Ok as you all know i am sh!te at starting new threads but what are people's views on why Nichols is running this horse in this race tomorrow?

Surely if he was looking at say the Fred Winter he wouldn't be pitching him in against P&CConfused

I think he might have a squeak tomorrow. At 7-8/1 small stakes only, tomorrow is possibly a fact finding mission, given hes on 139 surely if he finishes too close to P&C the handicap is out of the question. It's certainly intrigued me.

Not sure STS seems a strange move by trainer, good chance could ruin his mark for the future.
Certainly wouldnt be backing it.

One that may have been overlooked I think. He ran with respect at Ascot fighting all the way up the run in and considering it was not only his first run of the season but his first run in the UK, thought he made a good impression. Made sure I scribbled him down as one to keep an eye on.

Not sure Nicholls is aiming him at a festival handicap, reckon it's a Triumph trial.

Not sure slog in heavy ground against older horses would be way to go imo.

As per my post on the Triumph thread earlier, I think it suggests they think the horse is pretty decent. Certainly a Graded type rather than a Fred Winter type. I backed him at 33/1 after his debut run as he's double the price of Gibralfaro and there wasn't much between them, but you would expect this fella to come on a lot more for that run. Topped up today at 33's again.

Backed this one for the triumph before his Ascot run based on the fact he beat Fixe Le Kap in France. Still the same odds now but wouldn't surprise me if he finished a good second to P&C tomorrow and shortened a bit. Bit of a strange placement for a juvenile but thought he looked very good on his debut

yeh read  somewhere before his debut they thought a lot of this one. a few winners in the week suggests the stable may be getting back into better form and this one can only improve Shirley!

going by what p.nicholls is saying on his timeform site on here he obviously thinks he has a bit of a squeak in this race ,gets a good weight allowance and with doubts about the rest may be worth a small  punt here and in the triumph at 33s ,fav gotta prove he is as good as last year and give the 4 yo plenty of weight . fav is too short imo  with what he has to prove ,may win but 1/2 .........

Good thread i was thinking the same thing.

Reading between the words of PN column i think this horse is triumph bound, if it was fred winter bound it would had been beaten at exeter by now.

I have also backed it for the triumph, hoping for a good run today.

Nice one :)

Took 33/1 Connetable coming up the home straight on Hills. Looks like being favourite now, was getting weight but chuffed with that.

Connetable and Footpads form from France ties in well after the 2 performances especially with Fixe Le Cap behind them in 4th. Looks great form now.

I think 10/1 is still fantastic value. Rayvin Black is a pretty solid yardstick and that form today looks top class in the context of a Triumph. And considering it was only his second run, you'd think he has plenty more improvement.

IG was as low as 5/2 after winning one race in Ireland against fellow four year olds. Go figure.

Agree, top yardstick and they are making out it was a false pace, it was all perfect for RB but he still couldnt win

12s on here and just took it. Footpad just won a Grade 1 in Ireland and Fixe Le Kap is current fav. French form is rock solid and RB is a solid yardstick particularly round his fav track. Dont know whats not to like about 12/1!!!!

Just thinking that Foyles. Could be peaking at the right time. Making me feel a right t1t for having a few bob on him not training a Festival winner at 5/2 Blush

Looks like Nicholls best chance of a winner.

Good performance today, but I wouldn't be getting too carried away personally.

Battled well but got plenty of weight and on heavy ground that is significant. Peace and Co. was awful.

Likely faster ground at Chelt.

Didn't look like a Triumph winner to me chaps.

Let's take money out of the equation and put things into perspective. Connetable was getting 10lbs from Rayvin Black (149) and Kayf Blanco (138). He beat them by a neck and three and a half lengths respectively working fairly hard to do so. Connetable is young and open to improvement but I'm not getting carried away with that form at all. If he'd done it on the bridle then fair enough but I'd say it was less impressive if you don't have any money involved and look at it literally.

No question he'd need to step up again to win a Triumph but he's came on from his first run which is all you could ask for really, but nothing in this division stands out. Ivanovich Gorbatov is a horse built totally on hype for starters and Gibralfaro looks of a similar standard to Connetable. None of the Juveniles looked very impressive at Cheltenham last weekend either so it's wide open.

Not really a race I like to get too involved in but potentially a good market to trade in.

Well IG was impressive lto, probably did not help when he beat a well thought of Mullins horse. So got people buzzing.

He's still interesting on decent ground for me.

Great shout STS.

Joined in at 16/1 for the Triumph - really like his attitude and he should be well suited to the demands of the new course at Cheltenham.

Going over it again i think people are underrating a run by a juvenile on its 2nd start in early February against a proven yardstick, often you get juveniles winning in ordinary novice races and people get excited.

Any other juveniles beaten a 149 rated horse this season in his own backyard ?
