When you get up in the morning make some breakfast it helps the mind think quicker, you are more alert and decision making becomes much easier,as for training racehorses leave that to those that are qualified to do so

Exactly decalec. Don't come on moaning he should go here or go there, its your pocket talking, u pay your money u take your chance, Willie milullin has forgot more than anyone on this forum knows about horse racing. I doubt he trying to keep his owners happy, if Willie thinks a certain horse has a better chance to win a different race I for one wouldn't slate him, he gets it right good 99% of the time, because if he didn't he wouldn't have the ammunition he has now

Trouble is all his form this season backs the 2m option.
That's the point, yes bets make you want something,of course, but at least that is backed up by form. Those who aint backed him for the Arkle have nothing but a beating over 2and a half, and some form in the Neptune novice hurdle!! Decalec,Mck30wn Since when have those that pay the bills not had a say in where their horse runs??????? |
By:
I'd rather have Walsh on in the JLT than Townend on in the Arkle.
By:
Am not saying they don't have a say but have I seen Wylie come out and state arkle??? Yes his best form is over 2 mile because that's were they have run him but surely Willie Mullins knows more than u regards the horses best chance?? If that's not the case then I recommend u set up your own yard and train horses
By:
Disagree with that. You should always form your own opinion on a horse, even if it differs from the trainers. They're not always right, and in the case of Mullins it's more to do with having a good chance in every race. He's more likely to pick the JLT for Felix because he has Champagne Fever to the Arkle, not because he feels its his best distance.

By:
Thankyou AC.
it does seem my point is not sinking in. |
By:
i really hate it when people come out with the "I recommend u set up your own yard and train horses" line. of coure willie is one of the best trainers ever, doesnt mean he cant get it wrong sometimes.
By:
The thing with this tread is its all pocket talkers, u know what mullins is like, take a horse of his to win any race and sit back hoping it turns up to the festival instead of coming on here moaning about where it should go it makes no sense because u have no input into the destination of the horse

nearly all discussions in horse racing has some pocket talk in one way or another. Ive had very little on FY for the arkle, it would be worse for me if CF didnt go arkle actually with the stupid doubles and trebles ive done with him in it!! If willie, ruby and the owners think JLT is best for FY then as you say i cant complain! I think he can definately win the JLT, but hed also have a major chance in the arkle i reckon.
By:
Course it does.
Someone starts a thread about a horse they fancy or have backed, others come on and agree or disagree, and so it starts....the pocket talking,we all do it to a certain degree. Ive backed FY so I want him in the Arkle and state my case for that, what on earth is wrong there?? His form in the book does not make me look like a pocket talking biased sore loser imo,so my case has credence. If at the end of the day,a trainer says a horse has more chance in another race and the form imo does not back that up,then why not say you disagree?? If you have something to back you up(form eg) other than the fact you have money involved,i don't see that as simple as pocket talk. If someone says "oh that's mullins way,he wants to win every race and so does his jockey" is that fair on an owner that WANTS his horse in a different race?? I don't think so. I don't know what Wylie has said, and if he agrees with Mullins then fine...im just saying if he don't and he wants his horse in the Arkle, then he should say so,see what Mullins says, and then act as he sees fit. |
By:
the bit ive had on felix is nrfb so hardly pocket talking, I only made my mind up on the bet because mullie said he was his arkle horse, the way mullie keeps changing his mind about this race, I don,t think even he knows what his best chance is, so for the good of the sport let them both take their chance...
By:
Everyone pocket talks to a certain degree, they obviously think that cf will win the arkle, and before any says they didn't even know if cf was gonna run the arkle,it has always been the plan, the morriaty race last week was just a smokescreen !
By:
the morriaty race last week was just a smokescreen
ive heard it all now, men in white coats time ![]() |
By:
Do you honestly think cf was gonna run in it,2 mile 5 on heavy ground, why does ruby want to ride it in the arkle, why does he want to ride fy in the jlt, because that's the best chance the stable has got to win both,I would rather listen to someone who has had more winners at Cheltenham than anyone rather than an idiot like you !
By:
no significant financial interest in the race but i mind mullins sayin he was an arkle horse, might sound stupid but did the interviewer ask does that mean its the target cant remember if aul willie clarified any further???
By:
Same as that alleged,16/1 nrfb,so not the end of the world, just find another horse to back on the day....should not be difficult.
Could well top up on my main hope Trifolium, been thinking along them lines. Would be nice to have FY running as well, bur antepost we aint gonna get em all right!! Just genuinely feel hes earned the right to run and has a real good chance in the Arkle if the grounds decent enough. |

Buddeliea wrote Trouble is all his form this season backs the 2m option.
That's the point, yes bets make you want something,of course, but at least that is backed up by form. Those who aint backed him for the Arkle have nothing but a beating over 2and a half, and some form in the Neptune novice hurdle!! This could be easily countered by saying his best hurdles form is over two and a half and anyone fancying his Arkle chances is pinning their hopes on a beating of Defy Logic at Punchestown and a race where Trifolium ran well below form having gone way too fast... And those who've backed him for the Jewson have a super run over 2m 5f at the course and a staying on 2nd over 2m 3f this season ![]() You can spin the form to suit both arguments. Imo, he has very strong form from two miles to two miles five, and is a leading player in either race. If you had two excellent novices who could both easily go over any trip from two to two and a half miles surely you'd want to keep them apart given there are two races in this bracket. |
By:
because that's the best chance the stable has got to win both
cuf, if you were Wylie, and you wanted FY in the Arkle, would you be happy with that from your trainer??? |
By:
anyone got the remarks from mullie post race about ballycasey being the second string to shut up cufcno1
By:
Its always going to happen though Bud. Any owner is faced with this, and to some degree, you just have to accept it. The trainer will tell you that it makes sense as there isnt much between the two and it would be crazy to be beaten by a stable mate. I remember when we had Catch Me and I was keen on him going for the Supreme. EoG had always been adamant that the Neptune was the right race, and I always felt it was because he had Clopf for the Supreme and wanted a chance in each. But he said there was nothing between them and we didnt want to take him on. They sell it to you very well.
As it happens, Ebizayan won a poor Supreme, we were 3rd in a red hot Neptune, not quite getting home, and to this day, I still regret it as I think we could have won that Supreme ![]() So as it happens, we should have been firmer, but its very hard not be guided by your trainer. If WPM tells Wylie he doesnt think FY can beat CF, what can he do? |
By:
Mullins did say Ballycasey was a good 2nd string for the 2m 5f last Sunday.Fenton said all along the plan was the supreme. Now hes changed his mind & going neptune. What Im saying is they all come out with crap
By:
Ballycasey put up an admirable display as deputy for Champagne Fever to take the Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown
Mullins said: "He's not bad for a first reserve. Mullins also had an update on Champagne Fever, who he said was "fine" and would probably go straight to the Cheltenham Festival next, although he decline to specify a target is the smoke clearing yet cufcno1 ![]() |
By:
unless wylie has some overwhelming yearning for the arkle and likewise richy rich why would you run them against each other surely you keep them apart both horses have a decent chance in which ever race they run. The best at the time goes arkle im thinkin that is CF , the way i see it and if they both turn up at cheltenham if FY goes Arkle avoid CF in the JLT , JUST A Thought, safe to wait to nearer the day dont think you will lose out to much pricewise now
By:
Yep, I totally see your point mate, and as an owner respect what you say.
Its just this thing about wanting to win both races that gets me.Yes,they want to win both, I get that, but if the owner really wants his horse in the Arkle, then imo he should be allowed that...it is his horse!! What can he do?? What he wants really as long as hes willing to go with the consequences!! It just depends how strongly he feels I guess. |
By:
Thing is though Moat, imo the formbook has FY in front of CF,and that's basically been my argument all along.
Should FY go Arkle and CF jlt, does that give them less chance of winning both races??....no imo. CF has winning chase form over 2 and a half,FY has winning chase form over 2m. Just saying!! |
By:
I agree Bud, the owner should always get what they want. But if there is a clear case for both races, which there is here, its easy to be swayed! Us lot on here cant even agree which race would be best! In most cases the trainer will be cute enough to get what he wants.
By:
Yeh,and none cuter than Mullins it seems!!
Just to add, I am not that way inclined ![]() |
By:
Respect your opinion buddeliea i tend to go with my gut when it comes to this race , good race for me and im a Champagne fella if he turns up , If i was an owner trust me if i had a horse with a chance in the arkle id be sayin run it there even if my trainer said JLT is the best Chance, love this race, the holy trinity of day one, dont mess with that Cheltenhan.Brownes Gazette, Bobs Line and Cima the Mare did me , but if your gonna get beat get beat by a star

By:
this meeting is the pinnacle of the sport we love, and I want to see the best horses race against each other, it really is that simple.....
By:
Budd you keep saying "if the owner wants to go for the Arkle ......." I keep have said a few times that if the owner wants to run FY in the Arkle then he will run in the Arkle. We have never heard Wylie say he wants to run him in the Arkle. If I owned a horse and the trainer told me it had a better chance of winning the JLT then I would run him in it and so would 98% of owners. There seems to be a little bit of anti WM on some of the threads on here. He has about 20 novice hurdlers which could do themselves justice in the novice races and you have people complaining because he doesnt tell us which races they will run in. Do we know where Cue Card, Al ferof, First Lieutenant The Liquidator and/or scores of other horses will run. We dont but I dont hear the same complaints. A few weeks back someone even said re FY "its a pity someone else doesent train him" - I knew I had heard everything when I read that.
By:
Champagne fever wasn't right to run in the Morriaty but can run a week later, they will have been planning to run ballycasey in that race all along so it was hardly a reserve,cf was never going to run in that race on heavy ground ! Graham wylie is a millionaire who will get to see his horse run in whatever race he wants, but if Mullins has told him to go for the jlt then he will probably listen to his trainer, who ain't bad by the way
By:
Exactly arklearkle, people.want the best of everything. The reason Mullins has so many good horses is because he is head and shoulders above every1 else in Ireland as a trainer, I don't have solid facts but could any of these "if I was an owner" brigade tell me.a horse that has left Mullins yard and improved?? If Felix younger isn't the beat 2 mile novice chaser in Mullins yard what chance does he have in the arkle? Am not saying he isn't but surely Mullins Doesnt think he is or he would be going arkle? Isnt that how this game works?
Best 2 mile novice chaser go arkle Best 2 mile novice hurdlers go supreme... Etc? With all this whining on about he should be going Here or there or if I was the owner sound a lot of sour grapes to me lads... All the best for the festival |
By:
Djakadam will be going for the jlt,so ricci will run c fever in arkle.Ruby said earlier in the year that felix yonger is a grade one horse.Well all his form is over 2m on ok ground.Forget that neptune run,he was beaten a distance. That doesnt come close to his chase form.Who cares if Ruby doesnt ride Felix,I certainly dont.
As for mullins novice hurdlers. He has 2 picked out for the supreme, wicklow brave & vautour.Different owners & no problem running against each other.Hopefully felix gets the chance we all want to see. |
By:
Hey McKeown Mullins aint a God by the way , head and shoulders , think your takin it a bit far give the same horses to a few other trainers here in ireland and id say if they didnt do much better they wouldnt be far off, if i had a good horse id stay clear of mullins stable not because he aint top class , id be puntin it and if you tell me id get the same prices if he were with mullins you are away with the fairies mate
![]() |
By:
An 11 length beating of Monksland doesn't come close to his chase form?
By:
He ain't a God.but he gets winners no matter where he sends them! All the big festivals he comes away with a fair share of winners, aintree, Cheltenham, punchestown, leapordstown at Xmas... Winning machine mate and he has the best jockey in the land riding for him, so if u had a half decent animal challenging for major honour in a different stable I'd be pretty sure Mullins has 1 better :-) if not he will go get one in France the following year!
By:
I have kept well clear of the Mullins yard as I think there is just too many horses. The best will always get the best attention, and the biggest owners will always get priority (rightly so), so I have always preferred a smaller yard.
