what would be perfect is if they both ran and ruby chose the wrong one

Ah ok mate.
Fwiw I agree,a front run in the Arkle is right up his street. Think the same re UDS,and theres the problem,Walsh and Mullins want to win both races |

ruby looked hurt after that fall
By:
false alarm, he looks ok
By:
sonko hits the nail on the head....walsh is no purist, he doesn't care that vautour belongs in the arkle, he only cares about what permutation gives him the best chance of riding them all.
By:
Mullins said he will try keeping them apart if uds is as good as they think he is. Sigh, any other trainer would love to have an arkle horse like Vautour.
![]() |
By:
Can't help but say it, I'll be against UDS and won't be able to hide a smirk if he hits the wall turning in.
By:
Yep, Ruby cannot ride 2 horses in a race,so as he wants to ride all the best horses it stands to reason he will want them in different races, and why not?? He don't own them.
Its up to the trainer where the horses run though,or the owner if he chooses to have his say. |
By:
Blimey Duffy, that pocket talk by any chance?
By:
"We'll see what Un De Sceaux does now. If he does what he looks capable of we'll try and keep them divided," said the trainer. "I'll have to see what the other horses do also and talk to the owners.
"This fellow can go out in trip easily or go back. There is a lot of time between now and Cheltenham. "He came back here to get back on track. At this stage I wouldn't think he would run again (before Cheltenham)." So if UDS wins the Irish Arkle.. JLT it is |
By:
If Ruby did say that he'd doubt he'd stay further, presumably meaning 20f, then as the JLT is a stepping stone to the GC, Richie may take the view that that approach is redundant and break ranks and insist on the arkle....surely walsh should be dangling the GC carrot in fron of richies nose at this stage.
By:
No budd, I just want them punished.

By:
Despite the fact I will lose a small fortune if he doesn't run in the Arkle... If my life depended on him winning a race at the Festival, and he was mine, I think I would go for the JLT.
By:
May be wrong, but i thought ricci insisted champagne fever went to the supreme. Vautour has cheltenham experience, so uds must be on a different planet to anything we've ever seen before. Hand him the irish arkle now if a scintilating supreme hurdle winner is making way for a horse who hasn't been to the festival before.
By:
![]() Well I just want to see an exciting horse front run a top 2m race at the festival,if he wins he wins if he fails he fails,as long as I get to look forward to it and see it I will be happy....in fact much more than happy. I really hope he does smash then from the front, just imagine the build up to to next years Queen Mum!! And I aint a penny on him yet. |
By:
If UDS gives Gilgamboa the run around in the Irish Arkle, I think it's safe to say he's the real deal.
By:
I just hope that the mullins team don't end up with a live one in next year's Ryanair....somehow, Vautour V Balthazar King in the cross country race doesn't really do it for me.....either that or they get him a sex change on the NHS and stick him/her in the mares hurdle

Don't think it's ideal for Vautour's chances in either race that he will go straight to Chelts now. Would rather he had another run in mid Feb tbh.
By:
I tweeted ATR and asked them to put Ruby's interview on again. They said they'll put it on in a minute for those interested.
By:
Racing Post quote it as him saying 'i don't doubt he'll stay further'
By:
"I'd have no doubt he'd get further" - definitely said that
By:
He p1ssed up over 2 and a half over hurdles, and they are reportedly mentioning the Gold Cup in the future...think it clear what they think about his staying power.
By:
Walsh said...I'd have no doubt he'd get further.

oops..didn't see WC already said it

So everyone what now happens to Valsuer Lido and Don Poli? ![]() Good luck |
By:
Clarcam - Arkle
Valseur Lido - JLT Don Poli - RSA Wounded Warrior - 4 miler ... in my opinion, that is the Gigginstown first string entries for the festival barring injuries. They will of course have other runners in the race. |
By:
So the idea is to keep your Arkle runners divided but ok to have Vautour and Valsuer Lido in the JLT. Anyone who does ante post in the novice events is nuts.
By:
Antepost in Novice races is the only way to bet sj. Fancied horses go off crazy short on the day.
By:
Think it s madness now CV with that stable. It s all about shuffling the pack for whats best for the amount of wins in the stable and not the horse
By:
Yeh,but at least you know that. I got my fingers burnt last year with Felix Yonger and UDS.
Left his novices alone this season. |
By:
SJ the owners always have the final say anyway but you and many others on here forget that the more winners the stable has the more winners the owners have. Its simple really.
By:
It's not too hard tbf, you just need to think through about the stable and where the horses would be run. You know he wants to keep them apart and Ruby will want them kept apart too so he has a top ride in each race. Horses who could have their target races changed like Shaneshill & Vautour would be best backed to win any race at Cheltenham. Others are safer like UDS or Black Herculese
By:
Vautour and Valseur Lido have different owners so no problem running them both in the same race (also Gigginstown have their own jockey so it's not like Ruby has to choose).
Ricci want's his big guns kept apart which is fair enough. |
By:
Anyone moaning that Vautour might miss the Arkle should go back and read the OP - the market was telling you this before the start of the season.

So if UDS gets beat in his next race, what happens then? It s madness. Do we change our mind again like last year with Felix Youger or what about when Vautour beat Western Boy and Mullins said afterwards "He's probably a Neptune horse" Its madness |
By:
No run before the festival would be another shocking preparation from Mullins for one of his chasers.
