Yeah, she'd be favourite surely? VVM to the mares?

AP 2/1 fav for CH (PP)
By:
Willie talking of supplementing her for the CH, but he needs to speak to RR first.
Yeah, agree she'd be fav for the CH. |
By:
^^^ That was talking to G O'brien on ATR by the way
By:
Unreal! Would she deserve to be the fav for the race as in champion hurdle? Bookies must be loving this today as about 100m worth a antepost bets would bite the dust or already have!
By:
Wouldn't fancy AP for the CH personally, looking forward to MTOY's at the weekend now but for CH purposes he as well as AF and AP would need something in there making the pace as this could end up being a crawl now.
By:
she'd be my fav what a shame :(
By:
Out to 10/3 for the mares hurdle, could be a lot of betting slips in the bin out with the champion hurdle..!!!
By:
Hang on a minute. I fully understand how and why people would have her as favourite for the Champion but doesn't that say it all? Wouldn't run her against Hurricane Fly. Wouldn't run her last season. Would have been a strong second favourite in this years race. Yet not even entered. Suddenly they are scrambling around like crack addicts frantically searching down the back of the sofa for a few quid. What a complete and utter shambles.
By:
As if all the accas hadn't had enough of a hammering with faugheen being out - if AP goes CH then those that did 5x 4-timers and a 5-timer will be truly stuffed.
A great day to be a bookie, no doubt. |
By:
Couldn't have put it any better EO, shows a lack of respect to the other owners too if you ask me!
By:
Good post EO, searching down the back of the sofa, beautifully put

It wouldn't suit my pocket but it is entirely feasible that AP will have a better chance in the CH than the WH. They will almost certainly be going for it.
By:
Time for the mighty Sempre Medici to step up lol... Kidding obviously but I agree AP has been diverted from the CH for years, it's sad that it's took an injury to there stable star for them to consider her for the CH...

Extending this. Imagine you're Graham Wylie. You could buy and sell Ricci's wealth without losing sweat. You seem a complete gentleman who has always seemed to conduct yourself with decency. You don't mess people around including punters. You finally get a horse which seems capable of winning the Champion. You're happy to take your chances against the big daddy.
Then you wait and suddenly from out of nowhere as the champ goes down and your hopes are raised your own trainer wants to parachute someone else's horse into the race despite it not being entered and never having run in the race so as to avoid other favoured horses previously. Well Mr Wylie you may be a gent but you need to grow a pair. Let Mullins get on with stroking Ricci's ego, move your horses elsewhere and instead of taking shiit go to war and smack these suckers where it hurts. In their egos. |

Twitter Campaign to put the Champion Hurdle back to 1st May so The Machine can run #thislotaren'tuptoit
By:
Just to clarify so as not to be accused of pocket talking I've neither backed Annie for another race or anything in the Champion.
By:
Should they be allowed to supplement in such a circumstance?
Not pocket talking as my a/p on the Champion Hurdle was Peace & Co and from what it's shown so far this season I've done my dough anyway, but they could easily have entered her in this from the outset and just said that it was an insurance in case anything were to happen to Faugheen. At least people would have been able to see the entry and be able to make their own decision on whether to play or not. Instead, they chose to enter her in two other Grade 1's and not even mentioning the CH having avoided it like the plague in the last couple of seasons. Isn't the supplementary stage more for horses who show a high level of improvement through the season and deserve a crack at the big one rather than being lumbered with a massive weight in a handicap? |

^^ Good point made by Shockster and now made by Arsee
By:
Arsene, sorry :(

Supplementing horses this close to the event should be banned anyway.
How can you have faith in ante post if someone can be added at the last minute. Vautor or douvan would probably win the champion hurdle if they were now suddenly rerouted, not that they would be. But you bet knowing what the entries are. |
By:
I have not backed Annie for anything and wish her well in either the Mares or the World Hurdle where she has an entry and good luck should she win either race, but I will be appalled should she win the champion. This is not flat racing where they enter as yearlings for a 3 year old race and massive improvement compared to pedigree can be seen.
Mullins and Ricci chose not to enter her and should not now be allowed to muscle in a replacement for Faugheen just because they can and have the finacial clout to do so without breaking sweat. BHA change the rules. It makes the sport a laughing stock IMHO. |

Stand by for UDS for CH and Vautour CC

So people are unhappy because WPM didn't enter AP in the CH when the same owner had the MACHINE in it @ 1/3 fav? I was all for her running in the '14 CH but to say WPM is now somehow disrespecting other owners by supplementing her in this years is utter BS. It's not his fault the rules allow him to do this. Owners pay him to do a job and if the shoe was on the other foot, and Wylie owned AP, you can be damn sure he'd enter her too without regard for his competitors. Horse racing is a ruthless game.
Seriously lads we all know the perils of AP and the rules around supplementing horses. Take it like a man or don't do it at all FFS. |

Timeline:
Last Thurs: AP entered for prep race at Punchestown today when previous indications were she would go straight to the Festival Mon: Graham Wylie tells Matt Chapman that Nicholls Canyon is almost certain to take his chance in the Champion Hurdle Today am: Faugheen is left in the Champion Hurdle - 5 others (admittedly probably no hopers in terms of winning) are taken out presumably at least partly on the basis they have no chance of beating Faugheen. Today pm: News breaks that Faugheen is out of Champion Hurdle literally as Annie Power is at the post for her prep run Mullins as per was absolute class in his post race interview but I can't buy into the idea that Rich Ricci is the punter's pal. |
By:
Just to be clear, I have no bets involving either horse or any other in Champion Hurdle - in fact from a punting perspective I hope they do supplement her because she is opposable but it's no wonder punters get suspicious.
By:
I don't think Mullins is doing anything wrong. The rules are wrong that allow this to happen.
By:
The rules are only wrong cause this scenario has arisen, they were always there
By:
Agree Decalec and now they need amending.
By:
Maybe,but that won't happen
By:
Id like to know the stats of a horse actually getting to the festival at start of year -off top of my head Id say 65% chance - Always seems to be the good ones that miss out although that maybe because they are more high profile and its reported. One thing I am sure about Ante Post Prices don't factor in injury as much as they should and never have.
By:
Wanting the supplement of horses banned as event nears because it means you have no faith in market is embarrassing. Ante-post betting is a risk, so if can't stomach the thought of injury or another horse being supplemented to your race don't do it, wait until the day.

Howdi
A forumite did some analysis of this a couple of years back and I think they concluded that 3 out of 10 don't make it, so your estimate wasn't far off. A lot of the absentees are known early however and the closer to the meeting, the fewer (hopefuly) are added to the list. |
By:
Again I have no bet in the market. What I'm wondering is what happens to the Annie Power bets which were struck before the original declarations were made. I assume she was settled as a loser. What happens if she wins?

some interesting quotes from Mullins in this piece by Chris Cook
http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/feb/17/faugheen-ruled-out-champion-hurdle-injury-cheltenham-festival I particularly like: ' I'd rather run her in the Champion Hurdle than the World Hurdle' - which explains why she is entered in the World but not the Champion (not!) ![]() |
By:
The rules are there for all to see and of course any owner should be allowed to avail of that route. Also I smile to myself when key-board warriors on an anonymous forum tell multi-millionaires to grow a pair.
By:
DHB Annie Power has been re-instated in the betting and previous bets have now been resurrected.
By:
As a few others have said I think it is beyond ridiculous that people are suggesting Annie Power shouldn't be allowed to be supplemented at this stage. The race will be much richer for having her there, and, along with providing people with the option to run a sudden improver, I'd say the supplementary rules are there for situations just like this.

Am I missing something yesterday AP was evens to beat a bunch of poor mares and today she's 2/1 to win a champion hurdle.
