class to match them and some of the other leading fancies ?
"Class" is talked about too much imo when it comes to the Gold Cup - if you just look at the last 10-15 years of the Gold Cup there are several horses that have been placed in the race that most would have identified as horses as more of a National Type and lacked class. I actually think that Definitly Red is not only better than that pigeon hole that many would put him into , i actually believe that he progressed into a high class animal whose 3m2f+ performances will actually exceed past horses who many would believe to be classier horses.
I dont think last years Gold Cup was that impressive - Minella Rocco got within 2 lengths of Sizing John on good ground

I’m a fan of the horse Rozel and being a Northerner myself, would love to see him win.
My worry is that, although I’m sure Ellison is right and that he will go on good ground, I think heavy ground inconveniences other horses more. So they are notably better on decent ground, whereas this fella may not be.
I agree that he is overlooked and in an open year certainly has the class to be in the hunt for a place, along with probably half a dozen others. He will be in my forecast/tricast combination for sure.

Sizing John has only run one bad race (Lexus) since up in trip; he won 3 Gold Cups, and is underrated, I believe. Might Bite could still be improving, and if running to his RSA form he'd have an excellent chance of beating the field, I think.
Definitely Red looked good in his last win, but the form still needs convincing. But the Lexus, I cannot give much credence to.

Despite being a massive Might Bite fan (to claify I mean in terms of this year's GC), I have to have a back up.
Decided upon Road to Respect, that despite not respecting his Lexus win at the time. He's been solid this year to be fair and has course form in the bag, which is always valuable.
Whether he'll stay the extra two I don't know and I'm not really that fussed as I'm sure Might Bite will have won by several furlongs (this is a joke) before it becomes an issue. However think he's one to have inside and has disappeared off the radar a bit. Happy with 10/1 NRNB.

Native River has now proved his well being and is bang there in the Gold Cup picture.Has to have a fair chance and is a fair price at 13/2 imo.

Get where you are coming from and agree about the layoff being super beneficial BUT that "beaten horses" is a tough stat to ignore isn't it. And for that reason I have gone for three - Might Bite, Sizing John and Bacchasson as my wild card.
Yeah it is a powerful stat Billy, but for me it's balancing that stat vs he is more than double the price he was last year and looked just as good yesterday. He is Mr Consistent, so you know you'll get a really good run for your money. I'm hoping he can run the stamina out of Might Bite, of who I still have my stamina doubts about.
I love Sizing John, but after his last run and the amount of tough racing he's had in a short space of time is a big worry for me. Might Bite's King George did nothing for me personally, and the quirks he has would push me to the likes of Native River or Road to Respect.

Cant be having Native River over Might Bite, at all. Already neck deep Bite but taken a duck under. Remember all the raving about Bristol De Mai on one run and there's Native's bounce factor to consider, too. Previously got 80/1 Bite 2017 RSA, King George, Gold Cup treble and King George/Gold Cup double a few times. Went in again at 4/1 coz still think way too big, with Sizing John much to prove after flopping and lacking a run now

I think we can safely say Blaklion will not be running in Gold Cup after today. Will need 2-3 weeks rest after that.
Pretty sure he said they'd have to think about the GC, if he hosed up today.
I would be very nervous about any of the horses that finished their race at Haydock yesterday getting over it this season! Brutal conditions. The same thing could explain why Bristol de Mai has been poor since he won there earlier in the year.
agree blacklion barely got over the last and it looked as though my granny woulda beat him on the run in , the george horse after looking a likely winner stopped as if shot .

Barring a fall or interference I not only believe that he can win this Gold Cup but i think he can win it with reasonable ease- He simply stays better and has the speed to match any of them - His jumping is also excellent whereas i believe that the rest have tons of issues in one or more of these departments

You could be right about Definitely Red but what has he beaten? Cloudy Dream was comprehensively beaten by 1st time out Native River (NR), and American had always flattered to deceive - travelled well but nothing at the business end. I think DR has many lbs to find on the others eg NR, MB, SJ and Our Duke.

I'm very happy with Djakadam if it is really soft/heavy - in fact having looked at the weather forecasts (for what little they are worth) I have gone in again at 36 this morning. He'll probably go for the Ryanair now.

I never fancied Sizing John. If the track doesn't get too soft I really like Might Bite. But with the forecast rain Total Recall @ 16/1 E/W (1/4 odds) comes into the reckoning IMHO...........
I have no doubt Mite Bite is better suited to the Old course which of course the the RSA is run over. The Gold Cup over the new course will be tougher for him. I think he can overcome this but if the ground is very soft or heavy it might be a bridge too far as in my eyes the King George highlighted very soft ground was far from ideal. So rain dependent and the weather forecast is suggesting it will chuck down on Sun and Wed and this will determine if he goes off as a 7/4 or a 4/1 chance.

Might Bite sat 2nd in the king george for at least the first half of the race. He's very unlikely to try and make all though i'm sure he'll be prominent.
It won't be surprising if he leads, but he also won't go stupid to get the lead. Will happily sit in behind and get into a rhythm.
He'll tack along if necessary and take it up some distance out if needs be (similar to the King George) to try and demoralise those trying to hang on to his coattail; from 3 out backers would be hoping he'd sustain the pace and last out the trip. And so would his jockey and Hendo.

Outstayed by Native River an out and out stayer; surely the will atone in the King George.
Delighted for Native River; he's never had the credit he deserved but he will now! He's won a Hennessy, a Welsh National off top weight and now a Gold Cup. The race panned out exactly as I thought it would, apart from Our Duke disappointing (maybe the Presenting Percy race took more out of him that it did Percy).
To win a Gold Cup from the front in that ground, galloping them into submission is some acheivement - it was Denman-esque.

Definitely Budd. Never really been a Might Bite fan myself but he ran an absolute blinder.
virtual 2 horse race after a circuit the 2 of them had everything cooked a long way out ,winner the stronger stayer in the conditions, on good ground may have been a different story but take nothing away from the winner very game !
Great race with two horses and jockeys that never put a foot wrong. The ground was the deciding factor and on better going Might Bite would have won imo - he went up massively in my estimation today. Only just noticed that Might Bite is older - just assumed he was the younger horse. He'll be 10 next year so surely his last chance.
Similar to Denman and Kauto Star - two totally different animals with different requirements but a great rivalry. Presumably Tizzard will do the same campaign next year and MB will go for the King George. Road To Respect ran well considering the trip and ground were against him - if they aimed at the KG he could be a good rival for MB but presumably he'll stay in Ireland.
Hopefully they both get there in the same form next year and if Davy Russell on Presenting Percy can sit a few lengths off them and gradually creep into it it could be a belter.

Still think he will be very vulnerable from the second last. He needs to be travelling very easily in the lead by then to have any chance. Don't forget that he almost threw away the RSA up that same hill over a furlong less. If it was 3 miles on a flat track I would never rule him out but it isn't.

I cannot have him at all really after watching him this season,but every horse has a price,and i have stuck him in an e/w multiple,and if conditions on the day are in his favour and the vibes are good,i will look at his price.

If MB can run up o his Gold Cup form of last season and the forecast is inaccurate (30m this wednesday and another 20mm next tues/wed) he could be a thorn to all. At this price he's a trade (in-running), I think, if one is that way inclined.
